I've never been a fan of the Kindle. It's hugely expensive for what it is. I'm still not sure why someone would buy a Kindle. But if Apple can get within $80-$90 of their price tag, Apple will clean up.

I wouldn't call that a tablet just because it has a touch-sensitive screen. Would love it if Apple did come out with a true tablet though -- have been jonesing for one for a while!

Quick thought: I'm guessing OSX (or slight variation) with a few custom apps that attract kindle and netbook users. All is fairly predictable but there will be a few things we won't count on.

Why the lack of an actual keyboard on all of these mock ups? This would be the perfect notebook for graphic designers if it's done properly. I'm just hoping for a macbook pro with a swivel screen just like all other tablets, not an oversized ipod touch.

They already have those. HP, amongst other brands, makes a WACOM specific tablet for faaar less than the 2 thouuusand plus dollars Apple wants to extort from buyers. Got mine for 950, to be specific. And theirs can't even run Photoshop.

Personally, the biggest story around the Tablet is how it forces Apple to define its "matrix" thinking between hardware form factors and software forking decisions (e.g., iPhone OS, Mac OS, hybrid OS, download anything anywhere, exclusively limit to App Store), not to mention the service layer and developer tool inter-connects between same.

This would be perfect for the clients I deal with: contractors. Most of them use PC Tablets in the field and there is NOT a good one on the market that is stable. The programs they mainly use for estimating are Excel and Word, so a touch-screen mac would be awesome! The PC Tablets save contractors time but the hardware is expensive and breaks down a lot!!!
