The big "G"! A few more years they'll own everything on the web.

I don't think that Microsoft should be worried about this campaign. For example take Microsoft's Powerpoint, would you consider leaving the rich feature of PowerPoint and use Google's Presentation app which has very limited capability

No but I am elated to switch to Keynote which is far more user-friendly. Now that iWork '09 is online and we know it's possible to make a feature rich program as a web app, how long do you think until Google adds most of the features found in Powerpoint? I think Microsoft should be terrified, besides the majority of people don't even use all of the high end features AND you can still use Powerpoint and upload it to Google Docs. This is more about taking on Outlook and Sharepoint IMO and I think Google wins hands down.

Bold. Not sure how companies feel about having their sensitive data on google servers. Unencrypted?! MS solutions are so inefficient and expensive that it might just work.

This is what Google do when they know they have the upper hand. It's a tease. The advertising version of giving them the bird. And they are loving it.

Okay, so Google is asking IT managers to adopt a solution which, ideally, would result in massively downsizing their departments and handing many of their responsibilities over to Google? I mean, it seems like a great idea from an overall company strategy (e.g., cut costs), but internal politics should not be underestimated. Microsoft artificially makes IT Managers a critical element of business, and IT managers reward them for it.

Yeah, thinking the same thing. MS apps require massive resources - lots of time from system admins who have been trained to maintain the MS apps. That's bad from a company perspective but not bad for the IT managers themselves.

The second issue is guarding company secrets. How is that possible if everything resides on Google's servers. And it only gets worse if Google scans the company emails automatically to display its ads - I love Gmail but if I run a business, I am not going to have my data on their servers. I mean - can I sue Google if a competitor gets access to my company secrets?
