I don't let even my wife watch over my shoulder whenever I work at the computer. She can, when invited, stand over my shoulder while I show her something... but watching over my shoulder during normal work? Not a chance. Not her. Not anyone. And here's why:
The ultimate impact and meaning to the reader of anything written would be inordinately influenced by said reader being a witness to its creation. If one is a thoughtful writer who doesn't just blurt out every wayward thought that flits through one's brain, then one's going to pause to think while one types, and back-up and delete and re-type, and whatever else behind-the-scenes activity goes into what ends-up being the finished written product. If the reader were able to witness what the writer mere thought about writing, and then did but then thought better of and changed it to something else, then the bell of what the reader saw that was subsequently removed cannot be un-rung; and the reader's interpretation of the final result will be indelibly affected by it.
Though I be in my fifties, I embrace new technologies like a kid. But this one is already rubbing me the wrong way a little... and for me, that's unusual. Whatever else Google Wave might be, or whatever other good of which it might be capable, the ability of it participants to see one another's keystrokes is a monumentally bad (of biblical proportions, in my opinion) idea...
...and so will ultimately likely be a huge deal-breaker for me.
Huge.

In any event, imagine making a similar typing error while visible to potentially thousands of readers. Was is a mis-type or was it something you really meant but thought better of upon seeing it on the screen? I wouldn't want to have to defend myself against deliberate mis-readings of my transient errors.
Prediction: The "watch-me-type" feature will either disappear or become optional.
In the demo they show how you can check the box called Draft Mode to turn that off...
just seen the video also on you tube, it simply rocks... wow

The question, When you enable the platform?
Me: "We probably will. But my guess is that you meant 'seeing.'"
I know only because I speak from much direct experience on the matter.

Thank's
Excellent post Ben!
quite enough explanation to fulfill my curiosity,
thanks for share
I am very inspired of google wave. It's a very good way and i really love it.
Also it's great, because it is opensource.
Thanks to the great article.
But i have 2 thoughts, because i love pgp and openssl. Is there a way to make it secure? Think of don't want to share sensible information with other people or systems. Think about the live spellchecker integrated and so on.
maybe you are interested in a lil discussion on twitter? would be great. -> openaddisaden @twitter or direct twittersearch #dsc4781
Would be great to get some answers.
greetings from cologne / germany

posted your link on there too!
It's going to take an awful lot to get the luddite masses to shed email and "catch the wave", though.
Is the Wave App Store going to be the next big thing for application developers?
We were tossing ideas around at BarCampNYC4 on the weekend and came up with a ton of valuable robotos in a short brainstorming session but without a way for the third party developers to monetise those apps.......
What do you think?
Cheers,

Google is not the only solution to the world's problems. It is just a spy.
There are many other smarter applications you can rely on than Google (now waves).

What else can we make that google wont think very soon...
