I really like card.ly. I have been using it for over a week and have added it to my Google signature and elsewhere. I still use retaggr on my blog and http://contxts.com/ from my cell.

    My card.ly = http://card.ly/dmgerbino

Ben, I agree, business cards need to go the way of the dinosaur, although they do make good book marks.

check out http://www.retaggr.com for another mature option in this space.

    fantastic & timely concept.
a much superior and more stylish version of other digital options going around.
the premium option with analytics might be a little over priced at US $3 a month but has great features.

This is very cool, but the designs don't support large numbers of social identities. Meaning, I had to reduce the number of social networks to 10 as any more than that would run off of the design I chose. I tried several and got the same results.

Not that you NEED to share ALL of your networks, but it sort of seems like that's the point.

    What do you think?
  • Morris Levy · 4 months ago
Wrong. There are different layouts. I am using "Dark Blue" and I have 18 displayed. Example --> http://card.ly/morrislevy
    Enjoy.
  • Rob McBryde · 4 months ago
Well, I only tried 3 or so and got the same result. It was late. :)

This is the best social media stumble ever. I have signed up for a free account, tied everything together in a matter of minutes, and now I can use it as an e-mail signature. So awesome. Thank you Mashable! :D

Card.ly is wonderful and I look forward to them improving and expanding their service. I made the recommendation to them weeks ago that they add a space for Google Voice users to place their click to call flash widgets. I have one and certainly would prefer to place my button on my page than my phone number just to have it crawled. None of the services PeoplePond, Dandy.ID, or even Retaggr provide places for your GV flash widget. Then neither does Facebook or Myspace to my knowledge. As much press as GV has been getting lately, you'd think someone in the virtual business card space would be on this. Interestingly, Google doesn't even include a place for the widget on Google Profiles, so it might just really be me.
  • giggsey · 4 months ago
I must have missed that suggestion recently when looking through the list. I'll have a look at the widgets and see if we can add them into the profiles. It doesn't help that Google Voice isn't in my country yet...

I wouldn't worry about it too much, Google missed it too. Still a great service and I hope you can get it or a near equivalent soon.

    much love for @cardly!

I wasn't so keen on the interface for theme selection. I found it hard to use and a bit jerky. Otherwise, the interface is great.

Interesting initiative, but I prefer telnic's .tel. It's the same price (or maybe even cheaper) and has a lot more to offer e.g. a 'go to' function within your domain (location, hobby's, whatever you like), possibility to include all contact information, keywords, etc., and findable by search engines like dottelfinder or telopedia.com (and google, yahoo, etc. of course). Telsites are a brand new development too, and really has great potential.
If interested (I'm not an employee of Telnic's, only an enthousiastic owner of .tel domains like www.edje.tel), you can visit: www.telnic.org or www.telyourself.com.

Sorry I posted twice by accident :(

While the idea is great indeed, I am not sure whether or not I am going to use it. I think owning a domain related to my personal brand and leaving all the links to my profiles there on a googleable page is efficient enough.

I didn't know about card.ly but it really looks very interesting. I think ill start using it instead of my facebook only card. Thanks for the useful post.

I almost hate to comment since I am going to say pretty much the same thing others have said but I LOVE card.ly so have to show my support. I've only used it for a couple of weeks but their design options is by far the best available right now. I didn't have a personal website until the last couple of days so this was a great option for me to give people one place to learn more about me and where I'm at on the web. Looking forward to new features in the future.

Interesting application for sharing social media information. Our company is new to the space and we'll definitely have a look to see if this helps us "share ourselves" more effectively.

I think the virtual business card is a great idea. I wish I had thought of it first. Keep up the good work. What a great Marketing Tool for on the net.

Just finished the whole process successfully and i love the results. (Took me 15 minutes all together) http://card.ly/fuentedance just cool.
  • Vanessa Capozzi · 4 months ago
Great idea! Unfortunately the process of setting up the card is "less than" user-friendly and counter intuitive. Hopefully over time that'll improve. Really love the idea!

Tim Van Damme did it better first.
  • Dean · 4 months ago
    Couldn't possibly agree more.

If you like this, then you NEED to check Tim's site - http://timvandamme.com/ and make sure you check the wall of fame (and have a laugh at the wall of shame) to see how others have done it.

This is a great start, and certainly more than a little bit inspired by Tim's work, and I'm curious to see how/if this gets any better.

...and very soon there will be OnePage.me. Similar, but with a slightly different angle. Just some final touches to go before launch.
