    Great stuff - Look forward to the ReTweet Battle... Competition like this is healthy within Social Media. (RT @MaxRichardson)

    Thanks for the write up, Ben. If you get the chance, change the tweetcount_url in the widget you posted from our BackType Connect blog post to our Tweetcount blog post:

    tweetcount_url = 'http://blog.backtype.com/2009/07/tweetcount-widget-plugin/';

    Or, if you prefer:

    tweetcount_url = 'http://mashable.com/2009/07/06/tweetcount/';

    I'm already thinking about integrating it into my theme, replacing Tweetmeme. Why? I much prefer how it looks.

    Earlier I had blogged about the same thing with a tutorial how to use it in blogger and wordpress - http://chethstudios.blogspot.com/2009/07/add-st...

    I'd like to see backtype and disqus merge - so that users who are logged into disqus will be able to automatically retweet without having to be redirected to twitter. Or backtype should offer an oauth mechanism where users who have a cookie set can bypass going to twitter and stay on the site...I also like how backtype shows not only those who've clicked 'retweet' but also it searches twitter when people use other methods to retweet or share your links..

    Patrick, TweetMeme takes tweets from Twitter too, not just those who click the button

    Oh yes, we do like competition but I'll be sticking with TweetMeMe for the foreseeable and I'm intrigued to see how they respond to this.

    Bah. No innovation and pure copying.

    Why is the default stat profile when clicking the tweet number in the button take you to a backtype page that shows "comments" as the default view instead of Tweets. Seems odd to me but I may be missing something here.
