I wonder if the attacks were the same strength at Facebook and Twitter? If so, Facebook did a whole lot better job at handling the attacks, better resources and scale.

Well if that's a fact, then some group prepared the attack for months. We are talking about a huge infrastructure of servers all around the world for these sites and they were attacked simultaneously. Almost unbelievable.

Have you heard of BotNets? They don't need to be servers, just regular computers - but compromised with a virus or rootkit of some kind. Most people who have rootkits don't even know it, or even notice the lag...

Using IM+ W/ Integration to all Major IM accounts, Skype etc. I kept having IM accounts 'lock up' intermittently , it's a little better now. But MSN Live or MSN IM still seems hit or miss. I'm suspcious there is more 'going on' I just can't put a finger on it.

I thought the Facebook attack came earlier than the Twitter DDoS attack. I'm stilling having issues with Twitter.
I've had some trouble with Blogger. It was down for me every few minutes - at the same time that Twitter was down. But if it was a DDoS then Google held out a hell of a lot better.

Open The Door at www.otd.to was also target of DDoS attacks 2 days ago, SharkTech datacenter (Chicago, IL) engeeners had to nullroute main server IP (NS) for several hours until attack was taken care of.
Here`s SharkTech statement: "Your server had been receiving 15+ Gbps attacks that forced us to nullroute your .. IP for a few hours." - Aggelos Pantazopoulos (Systems Administrator) sayd.

My Facebook was working fine this morning. Now this afternoon my games won't load, my Fan page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rimrock-AZ/Witche... is claiming not to exist, and I keep getting error message. To make things worse, I run an ad through Facebook Ads, and it won't let me pause it. So I guess I am paying for impressions for a fan page that won't load?
This article makes it seem like this issues were earlier today, but mine just started. So whatever is happening is getting worse, not better.

We're continuing to monitor today's outages over at downrightnow (Facebook, Twitter and LiveJournal) and problem reports are still coming in for all 3 services. Stop by for the latest updates and to report any other issues.
I actually went through withdrawal this morning feeling completely disconnected from the world without twitter... then facebook! It took some looking around.. but he only place I found with any explanation on what was going on was Mashable. Thanx!

I saw speculation over at FriendFeed earlier that they were being hit as well, and I saw some spotty bugs similar to what I experienced at Facebook earlier which certainly speaks to that being a possiblity. Of course, in their case it could just be a scale issue since I am sure a ton of folks (myself included) hit them at once looking for news on what the heck was up with all of our other social media haunts.

Not social media, but the Consumerist got hit a couple days ago, taking down all of Gawker. Didn't realize how vulnerable all these sites are. Glad I slept thru the Twitter/FB outage!

I sent in the forgot password form, and got a verification email on August 11,2009, which I responded to, and have never, after a multitude of requests gotten even an acknowledgment. Now facebook has my personal information, and is denying my access to my account. Facebook is a junk outfit as far as I am concerned, and I am going to exhaust every avenue to get to my account, so I can delete it. Facebook has to be responsible to someone.

Since last saturday my facebook has started coming up with old status posts and wall posts on my laptop but on my phone it comes up with the recent ones so I know that people have updated statuses. Some of my friends are also having the same problem. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and maybe a way i can stop it happening. PLease at least just tell me why it's happening. Thanks xx

It's now September 9th, and I just had my entire friends list DUMPED, and it won't let me reclaim them. According to my friends, they can still see my profile and communicate with me, but I cannot see or communicate with them. Cannot chat- nothing! Huge social fiasco for me today.
