If it really is using Google Translate, I must question the name - it sounds like it's powered by Babelfish ( babelfish.altavista.net )

Sounds really cool but doesn't seem to work for me. I tried in both Safari and Firefox and I couldn't see the conversation. Nothing ever popped up to say I needed a new flash or Java plugin or anything. :(

Very cool app

Another twitter app i noticed launched this week is Tweet Translate (http://www.tweettranslate.com) which lets you automatically translate tweets and post direct to twitter... you can also save to archive which becomes a pretty cool feature to help learn languages / retweet etc etc

Very nice app showing off Google's translation technology and app engine. This is very similar to Meglobe's IM product as well, albeit without the crowd sourcing technology for improving translations.

The ironic thing is it says "powered by Google" at the bottom.

To echo what Tony said, we just want to get the technology out there for anyone to use. We are a church, but we create a lot technology that is useful both inside and outside the church.

I hope it is helpful in breaking down the language barrier and helping all of us connect even more easily with others around the world.

This functionality is there in other IM services using bots. Where you can invite a translation bot to your conversation. Google wave does this and Window live messenger already has this. But babelwith.me is open and innovative interface that makes it stand out.

Ben, thanks for the blog post about BabelWith.me.

Your suggestions are right on! The launch was moved up to offer free multilanguage communication with those in Iran, so we had to pass on some features that were important to us. Look for vanity URL's, embeddable chats and a few other things we have up our sleeve in the upcoming releases.

Created something similar on top of Twitter,
you can visualize real time real time twits on Google Earth and at the same time you can translate them to any language, using Google Earth API and Google Translation.

Thanks for this review!! And this is a wide open product for anyone to use for free. This prompt for this tool came from our interactions online and hoping to solve the language barriers, but it is for anyone to use regardless of faith, religion, or purpose.

And vanity urls and many updates are on the way soon. :)
