Great post, Jennifer. Posterous is simple yet keeps pleasantly surprising me as I discover more of its abilities. Looking forward to see how it continues to evolve its social interaction side.
  • Ricardo Bueno · 3 months ago
Ahh, Posterous has quickly become one of my new online networking apps to play with! I'm a fan of technologies that make it easier to do things and Posterous does just that.
  • Gus · 3 months ago
One of my favorite features of Posterous is the ability to send a post through email and have the ability to control which services it posts to.

For example, if I send an email to: friendfeed+flickr+twitter@posterous.com only those 3 services will receive my post. Or, if I don't want to post anywhere but to my posterous, I just email posterous@posterous.com.

Very nice and informative post indeed.
  • tuxme2 · 3 months ago
I may consider moving! Last time I tried it lacked many features so I went back to Tumblr and switched to self-hosted WordPress.

    Jennifer,
I'll check it out. Sounds very cool. I wonder what their revenue model is?

    Love Posterous...Nicely organized Jennifer!
  • sikku · 3 months ago
@Posterous is cool and superb.... It meets all that a blogging needs... Posting through email makes it outstanding....
  • perfy · 3 months ago
Be VERY careful with this. I just spammed the hell out of my twitter account by linking a few of these things together. I set up posterous to autopost to twitter, my wordpress blog and facebook. Then I made 2 posts with the iPhone app, and the result is about 16 posts of the 2 pictures over and over again every 10 or so minutes to my twitter.

Posterous has made my online life much easier. Following the tips above will make your life easier as well.

I've had nothing but positive experiences using Posterous. It works great!
  • Jason Cooper · 3 months ago
Why is posterous getting all of Tumblr's hype? Is it a west coast/east coast thing? YCombinator? If you are wondering what its upcoming social features are going to be, just look at Tumblr.

Cheers to you for sharing this excellent information Jennifer! Thank you.

I am sharing it forward. :)
  • judd6149 · 3 months ago
Just wait...this list will change very soon. The guys @posterous add new features each day.
  • M@tt · 3 months ago
I love Posterous and am a huge fan of how easy it is to update my Posterous blog.. all via email.

And there seems to be new functionality added every couple of weeks which I think is great. They are really on the ball when it comes to moving forward and enabling new technologies to be intergrated.

I have done up a guide - Posterous Guide to Dead Easy Blogging http://thesocialmediaguide.com.au/2009/07/17/po... which may be of benefit.

    Thanks
    Matt

Great post. Highly recommend it - posterous is fantastic.

I've tried both, Tumblr and Posterous. Seriously, while Posterous has more possibilities when it comes to 3rd party services (posting to Facebook, Twitter etc.), Tumblr's GUI is way nicer, it's got themes and a GREAT dashboard / twitter integration, the iPhone app is waaaaay better (as well as the bookmarklet) and it's just an all around better experience. Most of the really complicated mail features of Posterous aren't really useful / known to 99% of the userbase, and Tumblr's got all the features a normal user needs.
  • SusieBlackmon · 3 months ago
Holy cow. I fall in love with Posterous more every day. Thank you Jennifer.

when i did a google trends for posterous vs tumblr, it was the latter that was way ahead, any reasons why a posterous review instead of tumblr?

No need for a 'How To' on Tumblr as it's intuitive and easy-to-use... unlike Posterous.
  • Stu Carter · 3 months ago
Allows "track your feed" with feedburner, but does not allow RSS to feed the page. Newbies need to accept feeds from my other established sites. I don't use a newbie for my initial news source.
  • modemlooper · 3 months ago
    I like tumblr better

I love Posterous! It's been fun creating a psychology blog there, a much different space than my other spaces for my other main interest, photography. LOVE IT. :)

Another tip is to host on your own domain. (You mentioned it as a feature, but not listed in Tips and Tricks.)

Posterous doesn't mention it, but I discovered you can also use their instructions to host on a subdomain, which makes it perfect for building a companion to your main blog. I did that with http://mini.softwareas.com.

    Dear Beloved In The Lord,
From: Mrs Alice Idris Toyo Praise be to the name of God most high.I am theabove named person from Tunisia but now undergoing medical treatment.I was married to Dr.Idris Toyo who worked with Tunisia embassy in ABIDJAN for nine years, before he died in the year 2002. We were both married for eleven years without children. My husband died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days.

Before his death we were both Christians and since his death I decided not to re-marry. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of (11million dollar ) in cash, packaged in bundles into a metalic box. Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next Six months due to my cancer illness. Having known my condition and believing the doctor I have decided to donate this fund to avoid total loss to church, Less privilege, or better still a Christian individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein. I am interested in helping orphanages ,widows and propagating the Gospel and to ensure that the house of God is maintained.

Please do not fail to spread the funds across the globe. The Bible made us to understand that it is more blessed to give than to receive. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are fighting over the properties and I don't want my husband's hard earned money to be misused
by their greedy attitude. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an UNGODLY manner, hence the reason for taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death since I am a good christian. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. The bible says that the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace.

I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health,
and because of the presence of my husband's relatives around me always. I don't want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall issue a letter of authority to the security company submit you as my late husband foriegn business partner based on the agreement my late husband made with the security company that any foriegner I the wife submit his details to the security company as his foriegn business partner is whom the security company will release the trunk box to.
Please if you are interested to help me recieve this consignment in your country as my late husband's foreign business partner, kindly respond in swift to enable me contact the Security company and submit your name for the preparation of the shippment. I will also send you the deposit document the security company gave to my late husband on the day he deposited the trunk box. I want you to always pray for me because the lord is my shepherd. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian.

Whoever that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and truth.
Please always be prayerful all through your life.
Remain blessed in the name of the Lord.
    Yours in Christ,
    Mrs. Alice Idris Toyo.

If you are a fan of Dial2do as I am, you can use it to send posts to Posterous as well. Just add the post addresses you want to your email contacts. Then just say "email" and follow the prompts, telling it to send the mail to Posterous. That's it. Nothing could be easier, and everything you say is transcribed and a link will be posted so that others can hear your original message.

I love the way PicPosterous allows you to add pictures to a gallery. Is there anyway to do this; add more pictures to a published gallery (post) from e-mail?
  • Kyle4Jesus · 2 months ago
If the gallery is already published, I don't think there is currently a
way to add images. However, as with many things, I believe this feature
is on the way. If in doubt, send your question to help@posterous.com.
They answer rather quickly, and will probably confirm my thought on this
    feature.

It's only this recently that I am exposed to posterous. I find it very easy to add new post with just an email. It kinda compliments a lot of services just like what you have mentioned.

I will be exploring how I can push this further with its flexibility...

thanks all the time, These Christian louboutin shoes was one of fashion’s best-kept
secrets:means  Christian shoes has attracted a growing clientele for whom the fact that he is not a household name is all part of the appeal. “The minute we receive a delivery of his
Christian Louboutin , they sell out. Keeping up with the demand is becoming quite difficult.
