I love the idea that Governor Schwarzenegger is soliciting ideas from the public. It is cool that there is a website where people can discuss the ideas and that people can use Twitter to submit them.
I notice that the only way to submit ideas is through Twitter. There doesn't seem an easy way to submit them on the website where they are being discussed. I wonder if Twitter is so prevalent and the demographics are sufficiently representative in California, that they shouldn't have any qualms about limiting participation to those with Twitter accounts (as opposed to making Twitter one of many channels to provide ideas into the system for discussion).

I think it's a novel approach to social design, and am pretty psyched that Arnold is trying it out. Getting crowd sourced ideas and other user feedback immediately is something government has rarely (never?) done before. I'm certainly impressed with the decision to use twitter and disqus ( a great comment management system).

I can see what Arnold is trying to do. He has to cut spending and the unions are not going to let him do it without a huge media slur. He has to determine popular concensus about what he should cut. A good way to do that is by using twitter to guage which ideas come in over and over. No matter what he does, he is going to take a hit. At least he will get some feel for what is more supported than not.
