It really makes Google Reader many times more useful to me, because now I can send articles to Instapaper quickly. I made a custom Send To link to do it.

If you use Instapaper, check out my quick explaination of it: http://www.willw.net/adding...

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

First of all, that's an incredibly creepy user pic.

And 2nd of all, good point. I suppose it offers more control, but that's just a matter of personal preference. I only share the ones that are really good, or that I find really interesting and want to see in my Twitter stream. You on the other hand seem to be sharing for other reasons, and I didn't think of that.

Question though, if you're sharing but don't want it shared, then why are you sharing it? What's the point? Isn't that what the "Like" option is for?

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

This is great because some of us like to share a bunch of things on GReader, but don't want those flooding our Twitter feeds, which in turn feed our Facebook status updates automatically.

Now, for my friends following on GReader, they can browse everything I've shared whenever they feel like it. They're not forced to sort through it all on Twitter and/or Facebook. And for friends not following on GReader, but are on Twitter/Facebook, if I find something of particular interest, I can hit a quick link to share it on Twitter (which will also share it on Facebook).

It's discretionary sharing, and IMO that's better than the fire hose method other places utilize. I was having FriendFeed share my GReader shares, but I kept having to self-moderate what I would actively share. Now I can just uncheck having FF share GReader to Twitter automatically, and go back to the way I was sharing before (which often included inane things like Failblog and LOLcats that don't need to be clogging my Twitter/Facebook updates).

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

Google Reader .. nice and use ful think for IT Hunger.....

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

First of all, who says that blogs that don't get tons of reTweets and Diggs aren't worth reading? How would your POS handle new blogs? Just because something isn't established doesn't mean it isn't good. Or, by your own way of thinking your spammy, upstart service should be filtered out of my damn visual range and not be in this comment section, because it falls below a certain level of reTweets and Diggs, because it's new.

Man... so many spammers on Mashable lately!

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

It's lame, because it doesn't do it automatically when you hit the "Share" button. You have to manually click Send-To and then send it to each one.

If they're gonna try to play this game, why do it all half-assed? Why not do it right the first time and set it so you can pick which services you want your "Shared" items to auto-publish to?

Me? I'll just leave Friendfeed hooked up to my shared items so I can click once (on Share) and not have to worry about it.

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

Google is like a GOD. There's just too much garbage going into feed readers these days, as blogs generate ever increasing amounts of content.
What you really want is a feed reader that uses a ranking system that filters out all the junk. Retweets are a good measure of quality , number of comments, diggs.. why not use that information to help make readers' life easier?
Well, that's why tFeeder is there. If you're into technology news, tFeeder will save you TONS of time spent on looking for interesting items in your feed reader. It also has a very simple mobile version, so never before was doing a number 2 such a fruitful waste of time!!
http://tfeeder.com

Re: Google Reader Updates: Share News on Twitter, Facebook, and More

I'm definitely having the feeling, someone at google is monitoring my computer, and building on my ideas....hmm!? no probably not.
