The brilliance of Twitter is how simple it is: It's a low barrier to entry to post and without the fluff of additional features. Simplicity is king.

I wonder how many FB/Twitter users use the auto update to FB from Twitter updates? How much of Twitter's overall volume is ALSO FB volume?

I would be very interested to find out what percentage of people update their FB status with Twitter. I'm seeing it on a ton of people's profiles now-a-days...

The Facebook app 'selective Twitter status' allows you to choose which tweets update your Facebbok status using the #fb hash tag.

I'm content thumbing my BlackBerry to the Facebook application, mousing to a text box and typing in my update. I don't think I'll use this SMS option.

As for the second half and edging toward Twitter, I'm with brandweaver on the simple things of online life.

Yes I prefer direct updates also. I have seperate applications for Twitter, and the BlackBerry Facebook application.

Facebook 1.5 was just released by the way if you haven't gotten it already. Not a big difference, but the new features are nice.

Has brandweaver mentions the simplicity of Twitter is what makes it so attractive to main stream media and users around the world. That said, Facebook is at least making the attempt to close the gap.

facebook will be fine... and Twitter will be even better. What truly distinguishes Twitter from facebook is the 140 char limit.... as TweetDeck (and many other status managers) can update both statuses, the only difference is in the character limit. I wouldn't be surprised if facebook implements a max char functionality, as they obviously seem to adapt to the competition very quickly.

I would not comment on twiterizing FB by adding sms features but rather suggest a very different point of view-->sms is the universal language of mobile populaion at large and if FB(or Tw)want to tap into it they need to face the fact that shoe_horning a web SN into a mobile phone is hard and in any case SMS is the main entrance. At peoplesound (I guess 'cause we are European thus mobile centric)we actually built our SN from the cellphone and SMS is in from beginning to end of user experience.

You can activate Facebook mobile with a mobile on the Virgin network. Just put in your number and select 'O2' as the network and it activates. You can only receive texts though, not send. Facebook mobile will turn off every 30 days or so (presumably because you can't send any texts so it thinks you are inactive) so you'll need to activate it again.

Though I love my iPhone to bits and use it daily, I really just use it as a stopgap between times at my desk and primarily for Twitter as messaging is so brief anyway. I much prefer to use Facebook on my main computer with the big screen and touch typing. Too funny, though, I really don't see any competition between Facebook and Twitter - they're both very different experiences and fulfill different needs. ;)

My only trouble with FB on my BB is that I get all the notifications twice. I get a text message, AND the notification from the actual FB app. It's pretty annoying, but I haven't figured out how to turn it off yet.

Just teach, assist, advise, and give as much as you can.It will come back to you multiplied.
