People obsessed with backgrounds are missing the real point -- Twitter is about making meaningful connections. Quality, not quantity. And the people using Twitter to make those meaningful connections? Most use alternate Twitter clients and will never see your background anyway.
Covering this nonsense gives too much credibility to a shoddy idea.
Horrible implementation. You need firefox and an Add On to see these links.
I'd prefer a static page. Twitter is not MySpace (yet)
I think twitter should add this feature and charge for it.
This sounds pretty cool. I don't mind adding a plugin, I've already got a couple for other features that make Twitter more functional. Like the Bitly Preview plugin that shows the cloaked link and click stats and Power Twitter adds a half a dozen or so extras to Twitter.
The best thing I can think of to get around the add on requirement is to get the word out. The more people using this themselves means more that will be set up to click on your page. I'll definitely tweet about it a few times. B)>
So, a better alternative is an add on that can recognize links in ALL images, like android's bar code scan.

My concern with this, is I tried to install a lot of times and not making progress.
What a waste of time and money, find that business case and scribble 'Will not work on the front' before they waste more money!
More link options are definitely needed in Twitter, particularly in the bio section of the sidebar, but it will only be good when Twitter itself enables this. Everything else is going to be just "off" from what is needed, particularly for less savvy users.
Pay? You would have to pay me to waste my time installing this useless service.
Who will be the first to 'Unlock' the Links on Twitter for the rest of us?
You know it's coming...
It's a nice idea, but I don't think it can be done without the massive flaw of people having to have the same add-on.
Kudos!
It's amazing! It's the first thing you see below the header.
I'm the developer for ClickableNow. Thanks to Jennifer for writing this article, but I did want to clarify a few things. You can view ClickableNow links for FREE. You don't pay anything for the ClickableNow viewer.
ClickableNow has been tested with the following browsers:
Firefox
IE
Google Chrome
Opera
There is a ClickableNow add-on for Firefox. We also have an add-on for Internet Explorer, and there is a Greasemonkey script that has been tested with Google Chrome and Opera. The Greasemonkey script should also work with other browsers that support Greasemonkey (such as Safari). This is a very simple add-on. You install it, forget it and go.
Many people have chimed in with their first impressions. I wasn't bullish on the idea when I was first introduced to it either. I didn't even have a Twitter background. That all changed for me when I started viewing clickable backgrounds. For the first time in my two years with Twitter, I loaded up a background. After I created the clickable links, the background became an important part of my profile. I think it's pretty cool. Give it a try first, and then I'd love to hear your feedback.
For me the price point is to high for a service that needs many people to subscribe before it's of value. The launch with a free or limited time offer would've been a better idea.

I think the idea is great. Sure the downloading a script part is a hurdle. Maybe in the future it will be wrapped into a much more common FF download so more people will have it...or even incorporated into FF 4.0. I'm gonna definitely keep an eye on ClickableNow and see what they come up with in the future. I applaud them for their efforts thus far!

I am for one glad that this company saw a need, though outside of the box, and delivered a product to help....
Thanks
