Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Facebook CFO Leaving the Company; IPO Imminent?

  • palta · 8 months ago
Even if Facebook went public, who would buy the stock? They have been hemorrhaging cash every since the website began. What's going to change that?

Adam, is there any information available regarding what Yu's next "adventure" will be?
  • Mark · 8 months ago
I wish www.buzzmoi.com can do the same lol

it would be great to see if facebook can get there numbers in the black before the IPO. like google did.

I'd love to see this, if for no other reason than for a real market value to be established for Facebook.

I'd still rather put on the Long Twitter / Short Facebook trade if I had the chance. I agree with Fred Wilson at Union Square Ventures - there really needs to be some kind of secondary market for pre-ipo tech companies.

have you checked out intrade? they have futures contracts on when Facebook will IPO. Not exactly what you're looking for, but kinda cool.
  • Jeff · 8 months ago
Thanks Adam - yeah not what I'm looking for but still interesting, much appreciated!
  • Screen Sleuth · 8 months ago
Yeah, it would be interesting, but would it be sustainable as a business model? Enough to invest in it? That's the real question.

I find it unlikely that Facebook will be testing the IPO waters with the global economy in freefall. The market goes up and down like a yoyo nearly every day and those aren't conditions that a company looking to go public wants to be test. It will be interesting to watch though.

IPO is great, cause markets will go more bullish soon! Bottom is there.
We at http://www.spirofrog.de would buy that FB Stock :-)

As Michael Arrington correctly points out on TechCrunch, Yu was previously Senior Vice President of Finance at Yahoo (after it became a public company) so the given explanation by Facebook for his departure SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AT FACE VALUE

Yep. A bit of lazy reporting not to connect those dots, IMO.

Crystal ball predictions: Facebook goes public, doesn't make enough money, slaps more ads everywhere (Or something similar), starts to annoy (keeps annoying?) more users leaving the doors wide open to the next challenger to take over the lead as the social networking site of choice.

This could be a completely rubbish prediction, obviously. When was the last time you looked in a crystal ball and turned out to be right?

Maybe Yu should get on with Centered Magazine! Supposedly its going to be the next big hit. Its suppose to be compared to a Facebook, Monster, and Online Magazine all in one site. I have been tracking them for about 3 weeks and they are really starting to make lead way. See what you think. www.centeredmag.com

Hmmm. Does that mean they'd have someone there who actually responses to emails begging for help?
  • Tedeks · 8 months ago
Going to be real interesting if they choose to go public. With the economy the way it is, it will be interesting to see what happens. Would be interested to see the IPO price.
  • Adam Ostrow · 8 months ago
my guess is that it will actually have a higher value going public than private investors are currently willing to give it. hype = retail investors plowing money in, at least initially ...
  • Wisewinston · 8 months ago
    Agreed

Facebook investors want a liquidity event, and although the IPO markets are in the morgue, a #Facebook public offering, will likely be a big test....stay tuned..

    did obama fire him?

I would love to see this. It would be a huge opportunity to make a lot of money shorting a stock!
