Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Google Monopoly City Streets: Down on Launch Day

  • TC Conway · 3 months ago
Fail. How can it ever be successful if it's down since launch.
  • Tom · 3 months ago

  • extraterrestric · 3 months ago
Yea, I'm keen and I tried to try - but it is down the whole day. Shame on Google and Hasbro.
  • facebook-503994488 · 3 months ago
I desperately wanted to play this morning, especially since it was my only free time in the next 5 days... to bad they did not prevent this!
  • Angelo · 3 months ago
Luckily I registered an account already. Muhahah. :P

  • tweetamar · 3 months ago
I really wanted to start playing - but it's been impossible to log in since this morning!
  • Matt Hopson · 3 months ago
Very frustrating that after quite a lot of publicity they have under-estimated the interest in the game. After several attempts at playing I gave up. When I re-visited the site later I did manage to load the game but unfortunately it was in Spanish... Now if only I spoke the language! ;)
  • brunobernardino · 3 months ago
I saw the "PLAY" page once, but then it was all black... (well, blank) :/
  • nick terry · 3 months ago
That actually does sound cool. Google are so smart.

  • MyMemories · 3 months ago
I managed to get in for a moment but it lags and crashes on the registeration screen.

There's two pics on my blog of the game that I managed to screenshot.

    Do check it out !!!

We anticipated an opening rush when we launched the Monopoly City Streets online game, but the first few hours have surpassed even our greatest expectations.

We are in the process of increasing our firepower and expect to be running more smoothly within the next several hours.
  • Videos de Youtube · 3 months ago
Just now i´m inside, it´s not very fast, but is up
  • Name · 3 months ago
Can't wait to try it. I think Risk would also be a good implementation of this concept.
  • derek_lee · 3 months ago
I genuinely hope that getting it back up and running doesn't take long because I'm anxious to give this one a shot. Discipline is key...at least that's what I'm telling myself. Only 5 minutes a day and I can stop at any time...sigh...
  • Daryl Pereira · 3 months ago
Definitely keen on playing Google Monolopy Streets! I need a hotel to stay in on Park Ave
  • prahajugglaa · 3 months ago
Blank screen - failed to connect - black screen - connection error. Bah! I canny wait. I guess attempting to connect from Argentina isn't helping me much either though.
  • David Gilling · 3 months ago
It's either not loading at all, or showing an Apache 2 page... Damn it!

Just to confirm the land grab is afoot! The game is now running and will NOT be reset. Please ignore this post. There has been no such announcement
  • tense · 3 months ago
Well. You should. Having the servers down gives an advantage to those that do have the ability and or time to constantly refresh...

    for hours.

Some of us have jobs we're are avoiding.
  • Mike · 3 months ago
Um sorry its not running. how bout you make sure before you post again.
  • Christy Frink · 3 months ago
Agreed. I appreciate you trying to clear the air of rumors, but seriously? Some of us have been refreshing all morning and are unable to get anywhere. By the time the page loads after two hours, all the streets are already bought. It's so frustrating.
  • Mike · 3 months ago
and if u guys don reset ur idiots because the few people that did get on for 5 min unfairly got the best property no doubt.
  • mdot214 · 3 months ago
the problems suck. I got in once although I wasn't able to buy before it froze up once I clicked on an available street. Most of the good streets are gone and they moved up their start time overnight. Nice work (not). I thought google was helping on this one.
  • animalbrad · 3 months ago
    I wanna try it!!!
  • vegas · 3 months ago
There goes my plan of buying 5th avenue and the Las Vegas strip. :[
  • Mélanie · 3 months ago
It's avail. in France but sooooo slow, I'm bored now.
Registration is a pain, quote: "Your username is not right, and you know why (personal information)."
Finally managed to register, buy 3 streets and build something but it takes ages, in both good browsers (Firefox & Chrome)
  • alexstandiford · 3 months ago
Looks fun. I hope it actually works someday -_-
  • tense · 3 months ago
Don't bother. Everything will be bought by the time you can finally log in. So, just find some other game to play. People always fail to realize how A.D.D. the internet is. When you have problems like this... You will most definitely lose peoples attention.
  • Brandon L. · 3 months ago
That may be true, but you make an offer and if the offer is not declined, it's automatically accepted. HAHA!
  • mdot214 · 3 months ago
there is now a poll on their blog where you can vote to have them reset the servers once fixed/upgraded or continue on. Right now it's 84% for reset. Let's see if they listen.

    link to poll: http://blog.monopolycitystreets.com/
  • texsc · 3 months ago
I don't think they should reset... I've sat here all day (>6hrs so far) while at work just being patient and letting the page load in the background and have acquired 6 streets, & gotten 2 chance cards (+$350K in account). That would be a major disappointment for the people who stuck it through the server being slow and got some streets. Please do not reset... :(
  • tense · 3 months ago
Yes, it would suck for you... except I have done the same as you.... sat here at work all day 6+ hours and let the page load in the background... only I got on the page twice.. and saw a street for sale once.

    Patience got me... where? Annoyed.

    Title: What’s going on?

So then guys... today has been a rather busy day to say the least. We appreciate your enthusiasm to try Monopoly City Streets. Thank you for your patience as we work behind the scenes to make the necessary changes to accommodate the traffic to the game.

We had planned for a lot of traffic on launch day and had been load testing the game — in fact, we’ve been testing and optimizing for a whole month. However, between the enthusiasm of Monopoly fans around the world, everyone who was excited to try out the new experience and non-stop mentions of the game on Twitter, blogs and everywhere else, our servers were overwhelmed. Based on the stats we have, we show a daily rate of about 1.7 million unique visitors, but the figure is likely far higher.

Please be patient as we work to make the necessary changes. And, in the meantime, if you’d like to help us design a building for the game, see an earlier posting about the Sketchup contest. And, if you’d like to follow us on Twitter, our official address is: MonopolyCitySts

    Thank you again for patience!
  • mdot214 · 3 months ago
thanks for responding. this will get interesting once most of the streets are bought.
  • Robbie Spencer · 2 months ago
I appricate that your team is trying to make the game as enjoyable as possible, but in all honestly I have to poliently agree with most of the fans, you should reset the game when you feel you're more ready to handle the load.

I made sure to wake up early in order to play, spent over two hours refreshing, finally getting in, and watching as the street I pushed buy for over 15 times was bought while I waited for the server to register my purchase (This was Constitution Ave, in front of the White House)

Even now, over 14 hours later, the game still runs at a snails pace and it's impossible to get anywhere without wasting hours of my time.

I think in fairness to fans over the world, you'd be better suited reseting the game to create and equal, and level playing field for all players, which in the long run will lead to a more successful game and PR.
  • Bobby · 3 months ago
I have a great idea... lets take the World's most popular board game of all time... make it massive-multiplayer... use the whole World as a game board... and run it from a server in my Mom's basement.
  • tense · 2 months ago
    I loled.
  • Randall Lind · 3 months ago
The game is so slow. I was only able to log in once and buy a street but took forever and I couldn't bring up the rules or anything or pick someone to play with.

Google should leave games to facebook.
  • Web Strategy · 2 months ago
    very cool! I'd play that!
  • MyMemories · 2 months ago
Some new pictures are up if you couldn't get into the game to see it :D

In my opinion, this has been a great game :D
  • Peter · 2 months ago
I hope they don't reset it...It took me a very long time to login...But I finally got there, and even though the popular streets were already taken it was awesome to zoom around the world, see what was for sale and then grab it. There's talk of a reset when they fix the servers, but I honestly think that would NOT be the right thing to do.
  • MyMemories · 2 months ago
Agree. They shouldn't restart/relaunched this game.

They should pay attention to the bugs and fixed them first.

If there's a relaunched and the same old server crash problem occurs, not only does famous streets get bought away, even lousy streets will be bought away as well.
  • tense · 2 months ago
They need to go to finally fast dot com.

    MOoooooooooommmmmM!!!!!!
  • Gish · 2 months ago
    I got in! :D

    Then it timed out :(

Wonder if they are hosting this on Google infrastructure or Hasbro infrastructure. (One would think the latter)

    Ahh well. Will keep trying.
  • Gish · 2 months ago
    WTF?!

    I just got the following:

    Country not supported yet

Sorry the game is not yet availble for your country, please try again later.

    WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  • MyMemories · 2 months ago
Which country are you in ?

Do try again later as it might be having some error.

Do take a look people :D

There's a few pictures in my blog too.

Hopefully you guys are having fun :D

Hey guys - bit of a disappointment with message; 'Country not supported yet - Sorry the game is not yet availble for your country, please try again later.' (http://www.monopolycitystreets.com/blocked.html)
Pity they couldn't tell me as soon as they identified my IP when I went to www.monopolycitystreets.com but instead they get you to click "PLAY" then choose "Language" then load an animation before blanking the screen black to say they're not open for business in Australia. Surely even if they have an issue with Aussie streets people from anywhere in the world should be able to participate and buy streets in other countries... right?!
