Believe as a working tax paying citizen that anyone receiving a check from the government should be subject to the same rules as I am at work. First of all Random alchohol and drug screening can't pass means no job means no check (that would cut out 75% of welfare spending right there!) 2nd of all take the money you save from the 1st rule and hire more honest trustworthy people to oversee the ones that are still left on the rolls of welfare and you will soon see that another 15% will soon be cut off that again eliminating people who can work.

Yea, got to love it... the FAQ clearly says $1.99 - but if you go to send one, you guessed it, it says $2.99 to send one!

I'd like to second Thom's post.

And add about it being ironic: one thing I see as differentiating this with what the gov. is doing is that I am able to choose where my money goes. I can choose to, or not to, spend $2.99 on this. Whereas, I am unable to choose where the gov. money goes.

How would you feel if the gov. determined that this $2.99 was "worthwhile" and so something everyone had to spend, then pulled it from your income, regardless.

Consumers suffer, the company wins (short-term, until no one has $2.99 to spend). The irony is that the gov. is the one whose building big lazy, corrupt corporations, and stupid care-free (ie. do not need to make any personal decisions) people by doing this. The very thing it's trying to correct.

Again, lots of talk, and a lot of laughs, about bail outs. But why are we not demanding that the Gov't and the media stand up and champion the entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial spirit that has always helped us create jobs and wealth in this country and beyond.

I realize this post is just about a silly joke site where you can print a bogus check (which is not unlike what the Congress has done... randomly spending money on "things" without real regard to the effectiveness). But there seems to be a silence about the real saviour to the economic woes and that is the people who take risks, create products & services, start companies, create jobs, etc.... We need to quit sitting on the side lines.

The people who read Mashable are the heart of those who understand and strive for entrepreneurship. Why not some noise being made here and on other tech related sites. Why are we not clamouring for attention to be paid to those who can make things happen?

Instead we get posts about fake checks to send your friends? Come on.
