Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Brace Yourself, Here Comes Another Unfair iPhone App Rejection

  • christyxcore · 6 months ago
Not surprising anymore. Apple is way too inconsistent..
  • Matt Seliga · 6 months ago
Sounds inconsistent. But not surprising at all....
  • Matt · 6 months ago
    WHAT?!

    That is ridiculous!

    Hmph
  • jamy015 · 6 months ago
Apple's whole app policy is ridiculous.
  • Shultzman · 6 months ago
It's a good thing that the EFF never sues anybody because... Oh wait....
  • TipsBox · 6 months ago
that is why i like to share iPhones applications free

  • Matt Seliga · 6 months ago
sound really inconsistent....not really surprising, though...
  • thechexican · 6 months ago
So, who's going to spearhead the movement where tech enthusiasts and developers demand Apple's head on a stick? Or a revision of the app policy? Or at least some accountability?
  • techsupport · 6 months ago
Doesn’t that mean that the same video can be found via the iPhone’s YouTube application?
  • Renee Rozario · 6 months ago
All I can say is oh wow!
  • The Dude · 6 months ago
    Payback is a bitch.
  • Arthur Sabintsev · 6 months ago
Not an iphone user here, but this is just ridic. at this point. I wonder what the TRUE *underlying* motive is for this ban.
  • Steve · 6 months ago
Someone tries to have morals and you all slam them into the ground. Apple can't restrict YouTube from doing whatever it wants, but it can have control over the content it approves.
    Good for them.
  • Sean Gaffney · 6 months ago
Morals? Then explain why Apple has approved countless apps that allow you to oggle naked women.
  • Raj Patel · 6 months ago
Jeese, guys. Get over it. It's not exactly news that apple is closed minded and overly rigid with control of it's products and how they're used.
  • coxy · 6 months ago
I think Apple need to be pulled up on this by someone; Microsoft get accused all the time of unfair practice - a fine example is being criticized for having Internet Explorer installed as the default browser on Windows and there being no way to completely uninstall this.

I'd love to see Opera Mini on the Apple iPhone. I believe Opera Software have a working version for the iPhone, but they won't submit it to the App Store because it violates Apple's terms when it comes to matching their competing product of Safari web browser.

well, fuck (hope this doesn't get your iphone app banned)

With 30,000 apps, they have rooms full of monkeys reviewing apps. They rejected my app for having a "urination" sound clip on the same week they approved an app dedicated to urination.

    Monkeys. That explains everything.
  • bryanbartow · 6 months ago
This about sums up the situation. No offense, but they probably have a room full of high school dropouts "reviewing" apps. It's no wonder this stuff goes down.
  • Faisal · 5 months ago
I like the idea of monkeys sitting in the apple facility doing all the crazy stuff with a bunch of iphones. hehe it is an amusing imagination.

I have recently launched two applications. I just hope the monkeys accidentally hit the approve button LOL!

Never ascribed to malice what can easily be explained by incompetence.

Apple's whole app policy is stupid
  • Jorgie · 6 months ago
Actually, this is not arbitrary at all. This app allows someone to access YouTube videos outside of their own app. It isn't arbitrary at all it's about killing apps that compete with their own stuff. Which makes the approval of the Skype app all the more befuddling to me.
  • Al · 6 months ago
We covered this on http://www.appgiveaway.com its madness how they can refuse this app, I suggest he trys awith the App Store again maybe they will have a change of heart, lots of apps on AppGiveaway.com to giveaway.
  • Anthony · 6 months ago
Could it be that Apple doesn't want the easy access to derogatory language. Yes you can use safari and the Youtube app to view the same stuff. Put that involves several more steps to complete the process. In addition, those to apps allow access to the whole internet. This app doesn't.

I'm ok with criticizing apple where it makes sense. This isn't a good example of arbitrary rejection.

    Gotta love this one:

I am sorry but I do not understand your explanation. The following 5 top 50 apps in the games category all reference the price in their description in the same exact manner as we have. Please help me to understand this. Thank you.

    World Cup Ping Pong
    Sally's Spa
    Rollercoaster Rush
    Amateur Surgeon
    Blimp-The Flying Adventures

Please include the line below in follow-up emails for this request.

    Follow-up: XXXXXXX

    Dear XXXX,

Thank you for submitting XXXXX to the App Store. We've reviewed XXXXX and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPhone application to the App Store because your application contains pricing information in the icon and/or marketing text (Application Description / Release Notes). Providing specific pricing information in these locations may lead to user confusion because of pricing differences in countries. It would be appropriate to remove pricing information from these locations.

Once the necessary modifications are completed, please let us know so we can proceed with the review.

    Regards,

    iPhone Developer Program
