I've been using a firefox plugin called Fast Video Download which seems to do what it says. Haven't quite got the hang of converting them yet, vlc seems to mess up the beginnings but perhaps mencoder can do a better job when I take the time to figure out how to use it.

I just open the application window in Safari and double click the stream. That downloads the FLV file to the desktop (although you usually have to rename it.)
This seems to work on that tv-links site as well, although I didn't download a whole show.
Pete, what's the legality of these services? Didn't Techcunch get a C&D from youTube for posting about a similar tool?

I have got the best way to download YouTube and any other web videos to your PC then onto your Mobile or handheld device. Follow these steps and I garrentee you will be watching your favorite clips wherever you want in NO TIME at all. First you need to be using Internet Explorer7. 1.Download Internet explorer7 PRO for free at www.iepro.com (this add-on is brilliant in its own right, it adds quite alot of new functions that you might only of found on mozilla firefox. its great i definatly recommend it) 2.Read about it and instal.once installed go into settings and tick the check box for video download (includes google video,plus loads more) and or youtube download. 3. when you view a video now there should be a link in the clip discription saying 'DOWNLOAD' 4. Right click and select save target as. 5. when prompted save as .flv file(note: you have to type this in yourself ie; VIDEONAME.flv .click save. 6. now the clip is saved in the destination you choose as an .flv file. 7. Now you have to download a converter. I use TOTAL VIDEO CONVERTER. I promise this one is fantastic, you can convert to nearly ANY format you choose and it has tons of other functions You will find the link to download this from the ie7pro website in the how to download videos section, it is one of there recommended links, plus it is a months free trial and i am sure after trial you will purchase because it is great. 8. Once TOTAL VIDEO CONVERTER is downloaded and installed click on NEW TASK a pop up file search will appear. locate the .flv file and open. 9. Now the converter will ask you what format you want to convert to. It has a wealth of options from every mobile phone operators file types to every other format you can think of. I use a nokiaN73 so I would click on Nokia then N73 symbian. the file type for my phone is MPG4, but you should choose the file that suites your mobile. 10. Now select the destination you want the finished converted file to be saved in. This is located at the bottom of the converter as a button with ... on it. 11. now press convert. 12. now you have your downloaded video converted to the right format to suit you phone. as i said i use a nokia but if you use a different type of phone you will have to use your mobile computer software to transfere files from your PC to your PHONE. 13. Using a Nokia you have to have installed on your computer the nokia pc suite which should of come with your phone when you purchased it. 14. click windows start then click computer then click on nokia phone browser.(make sure your phone is connected to the PC) 15. open up the location you want the video to be saved in the nokia phone browser. 16. then simply drag and drop the converted MPG4 file and it will transfer to your phone. 17. you may have to right click then click refresh and the video should now be on your phone.
THIS SOUNDS LIKE QUITE ALOT OF STEPS BUT I PROMISE ONCE YOU MASTER IT, YOU WILL BE DOWNLOADING AND TRANSFERING FILES IN NO TIME AT ALL JUST LIKE ME. What I am using for download YouTube video is, TuBot. ( http://tinyurl.com/yvnouh ) It supports automatical bach processing of bookmarks from web browser, and it has capability of MP3/MP4/MPG/AVI conversion and MP3 tag processing.
TuBot also has firefox extension for YouTube video download. It simply uses "right button click menu" to que the YouTube video page, that you are just looking at, into TuBot downloads.

Trying to find a YT downloader I had before doing a Restore, installed it in March, now can't find it.
Was free, could search YT vids, returned small windows of the vids, you could add them to the download list, and would download them order, with an option to view at the same time. Showed the progress, and kept the list there, did not need to paste URLs.
Was a grey skin app. Can't remember the name, I think downloaded in flv then converted to avi in a separate pass.

First you need to be using Internet Explorer7. 1.Download Internet explorer7 PRO for free at www.iepro.com (this add-on is brilliant in its own right, it adds quite alot of new functions that you might only of found on mozilla firefox. its great i definatly recommend it)
2.Read about it and instal.once installed go into settings and tick the check box for video download (includes google video,plus loads more) and or youtube download.
3. when you view a video now there should be a link in the clip discription saying 'DOWNLOAD'
4. Right click and select save target as.
5. when prompted save as .flv file(note: you have to type this in yourself ie; VIDEONAME.flv .click save.
6. now the clip is saved in the destination you choose as an .flv file.
7. Now you have to download a converter. I use TOTAL VIDEO CONVERTER. I promise this one is fantastic, you can convert to nearly ANY format you choose and it has tons of other functions
You will find the link to download this from the ie7pro website in the how to download videos section, it is one of there recommended links, plus it is a months free trial and i am sure after trial you will purchase because it is great.
8. Once TOTAL VIDEO CONVERTER is downloaded and installed click on NEW TASK a pop up file search will appear. locate the .flv file and open.
9. Now the converter will ask you what format you want to convert to. It has a wealth of options from every mobile phone operators file types to every other format you can think of. I use a nokiaN73 so I would click on Nokia then N73 symbian. the file type for my phone is MPG4, but you should choose the file that suites your mobile.
10. Now select the destination you want the finished converted file to be saved in. This is located at the bottom of the converter as a button with ... on it.
11. now press convert.
12. now you have your downloaded video converted to the right format to suit you phone. as i said i use a nokia but if you use a different type of phone you will have to use your mobile computer software to transfere files from your PC to your PHONE.
13. Using a Nokia you have to have installed on your computer the nokia pc suite which should of come with your phone when you purchased it.
14. click windows start then click computer then click on nokia phone browser.(make sure your phone is connected to the PC)
15. open up the location you want the video to be saved in the nokia phone browser.
16. then simply drag and drop the converted MPG4 file and it will transfer to your phone.
17. you may have to right click then click refresh and the video should now be on your phone.
THIS SOUNDS LIKE QUITE ALOT OF STEPS BUT I PROMISE ONCE YOU MASTER IT, YOU WILL BE DOWNLOADING AND TRANSFERING FILES IN NO TIME AT ALL JUST LIKE ME. I RECCOMEND YOU HAVE ADAQUATE MEMORY ON YOUR PHONE BECAUSE THE FILES CAN BE QUITE LARGE. I ONLY USE A 1G CARD AND I GET LOADS ON THAT.
