It's now September 9th, and I just had my entire friends list DUMPED, and it won't let me reclaim them. According to my friends, they can still see my profile and communicate with me, but I cannot see or communicate with them. Cannot chat- nothing! Huge social fiasco for me today.

Since last saturday my facebook has started coming up with old status posts and wall posts on my laptop but on my phone it comes up with the recent ones so I know that people have updated statuses. Some of my friends are also having the same problem. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and maybe a way i can stop it happening. PLease at least just tell me why it's happening.

I have been trying for more than a week to access my account. My password was not accepted for some reason. I sent in the forgot password form, and got a verification email on August 11,2009, which I responded to, and have never, after a multitude of requests gotten even an acknowledgment. Now facebook has my personal information, and is denying my access to my account. Facebook is a junk outfit as far as I am concerned, and I am going to exhaust every avenue to get to my account, so I can delete it. Facebook has to be responsible to someone.

You misunderstand me, I am aware of BotNets. I was talking about the clustering servers of the social media sites, all around the world.

Have you heard of BotNets? They don't need to be servers, just regular computers - but compromised with a virus or rootkit of some kind. Most people who have rootkits don't even know it, or even notice the lag...

Not social media, but the Consumerist got hit a couple days ago, taking down all of Gawker. Didn't realize how vulnerable all these sites are. Glad I slept thru the Twitter/FB outage!

attacks are from Iran they are trying to bring down Mousavi's pages...they have succeeded on FB.

Yeah, you can see pages in the directory; but the pages don't exist. I own several.

Twitter is good for me. But can't get to my FB pages. Gives a "Not Found" error and a link to the FB homepage. Hope my FB page didn't get screwed up.

I saw speculation over at FriendFeed earlier that they were being hit as well, and I saw some spotty bugs similar to what I experienced at Facebook earlier which certainly speaks to that being a possiblity. Of course, in their case it could just be a scale issue since I am sure a ton of folks (myself included) hit them at once looking for news on what the heck was up with all of our other social media haunts.

I actually went through withdrawal this morning feeling completely disconnected from the world without twitter... then facebook! It took some looking around.. but he only place I found with any explanation on what was going on was Mashable. Thanx!
