Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Facebook Password Reset Confirmation Email Contains Virus [ALERT]

  • Chris Murray · 1 month ago
Do people really still need to be told not to open email file attachments?
  • advocatus · 1 month ago
In the password reset circumstances, how does it even make sense? I'm trying to wrap my head around that.
  • r0cketman22 · 1 month ago
    Sheesh.
  • advocatus · 1 month ago
    It never ends, does it?
  • Pallab · 1 month ago
What really amazes me is that people still keep falling for stuff like this!

Considering most FB users are not tech savvy at all, it could've been worse if they'd sent a url to click to 'confirm' the password instead. Even if they get a small percentage of passwords, the disruption this can cause is huge.

i just received one and it seemed odd since i had just logged on to FB with my old password with no trouble at all. furthermore it was sent to my work email which is not even associated with my FB account, i deleted that bad boy in a heart beat!

i just received one and i deleted the email in a heart beat. What was odd was that i had just logged in to FB with no sign of my password being changed and even odder was that the email targeted was my work email which is not even associated with my FB account.

Thank god for Macs -- so far. Not that I've been able to log in to Facebook for the past week, since my account is unavailable due to a "site issue."
  • Red · 3 weeks ago
That's a Mac issue, not a site issue, I can log in fine with my PC. Macs are harder to log in than Window's PCs. Mine is a new company that guarantees against any kind of ID theft as well as any virus they can come up with out there without the price range. It's half as expensive and uses WindowsXP. You can call from the number at the website and you get an ENGLISH SPEAKING PERSON! What fun! go to HonorPC.com.

thanx for the notice. got this scam mail yesterday & immediately gave notice to FB & the server originating the email scam, dondaldson.com (no response from either party)

BTW: could u give some attention to the matter of FB Page / Public Profiles? "Fans" of some FB Pages do not receive updates as consistently as others. some are never received. NO response from this site or FB. Please, look into this matter & report your findings. It seems that smaller or new FB Page admins are being ignored on this. There is a fairly widespread movement to BOYCOTT FB ADS 'til this is resolved.

Is this what is causing the FB login problems today. I've been trying to login for the last 2 to 3 hour and cannot.

Really, do people not have better things to do?

I wish you guys would stop saying that it is spreading via social networks. This virus is not spreading via social networks, nor is putting anyone at risk who is using social networks. It is certainly not spreading via Facebook!!

This is a virus that is spreading via email or external websites, just like 99.9% of all other so-called social network security risks.

I see lots of similar posts where readers are advised to look at email details (i.e., message headers) to extract additional sender information. From what I've seen, many if not all email services like gmail provide no way to examine message headers. That's one reason I prefer to keep using Outlook.

Why can"t I just have fun for ONCE w/o getting screwed????!!!!!!!!
  • Red · 3 weeks ago
You can! just not with you PC without getting screwed. HonorPC doesn't allow screwups to happen and you don't need any antivirus anything. It's great for gamers too!

I actually asked them to reset my password and I'm still waiting 3 days later, the reset password tool does not work. They did send me a password in a response to my inquiries that does not work.
