This change in policy will do very little to change the way that consenting adults hook up on the internet, it will simply change the website people use to do so. As Craigslist has placed increasing barriers like fees and restrictions for those wishing to post in their erotic section, competing sites in the space like Naughty Reviews, which offers free classified ads, have grown significantly. My point is that law enforcement is simply wasting resources with this current campaign as stopping the world’s oldest profession is just not possible in today’s day and age.

If anything, Law enforcement is helping Craigslist make money from their Adult classified ads by being the catalyst for their new revenue generating adult services scheme...And it will generate revenue, otherwise CL wouldn't be keeping the smut alive on their site instead of letting the section die...

It's not up to Craigslist to police the internet. I can't find any fault in them doing something to cover their proverbial butts. The reason why Craigslist is as successful as they are (although, as noted in another Mashable post, could be more successful) is because of the Democratic nature and laissez-faire policy of letting users police themselves...you know, act like big boys and girls. Aside from the erotic services troubles, it's worked pretty well. A change in name but not policy it might be, but I think that's the whole point.

The Craigslist thing is puritanical B.S. Sex is a personal choice. The role of govt is to protect individuals from harm, not push one man's religion/values on others.
Religious beliefs are fine and good - problem comes in when you use government to push your religious views on everyone else.
Having sex in implicit exchange for expensive gifts is perfectly legal. Having sex in exchange for a lavish lifestyle and expensive cars is legal. There is nothing wrong with exchanging sex for money.
This is all just religious based puritanical leftovers that is wasting an enormous amount of law enforcement resources. Those resources could much better be used tracking down sex offenders.
Most crime attributed to prostitution is caused BY the laws to outlaw it. They just pretend it isn't happening, and result in no oversight, no safety for clients/providers, mob rule.
Remember Spitzer... Govt prosecutors run for mayor, etc. Follow the money and see who tries to get elected to what cushy job on this "achievement". The Spitzer outing was great just to show the hypocrisy - because of how many sex-for-money cases he helped prosecute.

It's not just sex trade "pros" but amateurs looking to hook up on Craig's list and I do feel somewhat sorry for them, 'tho I suppose there are plenty of other outlets. I agree it's just a gesture to ward off the evil lawsuit spirits

Craigslist, you let yourself get bullied. You were at no legal risk and the heading adult services still lends itself to be a prime spot for prostitution, the players will just have to be more creative in their wording.
Waste of time, but not a big deal, there are better sites like eros and http://www.tnareview.com that are better anyways.
