I'm starting to wonder if developer's are going a little AR crazy. There's another AR app which was added in an update yesterday. I thought it was a joke at first but it isn't; check out the app Cheap Gas. It now shows the stations prices and logo on a tag when pointed in their direction. The developer's are calling the feature "Cyborg" I think it's free too.

This is just GPS. I'm waiting for optical recognition, and internet look-up. That's when the next tech revolution will really start:

"iphone, what's this?"

Then in a few years... with a small camera bindi on your forehead it could constantly monitor your environment for irregularities and important information. It could tell you if there was a high chance that someone was lying to you, for instance.

When environment recognition starts, that's when the cyborg revolution will begin. Life will start to get pretty freaky.

love this tech, but has anyone else noticed that in all these mobile AR demos, nobody is ever... mobile. That is, they stand in one place and turn around. They never actually use it to try and find what it is they are viewing on their screen...

I wonder what the experience will be for actual consumers/tourists that are trying to find a starbucks in NYC via these apps... is it functional (i.e. does it provide real value for consumers), or just a cool tech toy? I hope it's what it promises, but I'd love to see some real field tests/reviews outta mashable...

This is entirely legal. Yelp has had AR publicly in their 3.1 app since a couple days after 3.1 was released. It's free too :P

Sorry but there's no such rule about AR. Augmented reality is simply augmenting (adding to) the reality, so in this case, adding signs that tell you how far away and in what direction places are. AR is not necessarily about overlaying graphics on top of particular patterns.

Hi there,

I have watched the video, and i don't think this is an AR app. For AR APP's you must point your camera to a pattern, and that deploys the 3D animation.

Here there is not pattern, I think this is a combination between geolocation and 3D. In fact, when the camera is turned left or right, new adds show up determined by the orientation(digital compass i guess).

Anyway, is an interisting application.

Apparently once you buy it you then have to pay more for each category. So says a few 1-star reviews on iTunes. Could have made that a bit clearer!
