Unknown to most of the world, many users of Facebook are waging a campaign to convince the Facebook administrators to lighten their policy on fake profiles. Facebook has been (albeit within their clearly-stated rights) deleting fake profiles on a regular basis. Usually those targeted are the more visible ones with high numbers of "friends". The creators of these profiles are petitioning the allowance of fictional and historical characters, though granting that no one should be allowed to make a profile for a currently-living person other than themselves. Facebook has so far not responded well, if at all, and has even gone so far as to delete at least one of the high-membership groups devoted to saving the fictional characters.

I am in favor of "legitimate only" profiles and Facebook deleting the fakers, posers, spies and voyeurs. Let's at least try to communicate and be real, since we're not in-person as it is! It's still fun.

Facebook could find themselves a legit tool to a large faculty/staff demographic (for more than just investigation) which would be a lucrative advertising demographic. Problem is, the Gen X willing to embrace Facebook as such aren't exactly a'plenty on our campuses. It's an interesting generational impasse. I'll be interested to see if Facebook begins to either further corral those with Faculty/Staff designations or embrace them.

I strongly agree. The members of Facebook were loyal to Facebook due to its unqiue and convenient exclusivity to connect colleagues in a fun, inventive, and even professional way. For these appeasing features, the members of Facebook were loyal. Now, for Facebook to give itself, again this whole new "Facelift" could mean death for the brand.
I think this is merely an unwise and darn near desperate attempt at going one-on-one with MySpace by making it an Open-membership site. But, the thing is that Facebook and MySpace were created with 2 different objectives. MySpace was designated to be Open and florish that way...which has been leading to so much controversy surrounding the safety of minors online.
Facebook was designed for the niche markets it started with. For Facebook to "start over" is like Coca-Cola changing its original product over and over to go against Pepsi's new flavors and brands, instead of just diversifying the Coke lineup with new brands and flavors.
I mean, we all remember how the nation reacted to Coca-Colas first attempt at changing the original product back in the 80ies. Not so well.

I wonder how much they are making from advertising each month now, they still have stayed away from sharing and promoting music and video which may help them a bit legally bt with so many companies offering all sorts of extras for sites like myspace there obviously is large demand for this type of extra. We shall see whats going on by next august.

i love facebook. however i wish that we could restrict pictures to be saved by other people! i am totally ok with some people saving my pictures and putting them on there page, but others well i would love that they couldn't. so what i was thinking is that instead of restricting the person from seeing my pictures.. when someone right clicks on the picture to save it, it will ask the owner of the picture for permission to let that person save that picture. Just an idea! just an idea!

I was looking at my friends Facebook page and laughed because one of his applications said that he was a social outcast. I made fun of him on his wall, and then he invited me to join the app, Social Climber. It’s the simplest application, yet it is freakishly addictive. Basically, you just climb on top of your friends once a day before they can climb on top of you…ridiculous, I know. BUT there’s a free iPhone for the winner!!! For an iPhone, I’ll climb on top of my grandmother once a day (gross).

Umm, Not totally correct( i didnt get very far reading through!) but you dont have to be in a network to be on facebook- makes it even more private which is good- myspace is way too public, but i guess thats the idea of it- something you want to share with the whole world, not just your friends

I think face book has to many features now. Face book are adding hidden thoughts that I think can jeorpodize a relationship.
For example: Flash, stroke I think these ones and others should be taken off face book. Also idenity theft is huge people putting to much information can be a negative inpact on them as someone could use there infomation against them. I thought this site was to find old friends it's turning into a dating service.

If any of you are big mobile users. You should download the Boopsie search engine application to your phone. It makes searches quicker through its category based channels, one of which is Facebook Friends. I go into my Facebook Friends channel and just search for a friend from there and i message them, write on their wall, etc. It's seriously faster than any mobile browser.

i dont like the part where they violate the privacy act and for the picture comment if someone wanted your picture even if you cant right mouse click and save it all the person has to do is print screen button and cut it out you cant stop it except keeping certain pictures off the net.
I had to read thru this whole garbage because i have a 9-10 pages essay to write on the representation of facebook in my cultural studies class(University of Windsor, On Canada). Surprisingly, there was alot of reasonable informations i needed for my essay but most especially the survey counts. Thanks to whoever wrote it and hopefully i get a good grade on it cos its %35 of my final grade and if i do, am definately posting my essay on this page.

Interesting that in 2008 Facebook has only gotten bigger and stronger. I will say this, its not over yet. I think the social game is still relatively early and their may be other models that will emerge and be just as dominant.
I have never been able to access my facebook account. I keep getting a notice back telling me that I have an invalid e-mail address. Some of my friends have told me that there is a teen member of Facebook that has the same name. I think that possibly the system can't tell us apart. I was able to get in touch with the Facebook staff once. They gave me a list of things to do that I didn't begin to understand to correct the problem. Why do I need to correct the problem? Isn't it their problem?

Fake Profilers are messing up facebook. It makes using facebook very uncomfortable. Facebook should do something to prevent this.
Facebook went pass myspace in number of heads. I think it is a good thing considering the value facebook provides compared to myspace which mostly teens and lunatics are around ;)

Why in the world would you make it so hard for someone to remove an unwanted picture placed by someone else? Why? What is wrong with simply giving the Facebook person/owner the Right to elminate any unwanted pictures without asking permission from the sender? What is your point with taking this control away from the page owner. You are apparently very bright on all other counts so I am asking as to the thought of taking one of the Rights of the Facebook page holder away or maybe this never crossed your mind but it did mine just now dealing with a situation on Facebook for my teen-age daughter and a teen-age friend. I hope the light bulb goes off in your minds. Maybe you do not have any children or teen-agers yet so I am helping you understand from a Mother's point of view trying to protect the hearts of both teen-agers as they are not responsible for our under sights or lack of vision. Lucky for you I just lived through a stroke from anger on this subject, there is a God for both of us after all I just proved it from a lawsuit against your company and I have a big family with people that I never new would have cared til this. See a God.
