Flickr does not allow you to comment on photos if you are not logged in using flickr or yahoo account. Sure this reduces spam but I am sure there are ways around it (moderation?) or use facebook connect? Or google connect.

IMHO flickr hasn't got all the tricks as far as the user interface is concerned. Like a Next/previous links. You have to click on small thumbnails or links below them. I think it's crap.

Flickr never created a desktop organizing tool like picasa, well picasa is an editor but something simpler with sync functionality of iPhoto. Despite the resources yahoo has they could not creat any kind of desktop support. Well except the flickr uploader.

Sharing between flickr and facebook sucks. Your public photos appear hours later than you upload on flickr ( if you have setup the sharing). Finally when they show up and When I click on photos I am taken to flickr to view and comment.

If anybody has tried plaxo feed, that's exact functionality facebook needs. There you can comment within plaxo.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

wooooww!

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

Have you noted Flickr has had a impressive fall of views, two days from now?
I've experienced about 70% of loss, more than ever. You just can't compare it. Facebook is a social net, I upload there only photos of friends for them to see but my artistic photos go to Flickr because of all the groups and because there is good and constructive criticism there. Totally different concepts in those two webs for me.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

I am surprised to see the number of photos Flickr. Facebook by default is a closed community as it requires membership in order to view the content. In addition, Facebook users have another layer of protection over their content in the form of "friends lists" and "networks". More importantly, Facebook lacks photo searching capabilities as well as advanced taxonomy (tagging & sub-albums). Thus, it is perfect for simply sharing photographs (both artistic & casual) with a close circle as the audience.

Flickr on the other hand is a completely open environment accessible both by internal and external search engines with simplified access control, copyright protection, display preferences, and highly sophisticated taxonomy as well as extensive community features. It is aimed at people who want to share their work not only with friends but with anyone else interested in such work.

I personally post "pictures from last night" on Facebook in a highly-protected album and my artistic attempts along with general interest snapshots go to Flickr.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

Truth hurts, don't it ya kool-aid sucking kiddies? I know many professional photographers that use Flickr as a means of self-promotion. If you want to show off your photographic skill, Flickr is prime for that. Facebook reduces the quality of photos, and there is no way to expand photos to full size.

It should be no surprise that Facebook has more photos- especially with mobile uploading. Photos are shared by a much broader audience on Facebook than Flickr, and these photos are shared differently.

For the record I use both, but I definitely wouldn't put my Facebook photos on my Flickr pro account.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

hey thanks...i'm going to try flickr for my pics from India to accompany my blog.
My India Travelblog:
http://pattybcoffman.blogsp...

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

Facebook doesn't give you view counts which I find really annoying. It's nice to know what people find interesting which you can get some measure of by the view count.

Flickr also just seems like a more open community without viewing limited only to your friends.

Snapshots of friends go to FB, real photography goes to Flickr.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

The main separation at the moment seems to be the communities. Facebook's communities are subject to your friends (and usually riddled with pictures of people in the pub) whereas Flicks always seems to have a higher standard of photograph. I post low-res images to deter their being used elsewhere without permission. As others have said, many of those who post to Flickr, especially those I've chosen as my Contacts, are often high-quality photographers who shoot more than snapshots but are skilled in their craft of photography and post processing. They are inspirations as I walk along the journey, and many are generous in the sharing of their knowledge and techniques.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

Facebook = snapshots from a camera phone
Flickr = you will find some excellent images there by professionals

There is just no comparing the two.

Re: Flickr: 4,000,000,000 Photos And Counting

Wow!
