You must be crazy. You are removing a completer and creating a giant that can bully "users, webmasters and Advertisers" into high costs.

This would be a bad deal for everyone except Microsoft and the Yahoo shareholders.

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

This is a great news for users, webmasters and Advertisers (but not for Google)
The WWW will be surely more competitive again....
The search will get better...
http://www.Find1234.com

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

I suspect the answer is a combination of both companies services. Yahoo have been doing a lot of innovating recently and I can see microsoft taking advantage of that.

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

Damn Wordpress ate my comment.

This merger happens right after Microsoft was complaining about Google's acquisition of DoubleClick. Typical MS pot calling kettle black.

Google is not going to lose market share over this. If Yahoo is rebranded as an MS product, it will only help google.

So I guess that means all their assets such as flickr and Delicious are now belong to Microsoft.

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

My thoughts exactly!

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

So many questions:

Live search or Yahoo search?
Live messenger or Yahoo messenger?
Live spaces , Yahoo 360 or Facebook???
MSN Dating (Match) or Yahoo personal?
MSN advertising platform or Yahoo advertising platform?
.net or java?
Live ID or Open ID?

...

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

NO way! MSN hasn't been good since 1995. this sounds like MS is more woried about Google and wants to cover its butt.

funny how there is no mention of how this will be good for the users. it great that a bunch of rich guys get even richer but that isn't going to make me want to use hotmail over yahoo.

some one point out on engadget that (quoting)

"Today, the market is increasingly dominated by one player who is consolidating its dominance through acquisition...."

So, instead, they want to dominate by consolidating through acquisition. Isn't that what they are fighting against!

Hello Kettle, I'm Pot.

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

I can't see a bad future, again a monopoly. Please Yahoo can be better, I don't want more advertising like hotmail banners and space limitated or selling us it, if microsoft take yahoo, google can be the winner, cause microsoft don't let to use software libre, google won with free applications for desktop. Microsoft... go to the kitchen!

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

This deal makes a ton of sense. The technological synergies are a lot greater than some folks realize, specifically in areas like structured search and search/BI integration that FAST brings into the mix.

CAM

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

Oh noes! I'd forgotten about this. Heh.

I would like to see a serious competitor to Google, and I think Yahoo! could do this with more money thrown at it - Microsoft could be the people to provide this.

I wouldn't like to see a Yahoo! rebrand or for any of it's services to be spoilt by Micrsoft - but if it were a case of ownership, cash inflow, revenue - I'd be quite happy.

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

What did you expect when the company announced 1,000 layoffs and the CEO had to resign.

Balmer seized the perfect opportunity to get in

.

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

WHOLLY CRAP!

Re: HUGE: Microsoft Wants To Acquire Yahoo For $44.6 Billion

Well it was only a matter of when not if.
