I would like to see a serious competitor to Google, and I think Yahoo! could do this with more money thrown at it - Microsoft could be the people to provide this.
I wouldn't like to see a Yahoo! rebrand or for any of it's services to be spoilt by Micrsoft - but if it were a case of ownership, cash inflow, revenue - I'd be quite happy.

funny how there is no mention of how this will be good for the users. it great that a bunch of rich guys get even richer but that isn't going to make me want to use hotmail over yahoo.
some one point out on engadget that (quoting)
"Today, the market is increasingly dominated by one player who is consolidating its dominance through acquisition...."
So, instead, they want to dominate by consolidating through acquisition. Isn't that what they are fighting against!
Hello Kettle, I'm Pot.
Live search or Yahoo search?
Live messenger or Yahoo messenger?
Live spaces , Yahoo 360 or Facebook???
MSN Dating (Match) or Yahoo personal?
MSN advertising platform or Yahoo advertising platform?
.net or java?
Live ID or Open ID?
...
This merger happens right after Microsoft was complaining about Google's acquisition of DoubleClick. Typical MS pot calling kettle black.
Google is not going to lose market share over this. If Yahoo is rebranded as an MS product, it will only help google.
So I guess that means all their assets such as flickr and Delicious are now belong to Microsoft.
The WWW will be surely more competitive again....
The search will get better...

This would be a bad deal for everyone except Microsoft and the Yahoo shareholders.
I'm doing a project on this merger and have a few questions for somebody who has been following and understands this merger. If you're willing to help, please let me know!
Thank you.
