The service also gave me a complimentary subscription which my mom likes - http://www.bestsum.com - which has self-help, motivational, Dr. Phil-ish book summary collection.

FrugalReader's search engine is slower than molasses in deep winter. When I do a search I don't think I should have to play solitare to pass the time while the search engine is seeking an answer. Paperbackswap.com has been efficient.
I will however check out the other swap sites listed here to see the possibilities.

You should check out www.swaptree.com. They allow you to trade books, cds, dvds and video games for free. The coolest site on the internet.

http://www.bookwormr.com is a new website and is a great place to list the books you've read and see what other people are reading. You can read and write reviews, make friends and give books a rating.

There's even a facebook plugin which puts the books your currently reading on your facebook profile.

Book Search & exchange has Bookins.com which charges $3.99 for each trade but FrugalReader.com has no fee to join or to trade. It's a very friendly book trading community and should be included on future viersions of this list. It's smaller than PaperBackSwap.com but more user-friendly.

Wow. You utterly missed AllConsuming, the 43signals site for consumption (including books). As an avid reader I'd say it's the best community out there for readers, period. And it's even well-known.

I personally use Book Cost, it's been around a lot longer and looks up love prices instead of feed prices, so it often finds more accurate prices.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, there are a million sites, but like for the old Code Complete Book Cost had the best price correct:

You might also want to add http://www.FictionDB.com and http://www.bookbrowse.com to your list. FictionDB has tons of lists of author's books, new releases, series, stuff like that. BookBrowse is great for reading groups.

Check out your local library's webpage, most are converting to electronic format and in some cases they put up some books in a digital format that can be read or viewed online. Popular books as well that are in the public domain.

Also you missed out on http://books.google.com or http://scholar.google.com which houses a lot of books in free digital format.
