While Facebook events seems like such an easy and convenient way of gathering people to meet up, with the college scene i'm finding it's not having the response that one would hope for.

I'm about to enter my senior year of college and for the past 3 years I have been heavily involved in several organizations on my campus. One core marketing tool that almost every orgnanization uses is the facebook invite application. While this seems like an ideal way to reach nearly all of campus, faculty and staff included as of recently, the amount of invites that students receive per day can be overwhelming. It seems as though students will automatically click "attending" or "maybe attending" even if they don't plan to go at all. From the host point of view, this makes for some serious disappointment. How do you plan for an event when you have over 100 people saying they will be there and then only 30 show up? With almost every event bribing students with food, that would be a lot of pizza left over and therefore a lot of the organization's budget wasted. With budgets all ready being cut all over the place, pizza is certainly not the way to blow it.

What i've learned from this is that Facebook invites can be a good starting point but also to seek out other marketing tools in order to get the word spread about your event.

And do you sync your Facebook events with your calendar (iCal, Outlook, gCal, Sunbird, Zimbra, etc.) The answer is fbCal.
fbCal allows you to sync your Facebook events (yes, no, maybe) and also the birthdays of your Facebook friends.

Often wondered why there isn't a "Facebook Pro" which offers business users business type features as offered by the likes of ZoHo - this could - could - be a much needed source of revenue and would legitimise Facebook use during and from work, then peeps like me wouldn't have to keep going to multiple websites. I thought they were going to roll out a feature that allowed us to modify what apps we wanted in our news feed and what we didn't. I really don't care to read "what kind of alcohol" my friend is after taking a quiz.

On another note, I think this is a great idea after it integrates with the "Everyone" button that was mentioned a couple weeks back. I can see sending a quick lunch invite to only people in my "work" group.

It would be nice when I enter an event and include an existing address to have a clickable map attached, so to show where the event will take place. I tried with a test event and nothing happened. Going to the full event page that is created contestually, I see that my address filled the "location" line (which can be anything) and the address fields stayed empty. So this requires a second step to edit the event and include all missing information.

On the other hand I have noticed that the option to attach a map to my feed has disappeared from my publisher now that the event has appeared.

People who plan events on Facebook tend to invite EVERYONE they are connected to, and like marram said, they will either ignore it or say Yes to everything.

Nice, but my event post about meeting friends for lunch will get drowned in all the other noise and super pokes in my friends' Facebook streams. Oh, and we all get invited to too much stuff on Facebook that the majority of us either ignore it all or RSVP "Yes" to everything.

Maybe they might want to have 2 dropdowns in the same style they have now

- the Facebook services (Photo, (Facebook) Video, Links, Notes & [soon] Events)
- the Spam (whoops i mean 'Apps')
