Yes, its been a success. Since chrome debuted, Javascript performance, and various other issues that Chrome helped draw attention to have become a focus for other browsers (well, for Firefox and Safari/WebKit, IE seems hopeless). As a result, at least 10x as many people as actually use Chrome have benefitted from the competitive pressure from Chrome.

I don't want to overstate this, the Firefox and Safari teams were clearly already working to improve javascript performance, but still I think the competition has been helpful.

Chrome has been working so fast on my computer lately ... so fast!!! lol wow! Cant believe how only under 3% market share has it...the other browsers R sticking ppl in their web of who knows what...however, i do like firefox as well...foxxy lady!!!

The fact is... Chrome is faster than Firefox loading pages, starting, rendering pages and executing JavaScript.
Firefox eats CPU and memory. Firefox motivates the use of new JavaScript versions that only it implements...causing common problems, like the culture Microsoft applied before... on IE.

Just wait Wave, Google OS and Chrome future versions. You'll think again.

And please, meet www.chromeexperiments.com ... test on your browsers and feel the pure power of the 1yr old dude. Search about Tamarin too. It's a nice project and surely will make something nice happen.

For quite awhile Firefox was my favorite browser. But with every release it seems Firefox gets slower and slower, while Chrome just gets faster. Chrome 2 vs. Firefox 3.5 there is no comparison. I still use both but Chrome is my default when I'm trying to get a lot done fast.

Chrome is the best! My default browser. Cannot wait for the OS. It proves so much more stable and quicker than IE. Plus, the Bookmarks Bar is very handy.

also my default browser, its slick clean and with a small footprintand superfast. Not a memory hog like ie, and doesn't have all the add ons like firefox ( which to be honest i don't miss at all) it's a fantastic browser.

Chrome's my default browser too. I really like it a lot, just wish more apps ran in it ... or the ones that do run ran better.

My default browser as well. Happy Birthday Chrome! Most people stick with using IE because they think installing Chrome or Firefox would be too difficult for them.

I'm not worried about Google losing focus because of the Chrome OS. The Chrome browser has been the shot across the bow and to gain almost 3% of the market in a year? Look out everyone else. Bring on the Chrome OS!

I find this comment very funny, "More time is needed before we know whether Chrome was a smart project or a failed endeavor" because I would not call Opera a failed project and Chrome flew past them in under a year. 3% of a market that would otherwise be using IE is a respectable number. Now, I hope to see that number grow and would give my 1st born son to get the Hell Spawn that is Internet Explorer out of my Website Designing life, but that will have to wait a little longer.

Chrome has been my primary and default browser since day 1 of its launch. Seriously, I hate clutter on my desktop and chrome is the most minimalistic I've seen a browser yet. Besides, it is so seriously fast that I love it. The only drawback though, is that I must use Firefox for shopping online because some websites are just incompatible with Chrome and won't work well.

Seriously, I can't wait to try out the Chrome OS. I bet it will have a minimalistic interface as well.

I'm a big fan of Chrome! A colleague recommended it to me recently and I have started recommending it to others (and installing it for my non-techie friends)! It provides much more browser space on the mini computers, ease of use if a browser crashes (because each unit is separate), faster download speeds, faster/easier searches, etc...

I think the number is impressive. Look at Safari which only has 4% and has been around much longer.
