Mashable - The Social Media Guide: HOW TO: Use Social Media for Sharing Music

  • shotbeak · 7 months ago
I have made a service that makes it easier to share what you are listening to on last.fm without inundating Twitter with countless tweets. It's called Tweekly.fm and it sends a weekly tweet listing your top 3 artists. http://www.shotbeak.com/tweeklyfm

Thought it might be of interest.

I think the Dizzler powered Neuro Music Player is worth mentioning - especially since its free :o) It does provide an embed>able media search engine AND customizable media player for most social network profiles and a nifty desktop app...

    Great post!
Personally I enjoy using Firefox addon http://Headup.com to gain insights into peoples' musical tastes, and then http://last.fm or http://deezer.com to listen to music, and http://blip.fm to dedicate songs to friends : )

While it's great to share music, be mindful of spamming your social media streams with a ton of links! What you like may not be the same stuff I like, and I may just not be in the mood to listen to your tunes now!

Another approach to music discovery is 'social music recommendation' based on the psychological perception of music. The Music Patterns service (http://www.signalpatterns.com/music_survey) provides customized playlists based on the music that 'People Like You' actually listen to.

Using a psychology-based approach to music preferences, this method combines your individual preferences with identifying those that are your 'music personality.'

This new form of social music recommendation was developed from eyars of research in the area by best-selling author and researcher Dr. Dan Levitin and our team at Signal Patterns.

Don't forget amaze.fm. More like a radio station, but great place for exposure. And some terrestrial radio stations are playing their top song every week. http://amaze.fm/

Sharing music is a wonderful thing but I dont find my musical tastes are that insync with my friends tastes-just because they like something doesnt mean I will, I like DISCOVERY-thats why I built whotune.com, its an ideal platform for finding new artists. You can browse or search for artists or be more relaxed about it & just launch the online radio station-which sounds like a radio station not just an endless parade of song after song with no interaction of information. If you like an artist on the radio-click their clipart in the radio player & go visit their profile-find out about them, download or just listen! its pretty cool-plus it now has a LIVE performance platform-Jam Cam Global Stage so you can watch artists from all over the world perform, jam, record, write & create.. check it out! ;-) its all about the music!
