Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Digg Founder Launches WeFollow, A User-Generated Twitter Directory

  • milestinsley · 8 months ago
It's disappointing to see another Twitter directory that appears to put so much emphasis on number of followers. This is only going to perpetuate the already-thriving popularity contest, making it harder to find new people to follow.

It's time to focus on quality content, not just pure numbers, if we are going to get the most out of Twitter...

I definitely understand the sentiment, which is why I made note that# of followers isn't always the best way to organize users. Hopefully they'll come up with other methods.

Absolutely agree. I personally like to find people to follow via current followers and through interaction. Word-of-mouth is still king, in my opinion. Quality over quantity. I don't personally find this that useful. If anything, it'll give me a start, but I surely won't base who I want to follow from WeFollow.

It certainly is easy to add yourself. Only takes a few seconds to send the tweet to get listed so that is nice.

Another nice Twitter directory is Tweeple Pages. Allows for more than 3 interests.

I signed up as soon as he tweeted it yesterday. I always check out these things to see which ones have any value. Needless to say, I had a bunch of new followers this morning.
It seems like a decent idea and when you have an internet goldenboy pushing it, there will be some extra momentum.

A for effort, D for nice try.

There's a gozillian services out there and what makes me want to use this one? So I can follow all the superstars in their respective categories only to have zero interaction with any of them?!

I played around for a few minutes and in every category there were 'elite' twitterer's that were repeated in many categories.

This may be for some, for me... complete waste of time.

I ain't gonna dig this... you can if you want?!

Looks good and simple, I think we're reaching an overload of Twitter'esque based services..

Have to drop this into the mix. I’d like for you all to check out HYPick.com - An easy way to post, share and discus with others in various categories.

The most active topics are promoted to HYPick’s homepage.

No good vote, bad vote ranking system. Just real people participation.
Increase your audience, post your content!

Keep up the amazing work on this site and Thanks for reading :)

Sounds like an up-and-coming directory. I look forward to "getting the hang of it". I love networking ~ one day I will make money. Do not make a vow of poverty w/o very good reason; for, it is difficult to end it, even decades later. I like Mashable and Digg. Above all, I love to tell the world what I approve.

I like WeFollow, I personally use it all the time to see who are the leaders in each category.

    Has anyone ever tried FlashTweet.com?

Been on twitter for about 3 weeks. I have seen a moderate boost in traffic. Mostly traffic from people just browsing for more followers, but traffic none the less. Next step: learning how to build a stronger network and convert these additional eyeballs in to fans and sales. come check me out.
