You touched on some very important points. It sure is a SUPERB time to be a Young Entrepreneur. Our community on http://www.YoungEntrepreneu... is growing at about 200-300 new Entrepreneurial Members per day so your statistics are very evident within the YE Platform.

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

Thanks Greg ... find me on twitter @davecoleman and I will keep you posted!

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

Thanks Greg. Between the technology resources available and the economy, you've got Gen Y entrepreneurs out of choice and out of necessity (the ones who can't get jobs!). The good news is, it's much cheaper to start your own venture if you know how to navigate all the web tools available. The web has knocked down so many entry barriers for those brave enough to go at it on their own. Like www.outright.com - it's free bookkeeping for self-employed- use the web as your CFO!

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

Excellent and well written. I like Gen-Y I do... I just find that most want the "rock star life" without the hard work. I don't mean you have to physically kill yourself but you have to be committed to your cause. Some may even go as far as to say they would die for their cause. That's a bit lame but, I think you get my point. I just wrote a piece discussing this very issue and how I have been finding it hard to blend in. I will admit I do see a lot of "Gen-Y is fundamentally under the impression that the world will be a better place if we grow together." Reminds me of my generation, we really thought we were going to make a change. I am glad to see we have.

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

This is great Greg! Makes me want to be a little younger :) But running SoundOps Mastering, and working with Gen-Y musicians every week, I get to be a part of it in a small way. It's true, they have more going for them than it may seem. Despite the criticism, I think there is always room to use our current tools in a new way to make very forward progress.

Keep teaching and inspiring dude!

- Will

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

Inspiring.

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

"Shattering the status quo" is such a cliche. With practically no barriers to entry, the internet is a great playground for college grads looking to leave their mark on the world. Exciting times we live in! I would love to talk to anyone about ideas for anything. =) Good luck to everyone!

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

We have a great group of Gen Yer's here in Toronto organized under the hashtag #GenYTO ... we get together once a month and I can assure you that everyone of them are shattering the status quo using social media both on their own and within corporations. It brings tools to the table that many Facebook and Myspace users have been looking for, yet not received. Knoyce is the social network for Generation Y to use. The advantages of Knoyce… http://bit.ly/OUINt

Re: How Gen-Y Startups Use Social Media to Shatter the Status Quo

Great piece.
