This is a great post - I always enjoy seeing people who buck the norm and really make their pages a reflection of their personality.

You can check mine out at http://www.myspace.com/unexpectedbliss. I did the design and a friend of mine did the coding using a div overlay. Don't ask me how he did it - you can view the source code if you're really curious.

We worked with Photoshop and Photobucket but for the next update (I'll try doing the coding on my own) I'll be relying on Dreamweaver.

Think of it as the anti-Mac and thats; what makes it truly amazing.
I've listened to 3-4 new groups every day for the past year and sometimes up to a dozen per day. If I find one that has 4 good songs, I buy their cd.
For that, it is truly amazing and nothing comes close to it.

Yes, Murdoch owns it and yes, it was created by spammers and yes its ugly beyond belief and yes it is running on Windows servers and has horrible technical problems.

It doesnt matter. Ive heard more new and original music of all kinds than I have in my entire life.

I wouldn't say that; I'm a fan of Veerle's site and frequent it quite often. I would say that some design concepts are "borrowed" (including the stripe pattern). But there are layout and color differences (Not up to her level).

Three of those designs do not work in Opera: the first one (displays flat grey page), the beautiful ornamented CSS-based (no scrolling), and Lucio's (also no scrolling).

I'm not sure that I can advocate replacing a passable layout with something that is certainly prettier, but doesn't work properly.

A lot of the layouts mentioned in these comments are COMMERCIAL, "sponsored" pages which don't have to abide by any of the ridiculous limitations of MySpace, so they don't belong here associated with this article. The ones Stan mentioned, however, are top notch. Here's one I think he missed:

Disappointing. Most of these still suck. Just because they don't look like the default Myspace pages doesn't make them better. In fact, I'll prefer the default blue and white to some of these.

Lucio's I actually like.

The rest are loaded with 100kb+ heavy graphics being pulled from all over the place - half of the time not even loading at all and requiring several refreshes.

Agreed. Most of these people have absolutely no coding skills, are not using CSS at all, and no clue of accessibility.

http://myspace.com/andythomas - I was sure this site made good use of CSS, but after checking it's simply just a bunch of images and flash. I think it's a good scheme of layout/font/colors though.

Most of the time, graphic designers (or people who think they are anyway) have no clue about coding/web design, and make the mistake of trying to cram too many pictures/images in one place.

The problem with most of these is that everything is all over the place with useless crap.

If I wanted to look at your 50+ friends, I would click on a link but instead I'm bombarded with pictures of all different sizes.

If I wanted to listen to a song, I would listen from itunes, not your page. At least don't set it to auto play especially when you've covered the controls so I can't turn it off either.

And what you may think is cool isn't functional if I have to guess what button leads where because you didn't bother to label any of them properly.

I have spent all afternoon thoroughly reviewing and editing the code, from Mike D's blog (Sorry to the maker of this site but I wasn't directed to his site by you, I found it myself using Google about 6 hours before I read this). I used his original design and used Photoshop combined with Photobucket for the background and the contact table, whilst changing certain colors in the code to make my Myspace, my own. It isn't as aesthetically pleasing as Mike's but hey for a 14 year old who has never seen CSS code before let alone use it, I think I did a good job (Hey atleast I'm modest, lol).

I really don't get why people would make a myspace design that completely wipes out the myspace content and replaces it all with divs. You could easily just get a free page from some free hosting provider with the same kinds of banners and without the huge headache from the html/css/javascript/EVERYTHING limitations that myspace imposes.

On that note, I tried to make a design that integrates with the myspace content instead of killing it (since anyone can make a beautiful flash or div overlay and slap it on a blank slate), but I started getting huuuuge headaches over cross-browser compatibility and gave up half way through. But I think it still looks decent nonetheless...

Wow, most of the sites in the comments here are fucking abortions.

It's as if the majority of you are colorblind and have absolutely no sense of design or style.

Dark grey text on black backgrounds, layouts with elements that have no sense of positioning, imagemaps (imagemaps are for pussies), and many of you using layout generators and being so noobish as to leave the default generator spam in your code.

There's maybe 5 decent layouts in this whole comment section.
