I really liked the right side labels. I wish it was still an option. I hope Google returns it.

Absolutely horrible.

I now see less of my labels at one time yet they take up gobs of left nav space, pushing my calendar widget and Contacts and Tasks links past the scroll and leaving a gaping hole of unused space in the right nav. Yeah. Really useful.

Google is now officially Microsoft: completely ignoring user needs and eliminating widely loved and well-used features for fancy but ultimately gimmicky flash.

Then again we're all just peons to these massive companies and have absolutely no say in the development of the applications that are now essential to our lives.

I have 200+ users at my company - all of whom I have absolutely no chance in hell in getting them to use Gmail now. Thx Google for killing my Google Apps Campaign.

Nooooooooooooooo!! I luved having the labels already expanded and fully available on the right hand side. Now, I've got to click on the "expand" on the left side of the screen, move the mouse over to the right side and scroll down, and move the mouse back over to the left side to click on the label that I want. Before, I could just scroll the page down with the wheel and click on the label. This sucks.

This is a classic example of the 'experimental' feature being much better than the final release! Many of us feel that the new drag and drop feature is an unnecessary extra because efficient use of filters drops the mail into the right boxes anyway. I really loathe having to scroll all the way down the screen for my Google Docs, Calendar and Twitter Gadget becuse you cant even move them over to the right to compensate! and hiding the labels is not cool either! Please reinstate some form of user choice, Google.. I have also added my comments to the Gmail Users Group btw :-)

YES! This from an avid Gmail user! i was completely suprized and like most folks, dont know now if i like it or not, but in a few months will understand why and LOVE the fact that they removed the labels!

Sometimes I really think that google people are quite stupid.

They said that the search wiki would have taken the place of google notebook functionalities. It didn't.
Now they say that the hide feature will take the place of the right sidebar. It will not. For a very simple reason: people put labels on the right side not in order to hide them, but TO SEE THEM better!!!

I have absolutely no use for the drag and drop, but my labels won't fit on the left side.

Most of my labels are populated by filters, which add label & archive (skip inbox).

With labels on the right, I could have them all displayed, and easily see which have unread mail.

Now I either have to scroll down all the bl**dy time to "poll" for new mail, or hide some of the lesser-used labels, but then I will never notice then I get new mail for them.

If there were a setting to auto-show hidden labels when they have unread mail, then I could live with this change, but as it is, I'm struggling to see how I can manage my email now.

Boo!!

When I checked my gmail today I thought it has been goofed up due to some firefox problem. Then I checked with gmail blog and realized whether it was only me who liked the right side labels. Probably because it was easy to access my frequently used labels from right side. Now After checking the comments here It seems many people like me loved right side labels.
Too bad google has scraped this lab feature . Now I am wondering what other lab features are used by me on daily basis which I considered to be the best features in gmail??
Would they be scrapped too!!

Something tells me Gmail is getting ready to be the official Microsoft Outlook and Exchange competitor. They are "close" but not there yet. I'm still waiting... semi-patiently ;)

This sucks, I much preferred right side labels. But, looking forward, all side windows should be draggable anyway, the interface is a bit behind other web apps in that respect. Everyone should be able to drap and customize their windows as they want.

At least the third: they also deleted the "default to Reply to All" feature. I was so used to it that now I always reply only to the sender.

Sorry to hear that Mike. I did use right side labels for a short time but I had a problem of some kind and discontinued the use of them. The drag and drop feature sounds useful.

I logged in today and it really annoyed me that the right-side labels has been taken away from me.
It was useful as I saw everything without scrolling up and down. I had the tasks and docs and calendar on the left and the chat and labels on the right with the inbox in the middle.
Really annoyed.
