What I like about google is that they actually create professional stuff (gmail, chrome, sketchup) and they give it away for free! Why do they do it, because they earn enough with their search machine (and the professional versions of some apps) so they can cover the costs for those pieces of software.

The point is, google is much more generous, and eventough they are only doing it to get more attention to themselves, i still love all their free apps, and I can't wait to see google waves!

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

Apple and RIM are winning in Mobile, but both of these companies are friendly to Google services, with the exception of mail with RIM. So advantage Google at this stage. Google are merely releasing Android to eliminate what remains of the non-friendly Symbian and Wince competitors.

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

I love both. It's interesting news for technophiles, but the general population just wants something that runs, and Windows comes bundled with virtually all non-Apple computers, so unless the users are sufficiently motivated (netbook users, for example), the OS won't break Microsoft's grip. You can see more about the general population's reaction at http://www.newsy.com/videos....

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

That's the one and only key, to compete with Microsoft. The operating system. There is really no other way. Who can forget the Power of Borland in programing environments. The Lotus 123 spreadsheet. The Netscape Navigator. And many other, technologically advanced products, who could not compete with far less advanced MS products, because of the "aggressive", native, OS support. Google rules on another powerful field, the Internet, and has the financial resources to support its moves. So that will be a hard battle. Lets see what will happen and lets hope that true competition will at least keep the companies of making products like the Vista.

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

Chrome OS will be amazing to explore,Everyone loves Google.

http://www.iyogi.net

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

2 yrs ago I thought it would take 5 years plus before the IE browser market share would have dropped to as low as it is now.

So you people thinking it will take 10 yrs, guess again, more like 3 - 5 yrs tops based on Vista / Windows 7 foot print alone. Not to mention how many people are totally pissed off at MS these days.

The writing was on the wall with Windows 2000, when MS forced updates and upgrades on consumers. You should never have ignored that checkbox to only upgrade or update with user approval mid way through Win 2000.

I have been happily Windows free at home for well over a year now. As to the hardware vendors who do not release device drivers for anyone but Microsoft, I simply stopped purchasing their hardware. Thanks to Coreboot and ZaReason, there is no reason for any consumer to be trapped by vendor lock-in ever again.

It's nice to be FREE! They have the most accessible OS and interface. But they're locked in to their hardware. Cloud is the future. And that is illegal.

Having a presence on the Apple board and working with Microsoft's customers (PC makers) against Microsoft, is conspiracy in the real sense and should bring a RICO allegation against Google and its collaborators. What Google is doing sounds a lot like what Intel gets in trouble for a lot. Where is the outrage against Google?

Everyone loves Google. Everyone loves Warren Buffet. If Buffett started building cars, better cars maybe, maybe not and giving them away with the hope and goal of dominating the market for his insurance businesses, would that be fair competition to Ford?

Critics of Microsoft (or is it of Bill Gates) often refer to the "Microsoft tax”,, let’s be realistic here. If/when Google realizes its goal of dominating the Web experience, everyone, even those who never use a computer or the Internet, will pay a “Google tax”. It will be passed on to all consumers by advertisers of all manner of goods and services because they will have pay the Troll whatever it demands to play in it’s G-Space.

WTF Microsoft, get your game on!

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

I am SO dedicating this week's limerick to this whole deal...it'll be out eventually before the Monday announcement.

You can probably Google or bing it.

Re: Google vs Microsoft: A Guide to the Battle

With chrome OS google is threating not only Microsoft but also Apple.
