I am one of those that is blessed with the iPhone. Haha. I can't imagine having to use a web based Twitter app, because of all the great options I have now. I use Twitterfon to death on my iPhone and even tweet from the phone more than I do from the computer.

I am a Spinvox user and a HUGE fan, but I have yet to try text to tweet. I need to give it a shot though. Oregon (where I reside) is thinking of going to non-mobile phone/while driving law soon, so I better get used to it.

Hugh - there is also Tweetie that the iPhone just came out with. I like the features of being able to automatically re-tweet posts, forward, and manage several accounts in one interface.

Um, why wouldn't I just send a text message to groups from the contacts list of my cell phone?

Why do I need Twitter to tell friends A, B and C that I'm "Enjoying a beautiful day at the ballpark"?

You can also do voice updates with dial2do.com. I've been using it for a few weeks and it seems to be more accurate than spinvox.

Mark, check out Twitterfon or Tweetie for iPhone. Both are packed full of features and both have Retweet ability.

Also, check out Pixelpipe for sending pics from iPhone to twitter. It allows you to send pics to any social network or photo sight. Very flexible and Very slick!

I love twitter, just started to using it 2 wk ago. I don't have an iPhone (yet, at least), so I'll stick with my computer to check my twitter. However, I'm using TweetDeck, a desktop application. Have u ever heard of it? works pretty good for me.
I'll definitely try out tweetie when I got my iPhone :) it's gonna be a great addition to my 7 twitter applications that I posted in my blog.

there's a ton of more interesting mobile clients than listed here... although this is a nice little starter - there's a ton for iPhone, and then there's android (teitdroid), then many GPS enabled apps like GPS Twitter (via WHERE) and many more

With so many Twitter clients ... I wonder what percentage of Twitter users actually use the "native" Twitter web interface ... 50%? 75%? ... thanks for the great information!

    Matt,

Awesome list for the non iPhone users. Personally, I love Twitterfon, almost to the exclusion of everything else...unless I happen to be at my desktop & use Twitterfox.

This is a great list of apps/sites for the browser based user; but perhaps you can add to the list with the best iPhone/BB apps? Perhaps also those clients like Brightkite that have the location/geo photo tag/photo function?

    Thanks again!

I'm a bit surprised that there's no mention in the entire article, or in the comments, that you can tweet by sending a text message directly from your phone, without needing to launch a separate browser application. Granted, you can't do that while driving—but then, you can't use the apps listed in the first half of the article while driving either.

All you have to do is send a text to 40404 from the phone number you've registered with your Twitter account. (Of course, depending on your phone service plan, you may be charged for each text message you send.)

    Hi,

Thanks very much for a great review of mobile twitter clients. I'm glad @tweete was featured, and that you understood why it was designed to be lightweight from ground up.

    Thanks again :)

    Cheers,
    Ben

The SMS/Twitter gateway is only available in some countries, certainly not in the UK. Also for G1/Android users there's Twitroid which is a fine application and, of course, free.
