Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Finally: Gmail Lets You Multi-Select Attachments

  • Jonathan Dingman · 9 months ago
Hmm I tried it, but it didn't work for me.

What OS/Browser has this been tested on?
  • Adam Ostrow · 9 months ago
you might need to just logout of gmail and back in ... that seems to be the case with their new features
  • goodmars · 9 months ago
I'm on safari, it seems to be working.

Gmail always does a slow roll out with new features. It took me a full 24 hours longer to get the themes than my coworker who sits right next to me here.

I have it on mine, and not only does it allow you to select multiple files, but there is also individual progress bars for each file. Very nice, thanks for pointing this out.

Is this really a standard feature for file uploads? I feel I've never seen multi-select file uploads anywhere that didn't require some sort of java/flash/activex plugin. The standard HTML file input (with the "Browse" button) only allows for single file selection. How is Gmail doing this I wonder...

That is GREAT news!! My Gmail pet peeve is that the "save now" button is only at the top of the draft itself - not near the "archive", "report spam", and "delete" buttons. It is only an issue when replying to an email and going back to the inbox prematurely. And I know it isn't THAT hard to just scroll back down and click "save" but it still bugs me....

    Sweet.

I saw their blog post about this a few hours ago. I can't wait for the opportunity to try this out. I often send myself files from work (since USB drives are forbidden).

Adam, you've lost out, you can upload multi files since ages using the FF dragdropupload plugin. and even with this new gmail feature, this is still a must!!!

    cheers

Sorting by different attributes would be nice

Been loving all the new GMail features, but my #1 request is still push email to iPhone.
  • Domain Superstar · 9 months ago
You aren't happy with the IMAP? For my purposes, getting alerted every 15 minutes of new email is plenty.
  • yansarazin · 9 months ago
IMAP is nice, though here in Canada we aren't lucky enough to get unlimited data. So checking IMAP every 15 minutes really adds up for someone on a small data plan.

Great feature. They could improve it by showing actual images (when selecting jpg, png, etc) instead of just file names.

Well, there is a point to be noted that Google Gmail is still in the beta phase. Its been out here since last 3 years now but still in Beta!

Thanks for this info. Glad they're working on this! Something I would like for GDocs is Google Collaborator Update Alerts. I told my friend at Google about this, too. Separately, he says they have a big product launch scheduled for Monday.

    Google reader does this
  • JohnRHaigh · 9 months ago
I'm not seeing this. Do you have a link? I see that you can share public sites, but not private collaborative Google doc updates. Thanks...:)

Another reason why Gmail is and continues to be my webmail of choice

The one thing that still gets me about gmail is that irritating "sent for and on behalf of" header message that you get when you give one of your accounts permission to send email for another account. Grrrrr...
  • Katie · 9 months ago
That also bothers me! I really hope they fix it!

This may be one of the best additions to Gmail in a long, long time. Only one word can now describe my feelings... "finally!"

I really miss an easy way to sync my contacts from Gmail and desktop Outlook.

Unless I've been living a lie and missing this feature, I wish they had an Archive+Next button. I know they have it as keyboard shortcuts ([ and ]), but my life would have been easier if they had a simple button. I work mostly with the mouse, not with the keyboard, after all.

Still, the multiply attachments was a close second.

I've gone to compressing into zip files if I am sending more than one article. It's a lot faster and less hassle.

This seems to have completely stopped working with Firefox 3.0.8 release - instead reverting back to the older method. Grrrr...
