Mashable - The Social Media Guide: CardStar’s iPhone App Eliminates the Need for Membership Cards

Been great for me, never forget my phone, I do grab the wrong set of keys. Best part, no more carrying the "porcupine" of membership cards around on a key ring. - Excellent App

Wow! Thats gonna be so covenient, will not have to find those grocery cards while leaving home again.

Its an interesting app. But what about the safety aspect? What if you lose your phone? How does one ensure that the information is not used by someone else?

This strikes me immediately as huge. As a former journalist, question: ``How do you do the WAVE thing comprehensively one day and then deliver this ``sleeper'' story the next day.'' This is real world, man. The current programs are too fractured to be effective. However, along with Apple, I would be looking toward Revolutionaries who will or already doing the same thing. Is it computer companies or financial services companies that own this idea? Finally, how far do you care to take this idea out? On a slow news day do such going concerns as these fundamentally change consumer economics? In what ways?

@Tina, the same way you protect your contacts, email, calendar and notes: you lock your iPhone.

Been doing this since Day 1 of the iPhone: scanned my cards, put them in a photo album in alphabetical order and shazam, my wallet is an inch thinner and keychain at least a few ounces lighter.

This is certainly going to make my wallet lighter. Glad I was able to get it for free!

    CardStar doesn't work. Simply useless...

I got this app and tried to use it at the store (BestBuy). It failed to scan. I tried it again at the Safeway. It failed to scan. I guess it isn't really ready for primetime.

Costco which was a listed merchant told me I had to have the card!!?? I knew this was too good to be true...

    Any one have a solution?

What would be really useful is if it could let people swap barcodes so the consumer tracking technology would be flooded with bad data.

I've tried this at CVS and at Stop & Shop, both automated scanners, yet to get the app to work.

unique idea - yes. potential? not really that much. this may or may not work... its defintely not mass market. if you're looking to get into iphone development and you have not yet found a well structured online training program, then check out the iphone course offered at www.EDUmobile.ORG

I have tried two different locations (Office Depot and my local library) and neither were able to scan the card from my iphone. I like the concept, but met resistance at both locations to even trying to scan my iphone. The fact it didn't scan was not helpful.
