One organization is missing: @unepandyou The UNEP has recently been very active on Twitter with the Tweet 4 Trees campaign on Wolrd Environment Day (June 5th). It is a great PR / stakeholder engagement move for UNEP as they get on the digital and social media space, and a very positive sign ahead of the COP15 where the use of social media to transform the COP into a public referendum on our collective future is going to be key. I talk about this in my blog: http://www.sustainabilityconversations.com/?p=121 Thanks!

Ok, he doesn't just tweet about the environment but @Schwarzenegger has done a lot on behalf of it. Some tweets:

Doing big things for our environment. Look for other states to follow us. What do you think? http://www.mercurynews.com/...5:50 PM Apr 23rd from web .

http://twitpic.com/3synu - Some of you asked for this, here it is.5:58 PM Apr 22nd from TwitPic

http://twitpic.com/3slai - Here I am planting the millionth tree. What action are you creating today?2:57 PM Apr 22nd from TwitPic

On September 27, 2006 Schwarzenegger signed a bill creating the nation’s first cap on greenhouse gas emissions. The law set new regulations on the amount of emissions utilities, refineries and manufacturing plants are allowed to release into the atmosphere. Schwarzenegger also signed a second global warming bill that prohibits large utilities and corporations in California from making long-term contracts with suppliers who do not meet the state’s greenhouse gas emission standards. The two bills are part of a plan to reduce California’s emissions by 25 percent to 1990’s levels by 2020. In 2005, Schwarzenegger issued an executive order calling to reduce greenhouse gases to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.[57]

Schwarzenegger signed another executive order on October 17, 2006 allowing California to work with the Northeast’s Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. They plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by issuing a limited amount of carbon credits to each power plant in participating states. Any power plants that exceed emissions for the amount of carbon credits they have will have to purchase more credits to cover the difference. The plan is set to be in effect in 2009.[58] In addition to using his political power to fight global warming, the governor has taken steps at his home to reduce his personal carbon footprint. Schwarzenegger has adapted one of his Hummers to run on hydrogen and another to run on biofuels. He has also installed solar panels to heat his home.[59]

In respect of his contribution to the direction of the US motor industry, Schwarzenegger was invited to open the 2009 SAE World Congress in Detroit, on April 20, 2009.[60]

Am connected to most of the names being thrown about here and it is great to become aware of the ones I am not.

I run environmental social media marketing campaigns as teams.

Whole thing begs the questions. What if all the people mentioned here got together as a combined unit and cooperated and leveraged off the fact that they were one brand and were achieving one goal at a time.
Does anyone not think that they would not be 10 times as powerful as they are now??

Twitter is the greatest application in addition to Current.com. I do health and environmental Journalism and Twitter has helping me to reach an on growing audience of interest. I have hopes people will participate and act to abate noise pollution influencing the actual defective laws on the Local and Federal levels applied to Public Transportation. People really need to act right now and we are calling the interested parties to join us and support.

We need to focus on COP10. The Conference of the Parties 10th, is the United Nations Framework on Bio-Diversity. It will be held in Nagoya Japan in October 2009. Why dont we know more about this? There will 7000 people from around the world and there will be a deceleration. The impact will be the same as the Kyoto Protocol. Please join on FriendFeed for massive cloud collaboration. The end goal will be to increase awareness. And to have a Cloud Conference so that our votes and voices will be heard. Who is speaking for the plants, and animals? #COP10

Great list!! Thank you for compiling that -- very helpful in my networking. Here's another one for you, not to tweet my own twit, but I've just started my twittering, on the side of green-great-ness..... I am the project leader for Sharing Backyards, a free online service that sets up yard sharing programs using our mapping software. We help people SEE where usable land exists in their communities, helping localize the global food supply, one garden at a time. At 22 programs, we are the largest yard sharing project in the world.

I hope to see a yard-sharing program in every city in the english speaking world within a few years....then we;ll translate the site to as many languages as possible.

    Help us "grow" this movement!!

    Cheers -- Christopher

I am concerned about the environment in our world and have been for many years. It hurts me to go to the ocean and see dirty water. I would love to live in a place where streams and rivers are clear. The area I live in has polluted water and air because of mainly the textile industry which provides so many jobs to residents of not only our town but so many neighboring towns nearby. I feel solar and wind power would help so much with making a cleaner place to live and it would save money for consumers because of the reduction in their electric bills or eliminating them altogether. And furthermore, it is very possible that the electric company would be paying these same consumers for the electricity that is produced over what the resident needs to power the home. Go Solar and Wind Power!
