It will be interesting to see which survive.

www.prettypinkpearl.co.uk is a great Social Site and its new...in 2 weeks its had 1500 members from the LGBT community!
  • Ralph Dagza · 2 years ago
are there that many gay and lesbian people on earth?

    do they really need four?
  • Jawad (Shuzak) · 2 years ago
Someone just informed me of http://www.pinkspots.net
  • Josh · 2 years ago
    SocialButter???

I know there is a shortage of good domain names, but geez...thats awful...
  • Rob La Gesse · 2 years ago
Uh - I live in San Antonio, so the acronym is confusing - I get the GLB acronym, but what's the "T" in GLBT? Or do I not want to know?

    Rob
  • Chris · 2 years ago
    T = transgender

    Wikipedia is your friend. :D
  • Rob La Gesse · 2 years ago
Wow - and I would have thought GLB would have about covered it all!

    Thanks!

    Rob
  • Manny · 1 year ago
Urm, Transgender people arent G, or L, B, they are T- for transgender - (again, use wikipedia.org) - that is why GLB doesnt cover it all.. Transgender people are not covered uder any or either of these singularly, as transgender refers to 'a gender' as apposed to a sexual preference, and a transgender person may also be GL, or B.

Something that should be worked on to be more appropriately representing of transgender people.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
I love the way you guys had to look up the T - you obviously don't go to the right parties. ;)

Frankly, I just wrote this cos I'd thought of a good title.
  • Jimmy · 2 years ago
That's a really nice layout (the socialbutter screenshot)
  • Saïd Amin · 2 years ago
Gay/Lesbian is one of the stronger niches out there. Religious, Gay and Ethnic verticals rule. Community Connect has the competitive advantage of steering their existing gay members from AsianAvenue, BlackPlanet and MiGente to GLEE.

    Peace.

Woohoo! Personally, I can't wait to see the release of these. I, personally, detest MySpace (though unfortunately, 75% of the people I know use it, so I'm stuck with it), and really have never been able to get into most of the Social Networking sites out there. It'll be nice to find a place that I can really sink my teeth into because I'll already have at least *something* in common with the other folks out there.

And to Ralph Dagza, I say this: Are there really that many straight people out there that they need an infinate number of social networks?

Considering 1 in 10 people is GLBT or some other form of "gay", I'd say 4 social networks isn't really that many.
  • Matt · 2 years ago
Of course QueensSpeech, which launches its beta within the next few weeks. This one is specialising in social and conversational publishing, rather suffering from the 'common' MySpace clone syndrome.
  • mr lim · 2 years ago
The girl in your Socialbutter screenshot is gorgeous. Too bad she's gay. :/
  • Audi · 2 years ago
    lmao..this is sooo gay!!!!!
  • Daniela Asaro · 2 years ago
I also agree that the design and layout of the Socialbutter page works well.

PS. Mr Lim--lots of gays are gorgeous ;)

Someone Meebo'd me on my web site a few minutes ago (I was running the vacuum and missed the ding... the message was this:

[19:06] meeboguest985594: hi-- i know this is a little critical and borderline rude, but your comment about the T in LGBT is offensive to someone who falls into the acronym.
[19:07] meeboguest985594: but i'm glad someone told you about the T. it's all not as scary or disgusting as one might think. we're just people too.
    [19:07] meeboguest985594: happy new year...

I'm sorry I missed them, whoever they were. I didn't mean to be offensive, and honestly, since I had now idea what th "T" stood for (see comment 6 above), I don't know why they were offended. I hosnestly didn't know if the T was for Transformer or Turtle.

Anyway, sorry someone thought I was rude. I didn't intend on being that way. But I really think they were over-reacting a bit.

Now that I know what the "T" is for, I'll be very carefull not to piss any "T's" off. Ignoring the G, L, and B as well, that leaves me 22 letters to toy with, so I still feel comfortable.

I *hate* having to be politically correct, but I DO want to play nicely with others.

Check out http://www.jaketm.org/,http://manjam.com/ ,http://bigjock.comPresently Techcrunch lists manjam.com is the biggest playeer in this sector . However I liked the features of jaketm.org Unlike other sites this site allows its members to get as much commercial benefit out of our technology as possible. In other words one can advertise their company, for jobs, sell stuff on the forums, or just use it to meet new people. It would be interesting to see how this site manages the downside of allowing its site to be a sort of free commercial medium when some SN sites are coming down heavily on spamers and fake profiles .Iwas also impressed with how it sucesfully created trusted and constructed profiles .Watch out this site in the days to come .
  • Matt · 2 years ago
    Don't forget Gay.com
  • Ty · 2 years ago
What defines a social network? Having friends? All of these sites listed above don't even come close to 10% of the traffic adam4adam.com gets on a daily basis and they never will unless they offer real time value.
  • Daniela A. (Asaro) · 2 years ago
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_network

There doesn't seem much going on with the site you mentioned/plugged.
  • Michael · 2 years ago
I would love to know how many of these sites have any revenue model to speak of and how many of them are paid . And if they are paid what kind of Niche services are they providing . Vertical Networking sites seems to be coming up everyday.. But I am yet to come across a SN site which positions itself uniquely . 2007 may be the year of the Social networking Bust ...

You must have left out the best one I have found yet.

    www.mygaymyspace.com

by far the easiest and most fun gay social networking site I have found.
  • Randy · 2 years ago
I just recently came out of the closet. I was gay for as long as i can remember. I know how hard it can be, i was taunted, beaten up.. the worse things. I feel so refreshed now that i have told my family and friends that i am gay. i even told my employers. these were the best decisions of my life. i no longer have to hide who my identity any longer. if any of you want to talk about your 'coming out' experiences or about your gay experiences in general i'd love to listen and share mine. call me at 519-680-0888. just ask for Randy.

Well I've been looking around...and heard all sorts of rumors...and it seems to me that a lot of these supposed "gay" social networking sites are run by straight conglomerates. What the hell do they know about the GLBT Community? They send their little marketing people out there and do all their demographic crap. These lesbians like this. These gay men like that. Well thanks for telling me what I like and want I met these guys at a party and they're launching a real social networking site for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Now that's really a site for the GLBT Community.
  • Jusy · 2 years ago
GayM8 is a new free gay personals site www.gaym8.net its pretty cool i prefer it to Gaydar n that anyway.
  • Vedette · 1 year ago
Don't forget "Q"! (queer/questioning). It basically applies to any person who doesn't fit into any single constraint of GLBT or straight.

DowneLink.com is the most widely used. Especially here in the west coast. Dlist is a for-pay networking site and only caters to Gay men. So far I use Downelink and Downelink only. Perhaps its because its the most professional website that ALLOWS its users to edit their HTML coding and design.
  • FancyFree · 1 year ago
Yeah but the best Gay Social Networking Site of is
    enGAYge.com
  • Jay · 1 year ago
downelink.com is the largest social networking site out there right now.

    Hi girl,
This is only an invite. Of course, you need to be a true lesbian girl.
Well, I’m happy, the Facebook has made such a positive difference for us at Lesmatching, I’m forever grateful of all the support that we’ve been getting from our family and friends but most especially you who come to the site and visit. Here’s a blog post about the site: Lesmatching.com is an upscale dating and matchmaking service for lesbians seeking other lesbians who are looking for long-term relationships and who wish to forgo the typical dating scene. I hope you enjoy it; I love the photo that they choose to depict http://www.LesMatching.com, wish I had found it first LOL.
