Sure, Apple can make a tablet....but can they debate?....

Throwdown! The ThinkIndie VS iTunes Debate Challenge.

The up and coming independent music download site ThinkIndie.com, (online arm of the burgeoning ThinkIndieCollective Empire), formally challenge iTunes, (online arm of the already humongous Apple Empire), to a debate over the future of indie music online, aka. "The War of the Words".

I would love to see a laptop that converts to a desktop. I had to choose between the two and spend a lot of freaking time hunched over my laptop!

Look, I'm a die-hard Windows user, and at this point of my life I cannot imagine a single reason to buy a Mac, since it wouldn't enable me to do anything I cannot already (please keep BSOD jokes to yourself; I haven't seen one of those for almost a decade now).

But if Apple released Tommaso Gecchelin' MacBook Touch hinged concept as this new tablet device, I would seriously consider getting one for myself. That's the only idea among those that seems to have anything interesting going for it. That would be revolutionary, the rest are just tablets, you better off just buying the ModBook today, or any of the many Windows tablets available.

I believe this comment should have stopped after "I cannot imagine".
  • DivinoAG · 3 months ago
That was so incredibly clever. I'm impressed (not really).
  • jeffski · 1 month ago
I completely agree, it's a revolutionary concept - tablet, laptop, e-reader and even an electronic sandwich board, all in one.

Thanks for featuring my concept! :)

I am voting for the Tommaso Gecchelin' MacBook Touch hinged concept as this new tablet device is an amazing piece of design and engineering. Imagine the possibilities of this Extra Large Screen used as a laptop, desktop and flat screen multimedia display.

It's time we leave projectors behind and have a tablet that easily becomes a netbook or huge canvas.

The one reason I don't see this coming to be is that Apple won't bet it's money on a touchscreen keyboard just yet...

I agree its a thing of beauty and believe it should be put into prodution asap, if possible.

As for the keyboard. I have gotten use to my iphone in landscape mode now and type much faster compared to my old HTC sliding keyboard. The touch screen keyboard is new and may be awkward at first, but something people can quickly get used to and enjoy. The iphone keyboard is like typing on air with no need to push down.

The hinged thing would never fly. Too kludgey. Too far off of Apple's mental, and design aesthetic. (ie, it's ugly)
As for the first one; the iMac with the built-in dock. Apple already has a patent for this type of design.

The hinged MacBook Touch is a thing of pure beauty. Oh, how I wish that was the real deal.
  • nnb · 4 months ago
Ugh. It looks like something Nokia would design.
And can you imagine the failure rate?

I do love the concept of a wide screen Internet browser or movie player that becomes a NoteBook with full keyboard once folded.

Tommaso Gamelin design is by far the most amazing.

Tommaso Gecchelin's is a BEAUTIFUL concept, if it can be carried out.

I vote for MacFormat's Apple Netbook. Clean, versatile, and would be the 21st century's newspaper, ebook, magazine reader and album cover browser. The stand and keyboard are elegant, understated.

This is the product I want!

Macbook Touch Black is my favourite :)

    1. VERY thin
    2. All screen – 10"
    3. One button +/- volume rocker and power switch

Basically the iPod Touch's big brother. I wish it would run full OSX but that is not likely – it'll be the iPhone/Touch OS. Hopefully more open and more umph. I don't see any IO ports other than a dock connector and audio out jack (it will have a mic and camera (vid & still) built in) – n wireless, blue tooth, +/- 3G data connectivity. Claim 6-8 hr battery but lucky to get 4 hr.

Will I buy it? Hell yes!

haha the one with the SD card slot is a joke...

Definitely the hinged notebook idea. Granted, in it's current form, it's a little too chunky to be Apple-chic, but there's a potential there for that classic Apple-takes-it-and-makes-it-better-by-adding-one-fabulous-feature approach.

It seems to make sense to me that a "MacBook Touch" would be the best way to market this thing. It would be a natural progression of the notebook line. I'm sure in the future Apple will make even larger tablets. If the 17" MacBook Pro is a "desktop replacement" why not give it a touchscreen?
  • pviola · 3 months ago
The concept images are great, they are missing one option that I think would be great to have:
the tablet should be able to connect to a big monitor, becoming itself the keyboard.
  • Lisa · 3 months ago
I love Tommaso's design! Hands down winner, in my opinion. It's most impressive and his idea is so complete. So detailed. I think Apple should use his design. Apple seems to inspire such creativity. They need to harness this creativity and take it to the next level in some way!

Please correct your attribution of the Apple iPad concept. I created this mockup in 2007 and that user posted my mockup as though he/she created it. See my original post:

Love Tommaso Gecchelin's MacBook Touch.... What a magnificent presentation and how innovative! It Apple comes out with that ... you bet, I'm taking out an advance on all my Christmas and birthday gifts from now until I die to get that one!!! I love the versatility of it. The dual screen, the flexibilty, the magic dock.... Wow! Come on Apple, make something like that - it's head over heals betten than anything the competition (if there is any) can come with! Make another Mac-Wonder of the world!

Seesh, you guys really put a lot of hours into guessing what the next mac tablet will be like. Even the iSpine name sounds plausible!

don't want an iPhone and frankly its oversized bastard son doesn't appeal much either.
