I dumped all apps and the site is still running like I'm on a dial up connection. I've been logging in and doing other things while I wait for it to load. You'd think the folks at FB would be aware of this and working day and night to fix it, but here we are three days later and there's still a problem. The folks at FB probably can't update their own blog because they can't get in, but at least they should say something about it on twitter.

I have close to 200 friends, and lots of apps, but I don't seem to be having any trouble with facebook its self. I am having trouble with some apps being REALLY slow. And the chat seems to bump me off a lot.

normally don't have issues with facebook, but in the last few days, just ridiculous! So bad, I just gave up! Now today, it seems back to normal. I guess it wouldn't be so frustrating if they(fb) would notify users of known issues.

It's been painfully slow to essentially non-existent for everyone here (3 users) since Friday. Frequently I can't get a page to load at all. Seems to be better in the very early morning and very late evening. I may just walk away for a few days.

Facebook was so slow Sunday I thought my PC was at fault and ran defragger. But it was Facebook not my PC at fault. I have under 50 friends and few aps, but it took forever to load. Tweetdeck, on the other hand, had the latest posts from FB, although that didn't help actually reaching my profile.

However - FB has always been slow to me. I have less than 100 friends on there. I've not had my profile FAIL to load for quite some time, but slow? Hell, yes. Slower than Mashable even! ;o)

It's not my net connection either. 20Mb broadband can handle whatever you want to throw at it.

But when has Facebook ever worked 100%? Part of its charm, I reckon. What little it has left these days...

@Inoperante I had the very same problem :) And, while the page was loading Disqus, I typed a comment that was now eaten by the system, too.

The downsides of cloud computing I guess: If one site is eating all the resources of a cloud, all the other sites that rely on the cloud for their footwork fail as well. I'm really not that convinced of cloud computing; whenever I see a site I regularly use (Twitter, Mashable are recent examples) slow down to a crawl, it's amazonaws, googlecode or another such cloud thing it seems to be waiting for.

Been seeing the same thing over last three days on connections of 10 MBps and 24 MBps; typically hangs on loading homepage and user profile page while all other sites load fine. Not good when I can update my status easier using Seesmic or my mobile phone than I can using my web browser.

Facebook has been running extremely slow for a week or so. I started removing Firefox add-ons hoping that would help, but to no avail. I'm glad to hear it's not a problem with my computer or browser, and hope facebook gets it cleared up soon.

Seems to be back to normal today but over the weekend it was a struggle and I thought it had to do with my wife's laptop (hence I worked on the laptop thinking that was the problem).

I would rather have Facebook admit there was an issue and let us know they are working on it.

Yeah, facebook needs a fail whale right about now...it's been super slow for me for like the past week. Sometimes I can't even get the home screen to load. I've got about 420-ish friends and minimal apps....such a pain. It wasn't letting me upload pictures the other night when I was able to get it to load.

Slow since Friday... seemingly less bandwidth than they normally have. I doubt it has anything to do with amount of active users. Who raises $200MM and downgrades their bandwidth? Could also be result of database inefficiency; however Facebook has been pretty good at creating a scalable DB schema.

Since friday facebook have been at worst unresponsive and extremely slow, saturday was OK, sunday was a living hell, and today is still bad.

400 friends and many apps.

A few friends experience the same problem, while others haven't noticed anything. Strange.

Maybe I'm on the wrong cloud? A dark cloud? ;)

So what's next. Plaxo or back to friendster?

Just absolutely ridiculously slow. Would help to know why, but I don't suppose they can post it on their site if one can't even get to it. My account has been trying to log in for two hours now. Interestingly, I'm getting the update feeds from Facebook through Digsby, but I cannot get into Facebook itself. It behaves the same whether I am accessing from Mac OSX, Windows Vista, home or work. It has been sluggish for me since yesterday (Sunday, May 31) but appears to be completely bunged up now.

Have noticed that since Friday night FB has been running VERY slow. Get error messages and some apps seem to be working oddly or not at all. Many of my updates from Twitter are also delayed, sometimes up to 24 hours later. It has also been getting hung up alot. Many of my FB friends are also experiencing similar events.

Facebook is incredibly slow and unresponsive, has been this way for the past week or so for me. Once an app is opened it works fine, but if you want to move back and forth, or read your inbox and respond, it takes up to 5 minutes to load. Very very frustrating. I will check out deleting some apps and see if that works. Glad to know it is not just me.

Pretty much unavailable for me since Friday evening. I've got about 70 friends, and only a few applications. The main site and profiles take anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes to load. Applications load pretty quick though. Total garbage is all I can say.

Yes,it seems that facebook is very slow and t times not responding especially when I am chatting with a FRIEND,my screen goes crazy.It flashes from page to page and then I can not type to my FRIENDS and then I have to stop what I am doing and restart my computer.When I do eventually get back on the computer and or facebook to continue the conversation with my FRIENDS they end up offfline.Yes,I also agree that I thought that it was happening to my computer and I see that I am not the only one dealing with this problem.Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and or fellings regarding this issue,take care and have a great day.

It runs very, very slow. Won't even load the status page for me... It's been this way since over the weekend. Can't access anything on the main website page, unless I go to the mobile site and that's just annoying because you can't see everything. I also get kicked off FB chat and I'm using chat thru Digsby. I have very few applications on my FB and I always "x" out of the ones that show on my main page from others... so that doesn't show up on my page unless I got to their fb page.

I can access my home page, but my profile page take forever to load I also noticed that the seach box is not "autofilling" like it usually does (maybe I am not being patient enough with it). I might just stop going on facebook because I just can't take that blank screen. Even just checking your notification is painful. They have that anoying blue load icon at the bottom of the cursor. My FB mobile is even faster.

I've wondered about the lack of news about this matter, because it does seem to be far reaching. I'm lucky to get Facebook to load at all, and if it does it usually only partially loads...at least the news feeds and walls. Games seem to load just fine. The last 4 days have been the worst, except for a window of time this morning between 3 AM EST and 6 AM EST when it was flying at light speed. I don't know what's up, but if it's not fixed soon I'm out of there.

Over the weekend I could not access much of anything on Face book so it has been painfully slow. Today it is a small bit better but still not right. It is good that the word is getting out there and perhaps face book is working on things. I thought it might just be my account. Yes, it has been extremely slow over the past few days. However, accessing FB from my Blackberry Storm has had no issues. I'm not even using the FB application on the phone, but rather the mobile FB website. No problems using it that way.

Having a lot of friends should not be an issue. Apps run on 3rd party servers and not facebook. The logical issue is, facebook.com cannot handle the amount of users on its own servers. The bandwidth is dead-locked. facebook needs more bandwidth and additional servers to handle their growing community, which I can imagine is tens of thousands of new users every day.

For our computers, FB has been painfully slow for at least the past three days. All other sites work just fine. I tried to load a video to FB late last night, and this morning it was STILL working! Needless to say, it never loaded the video and it was not a large video either.
Basically, the speed of FB is actually worse that dial up used to be. :-\

My Facebook account is completely unresponsive but I also have over 500 friends so that might be part of the problem. I just wish they would get it back up and running because all of my friends in Columbus OH are having the same problem and they have varying numbers of friends.

Brutally slow! Like some others have said, it seems better early in the morning (probably less users on at that and other various times throughout the day). Profile page takes forever to load. 2 users at my location and we're both experiencing the issue. Oh, and unlike Inoperante, took me all of 10 seconds to login to Mashable (and this was my first time ever). Thanks!

I never experienced facebook being as slow as it has been since this past Friday. It take soooo long for the main page to appear and sometimes says an error has occurred. I have some friends that do not experience this that are on my friends list. l do not have any problems with any other sites that I go to so we know its facebook. Hope this gets fixed soon as it is really annoying.

Are facebook too busy moving to notice that their service is going down the drain!?

It is so unresponsive that it no longer serve any value.

I've had it. I'm taking all my friend with me, and will start hang out at Orkut (google service) instead.

It has been many good years, but my respect (or what is left of it) is vanishing for every hour that pass without facebook mentioning these issues to the public. Soon it will hit a level that will force me to move, even if the problems are being resolve. I can not continue using the service without being able to trust in it.

Right now, I get the impression that facebook is run by a boys club that just happen to be on vacation.

Horrible problems with facebook the last week. Whatever they did to their servers most of the apps won't work with opera browser and IE8 won't display normal pages. I am having to use firefox as a last resort :-( just to play my apps. Most of my friends are reporting similar prob's and I have been helping them though getting at least marginal functionality back.

On top of all this slow server crap, the facebook mobile 1.6 that was supposed to be released on the 28th got delayed a well. Seems like Facebook is in way over their head and cannot keep up. I would love to know why they cannot contact members as a curtousey to let us know what the heck is going on. This to me is really unprofessional.

Facebook has been extremely slow for me since about last Wednesday or Thursday. While I have about 170 friends, I keep my applications to a minimum.

I see you have 194 comments right now, and I don't have time to read them all, so pardon me if I am repeating something. But one friend of mine brought up an excellent point -- there are an awful lot of these "How well do you know [person]?" quizzes floating around. They're the big fad right now. While they are entertaining, every... single... one... is a separate application as far as Facebook is concerned. You do 10 of those quizzes, and you had to add 10 apps to do it.

Personally, I hate how so many things require you to add an application on Facebook, so 95% of the time, I ignore requests for these kinds of things. If there's one I just can't resist, I'll usually go digging around in my settings afterwards to delete the application after I'm done with it. While I'm at it, I might delete 2 or 3 others I don't really use that often anymore. But how many people still have dozens of dormant apps sitting on their profile because they never bother to do any housecleaning?

But interestingly, as I post this... it looks like Facebook finally woke up and did something. Knock on wood, so far, things are loading much faster than they have been. Is it possible that a major site like Facebook simply doesn't have an emergency IT person working on weekends? Just absurd that it took this long for things to get back to normal. Then again, when I first joined Twitter a few months ago, they were in the midst of an image uploading problem that took about 2 weeks to solve. Maybe the new norm is for websites to take their sweet old time fixing things, and damned be the users. Can't complain if it's free, right? Heh...

Hadn't really noticed if FB has been slower or faster than usual. I connect to FB Chat via Digsby and that's really all that matters to me. Thanks to Digsby's FB connect, I no longer need to sign in to FB via my browser and the chatting experience is no longer limited to one tiny rectangle—now I have a much bigger rectangle :)

I have more problems with twitter than anything.
The last say week and a bit facebook would take minutes to load, my partner has no problems with it which I find strange.
My facebook items in digsby have been coming and going.
They need more servers, especially in other countries.

If the page fails to load completely, try this trick:

Check the URL in your address bar. If there is more than one part ending something.php, then delete the first part. Here is an example URL:

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2892935&i...

Delete the part "/photo.php?pid=2892935&id=507792742&comments#", leaving only the following in the address bar:

"http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo"

I reported this problem to facebook last year, and it seems to only be affecting firefox users.

For several days neither my fiance or I were getting most notifications about anything. I contacted FB about this twice. The second time to ask that they at least address at the top of the page that they're working on it. The last day it's been ok, but a few hours ago it has been acting up. I'm having trouble sharing items. I have the FB tool bard for Firefox so all I have to do is press share. Occasionally, when I click something happens, but for the most part nada.

THanks so much for reporting on this....i logged on to facebook the other day, tried to navigate to another friends page, noticed it was slow, got up made a cup of coffee came back and hiw page had still not loaded. This creates a poor experience especially when you pay for high, high speed cable connect and all other pages are loading fast. Facebook just raised a over $200 million and should apply funds to higher speeds through upgraded and expanded server farms.

I find that facebook runs signifcantly faster in IE compared to Firefox.....I tried multiple methods to debug Firefox thinking it might be an issue with the app itself....to no avail.....therefore.....I resort to IE to browse Facebook......making it much less tedious..!!

just try this:
go properties TCP/IP -> fill DNS server with 208.67.208.208,then Alternate DNS server-> 208.67.222.222 -> Ok.

for mac:
Safari properties->advance->Proxies->change setting->DNS->add a DNS server address->fill 208.67.222.222->ok->ok

Yes, FB has been VERY SLOW for a few weeks now. I am thinking it MIGHT be related to a recent FF (firefox) upgrade perhaps (FF3.0.11). But, I also noticed that FB did not allow me to post to my wall for awhile a couple of days ago. The main issue has been slowness, especially when adding comments or sending emails or just using forms in general.

You might check with the guys over at FF because I've noticed a LOT of cross-referencing between FF and FB in the complaints over there. Right now I'm using Opera and it seems fast.

IT's got nothing to do with the internet connection as other sites are perfectly fine, like youtube for instance. I'm somehow relieved to read things on slow facebook on the web as I thought it was either my computer or the slow connection. It's now impossible for me to even upload holiday pictures. To update my status seems to take forever. No clue what's going on.

I have been a facebook user for some time but am getting fed up, frustrated, irritated and generally have had enough of its slow functionality, its constant error messages ('we are trying to fix this - try again) and its unreliability. What I get even more annoyed about is the lack of immediate contact to make a strong complaint about it - where is the email us direct option? I will persevere a little longer but I'm not the only one who is fed up and thinking of closing my account.

Very slow to completely unresponsive at time. Quite annoying. I can see (3) "inboxes", and have been unable to open them for the last week. If the fluke is due to current upgrading or re-building of the website, it would be very helpful to have been warned prior to the incident. And if the issue was anticipated, a help forum would also have been on my "LIST OF THINGS TO GET OUT TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC"
