Where "these worlds" includes both virtual worlds and the corporeal world we live in day-to-day? I'd be hard pressed to defend an argument that the Habbo Hotel marketing strategy is markedly less child-exploitative than that of McDonalds or Disney.

Habbo Hotel was a great experience when it first came out, although pixels are starting to fall out of fashion in the Web 2.0 era. You're right, it is kind of cruel charging for credits when most of their users are youngsters.

weisheng - as I see it, "pixels" aren't fashionable, just a drawing/design technic... can web 2.0 ( now there's a fashionable term ) "release" some new format chat-worlds-wise? in interfaces, I believe it may ( AJAX, mainly). But habbo has been one of the most solid, beautifully crafted chat I've seen for some years, and these kind of products don't live of grey shades and soft tones, they're for kids...

I am not sure if any have you have been on Habbo lately but this is my opinion I have 4 children of various ages beween 5 and 12 and the 3 elder ones were using Habbo uk for quite a while, it got on my nerves with the inhouse argument as to who is on next so i decided to have a look myself i was disgusted with it and feel that children are at risk from peadophilles! as i myself aged 31 created a fake account to test and lied saying i was 12 I made contact with my younger brother on there (he lives a my parents home) and within seconds (he did not know it was me) he was asking for my msn addy and how i could get it past there filter which changes banned words to bobba i did give i to him and then he realised it was me making him think twice as to giving his own msn addy out!! andyway as a result of my findings and also my telephone bill i blocked access from my computer to habbo co uk and com about 3 months on I came downstairs to see my daughter quickly close the screen down I checked what she had been on and found she had got onto habbo.ca a canadian version I was quite annoyed at her but decided o ake a look myself as to who was on their because the time diffrence meant it was 4am in canada whilst searching around I was shocked and disgused to find they have a mcdonalds cafe on there not only complete with menu but also a chatbot that randomly says phrases like "you want fries with that" or "come and try our new sandwiches" now I am not sure about any of you reading this bu I think its disgracefull not only are children at risk of peadophilles but they are being advertised too ojn there....
needless to say i have now blocked every version of habbo and warned my friends and family who's children use the site.

For the concerned commenters:- there are a lot of older and more experienced players (including teams of voluntary users and professionally trained Moderators) who will be more than happy to step in and explain why X and Y are problemetic and talk about the risks associated with doing such things.

Moderators are online 24 hours, 7 days a week and can be alerted of bad behaviour via the Call For Help button from anywhere in the chat room. Players may also use this function to request assistance.

Habbo notably try hard to educate it's younger and new players about being safe online. If you explored the website and got involved in the regular activitiy you'd notice a lot of this.

In my opinion, Habbo is probably one of the safest and most reputable environments for kids online.

About the Public Room bots - these are there to make the experience seem 'real' in my opinion. You can chat with them to some level, and of course, they have certain phrases depending on the rooms environment.

A bot in a Cafe may say "Try our sandwhiches"; where as one in the Pool area will say "Take a dip!"

Wow. This is unbeliveable. I am a user of Habbo Hotel USA, and sure people say "AOMGZ PREDATORXZZZ!1!1!" and block it, but Habbo Hotel isn't the ONLY website with predators. There's lots of different versions, and each is user-friendly. This game is aimed at TEENS, not children. They target the age of 12-19, and you have to be a certain age to sign up. It is rediculous to charge money for
non-existent things, but the kids still buy them.

Emily, I would have to agree with you, that buying non-existant things is ridiculous, but please tell me what kid that is 12-14 in elementary school, that has had any financial advice. My paper route as a kid, invested for 8-9 years was my down payment on my first condo, my parents didn't let me touch that money, and I'm so happy, because I would have bought Sweet Tarts and Gummy Worms instead. I doubt very much that my parents would have wanted me playing Habbo... and, I just wish they explained to me why all the hockey cards I bought that were supposed to be 'worth something' were actually just pieces of cardboard, because all those scammer card-trading books said that my joe-blow rookie card was worth $100 dollars.

There is no way for ANY website to be predator-free; it's simply not plausible. However, Habbo does take as many precautions and measures to filter and moderate their site as is possible. They are simply doing the best they can; as is everyone else.

Also, to everyone who thinks Habbohotel is good: it's not. It's the internet's biggest scam. "Predator free" - apart from the people who run it. $77,000,000 a year? Crazy. What do they sell? Nothing. You send off to some premium phone line, get a few dozen credits for about £3 a go, to spend on things that aren't there. Pixels in cyber-space. They make big bucks from running a few servers.

They talk to people in the "newsie" like they're all 9 year olds, saying that Xmas furni's out, go beg your parents for credits. And, like slaves, they do.

They say your account cannot be hacked on Habbo; another lie. Any computer expert will tell you on sight this is a lie. Of course an account can be hacked. If someone managed to hack the US Pentagon, they can hack a pathetic chat site aimed at pre-teenagers.

habbo hotel are a potential scam site for teenagers, by making it look cool to have this stuff that most people can`t afford anyway.
The sulake company may know that many of their usersers have to call and not tell their parents about the charge they are raking up. to be honest i am suprised they let them play at all without playing.
i don`t know why their isn`t a succsesful website like "habbo hotel" that allows it`s users to make their own furniture instead of having to buy it with real money. at least then their creativity would be used instead of being wasted on changing you to u.

I go on Habbo Hotel UK and I think it is great.I have been going on it since 2005 And The only annoying thing about it is that some habbos keep asking for your MSN. I don't like it when people say mean stuff about it because it has been running since 2001.

I think Helen is talking from lack of understanding. Just because you don't understand something, doesn't mean its wrong. If she took a few minutes to actually browse the site rather than play a cruel trick on her son, then she would realise how well protected it is. It is impossible to have a website with no Paedophiles. The trick is knowing how to avoid them. As already mentioned, instead of just blocking habbo on your computer without explanation, tell your children the dangers. You can't possibly block every chatsite on the internet, so don't try. it won't achieve anything. If your kids learn about the risks now, they will be well equipped for life.

I am a 13 year old playing habbo, my mother knows, and knows the risks of me using online gaming as a way to converse with other people. After having experience habbo for a year. I have come to realise that there may be a few people asking for your msn, or trying to crack your account, but the majority of the people in there have good intentions. Habbo has a help tool in it so that if somebody is abusing their rights in anyway (asking for personal details or telling you to type your password, or trying to scam you out of your furniture) a system moderator will come along and suspend or possible exclude that habbo and his I.P from further play. There is a also an age restriction on habbo so as to stop people from under 12 playing the game, as most teenagers know the dangers of playing online and are aware of them.Even oing so far as to make sure that there are curse filters when somebody tries to swear.

So Habbo might be a place for exploiters and pedophiles. But so is every other virtual world on the internet, and furthermore, habbo have taken strong steps so protect people, and are still taking more.

erm...well habbo is doing well for the money !
and i think they should not charge for credits as most of the users are youngsters and we could argue over the fact they are spending there own money on here.
i have been on many sites which have made there own habbo hotel 50 credits a week...500 when u start free hc furni etc. i think i would rather be on that then spend £3.00 for every 35 credits.

Im A habbo player and I have been for over 4 years now.

I found the game alot of fun when I was about ten But as I got older it lost the fun factor.

This site is meant to be directed at teen society But I think many kids go on it too. There are alot fo pedafiles on any online game and thats just a risk any parent takes when letting there kids on the

Well that sort of happened to me yesterday. I just had enough of everything and everyone in it. Seriously habbo sometimes just takes over your life. And think about it there could be so many other great things you could be doing with your life! I mean especially when your likely to get key logged or hacked at least once in your entire time on habbo, whether it be small or a large amount taken. People online loose there respect because of the no face to face value. They dont care and to tell you the truth I bett none of you really really care either.

All us habbo goers ever do is just sit on our fat little asses and play in a virtual world. WHY AREN'T WE SOCIALISING WITH KIDS OUR OWN AGE! are we the bottom of the real world society ? What makes us come on each day after school and instead of doing our home work we come on and talk to people we hardly even know at all. Do we have friends ? WTH has the world turned into.

Society has gone haywire .


Please ask yourself why you play this game ? Really why ?

I can only think of a few facts.

1. Your extremely lonely
2. Your insecure
3. Your not a very nice person and no one likes you
4. You dont feel like you can communicate with people
5. You feel safer in an online environment


I mean seriously WHY do us as teenagers play this game ?


Most of us would never tell our real life friends that we play habbo because habbo's become known as a gay little online game for loners and pedophiles.

Is it a clever marketing scheme that sulake corporation came up with ?

And the answer is yes I think so.


I personally think habbo is there for the ignorant insecure people...


And when we get too smart for companies and advertisements we begin to drift away from the clever commercial pedophile of todays teenage society. Sulake in my opinion is raping the teen world of its money.

Its taking advantage of the adolescences of the world.


So soon I think we all wake up to this fact but then its too late to stop the addiction.
Its almost like a drug. It consumes you. YOU must go on and check your messages, YOU must go and comment on ERICYUM'S home page or YOU must have that peice of pink furni it would totally suit your room!

And in the end you've spent so much of your real life earnings that you think "Wouldn't it be a waste to leave the game now ? Ive wasted so much money I might aswell keep playing the game." And so the cycle continues on and on...


That is until the real world catches up to you. To think about how many relationships Ive lost because of being on habbo... So many relationships could've grown and become more. But no I stayed on habbo and talked to virtual people on a virtual hotel that are in the end only pixelated forms of who they want you to think they are.


How sad is that ? I know really really sad.









In the end most of us finish playing habbo at around about the twelfth grade. Why? Because usually we have too many commitments in school and we also want to get good grades. Well some of us that is. Only the smart one's who want to succeed in the real life world of cars and monkeys.





So basically habbo and sulake is there to steel money from little kids.


Thats my bitch on the world at this point. And its 1:36 am in the morning and this is how im feeling.
