Feedburner is a hard product to explain to investors exactly what it does. I think they do have quite a good product though.

I belive that SEO it is nothing but hacking the Google's Search algorithm.
Even though it has an interesting topic to learn and implement ,it is tough to accept.

I never saw it coming. But my only concern is, google is stretching its muscles too wide and too quick. I started using Google more besides for search like Gmail,analytics, and stuff.

I'm really feeling uneasy about Google acquiring all these companies. Soon you won't be able to do anything on the internet without Google knowing.

Feedburner is a perfect fit in the future growth plans of Google. Though RSS is still not widely used, acquisition of feed burner will give Google a new market of advanced publishers.

If this is infact going to be the case, then this is just one more smart move for google. You made the point about all stats in the same place... well google hasn't bought out all pay-per-ad companies yet :P

In fact, the mention of feedreading makes me realize another synergy: they can combine Feedburner stats and number of readers in Google Reader to rank blogs in Google Blog Search (and Google Search in general).

Makes sense, but it would make me a little worried. Google will be able to see what you are searching for, what people are emailing you and what you are reading (both RSS and regular websites through AdSense).

I'm not usually a privacy nut, but I don't like the idea of a single company having access to all that information.

This makes absolute sense! I'm surprised Google hadn't jumped on this months ago. FeedBurner has vital RSS statistics, and their advertising program to Boot. You're exactly right Pete, why wouldn't Google buy FeedBurner!

I'd be interested to see what sort of percentage of web users use RSS feeds.. I've got a feeling it doesn't even account for 10%.... opinions?

I have a feeling that this acquisition is due to Google's move into Personalized Search. If they know all of the feeds that a person is subscribing to, they can use this to further target their search results. Seems like a good move to me.

I'm not sure they HAVE to buy Feedburner as Google already has enough parts to do it themselves, but with that much money, why not, right? Visual (I don't like the word 'display') ads in feeds are going to be a very profitable ad market in the near future (say 18 months) and the combination of DoubleClick, Feedburner, YouTube and Adsense would pretty much whack anyone else out of the park. RSS analytics is also a natural progression that we're working on at myRT, so you can bet your bottom dollar that Google Analytics would integrate Feedburner's tracking into their service as well.
I notice that Mashable is using both Google Syn, Google Analytics and Feedburner, so this would work well for you guys ;-)

Well Google claims they purchase a company every few days (mostly startups):

But over the last several months they have really been on a spree. Very shortly, if you do ANYTHING on the web (especially in the ad-market), you will be in direct competition with Google.
