Yer a cool guy Drew Carey. Class, all the way.
  • mybrutegame · 2 months ago
I agree 100%. Drew Carey has a ton of class and deserves this great publicity.
  • John E. Bredehoft (Empoprises) · 2 months ago
I just followed @DrewFromTV - One thing that you can say about the celebrity participants on Twitter is that there are some of them that will use their fame to support charitable causes - @aplusk obviously comes to mind here.

    $25,001. Just Kidding, of course!
If I could afford it I would.

isn't it against Twitter's TOS to deal in Twitter URL's?
  • drewolanoff · 2 months ago
It's not being "sold" for "personal gain" per Terms of Service. The donation is going to the Lance Armstrong Foundation LIVESTRONG - and I am giving them the name.

if you read the article you would have seen the mention "with twitters blessing" meaning this was cleared in advance.
  • Liam Daly · 2 months ago
Not for personal gain its for charity! Hasn't Twitter said they are supporting this or something
  • dailybragger · 2 months ago
Drew has Twitter's blessing. They got Twitter's permission.
  • Outsanity · 2 months ago
$25k is WAY over the retail value price.

There is a simple way to explain this. BS
  • James Bressi · 2 months ago
    BS = Bob Saget? =P

What the heck... we are selling Twitter names now. Are we going to have to have ICANN step in for Twitter ID registration or resell?

Why not find something more tangible to auction off... or how about donating for the good of humanity instead.
  • drewolanoff · 2 months ago
It's not being "sold" for "personal gain". A donation is being made directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation LIVESTRONG by the winning bidder.
  • Liz · 2 months ago
User names have already been sold in the past (I can provide examples) but this is a donation going to charity...that sounds like a cause that is for the good of humanity.

Drew seems to be an awesome guy who supports charities. Bidding ends on November 9th, this is exciting and I'm super happy to get such a cool birthday present by way of substantial donation to a foundation who has helped me a great deal during my fight.
  • FrankReed · 2 months ago
Drew - Along with this great gift there are people who will be praying for you. I am a Boston College grad and this weekend's BC standing for Beat Cancer (due to football player Mark Herzlich's fight with Ewing's Sarcoma) shows just how we can band together and make a difference. Hang tough, Drew and kudos to Drew Carey.

Tip: Did you know that there's an Spanish version of Twitter? It's birddi.com. It's awfully like Twitter, so I'm not convinced about the security of the site. Is it a project by Twitter or a third company?
  • Marileeh · 2 months ago
Qué es Birddi? Where is Birddi?
  • Ben Lang · 2 months ago
    wow this is insane!
  • Tonny · 2 months ago

Isn't it against Twitter TOC to buy or sell users name on twitter? Or maybe it just depend on who you are.
  • Liz · 2 months ago
It's not being sold. A donation is being made to a charitable foundation and @Drew is giving up his rights to the name, free of charge.
  • unveiled · 2 months ago

  • arnoldpollak · 2 months ago

There is something wrong with http://twitter.com/DrewFromTV/status/4592866731 that charitable donations will increase if Twitter followers increase. Will Drew be manually blocking spammers that opt to follow and thereby "game" the pending donation? And what does that say for new Twitter users or Drew Carey fans, that the key is not in Twitter content but in followers? Everybody joined Twitter when Oprah tweeted, everyone became her fan, and look how often she tweets.

Drew tweets differently than Oprah, but the principle remains. Charity aside, I don't appreciate money being donated as a direct result of increased followers. That's like Ashton vs CNN all over again, and goes against the purpose of the social tool.

I don't have the funds for the auction but I will follow you Drew. Hope you reach 100,000. Great Idea.!
  • C. Sieker · 2 months ago
I had to think about this one. auctioning your @twittername for charity or potential investment money. Figures 7-Attitudes
