You will have to install the programs again first, however, but it's not really an issue if you wanted to use a clean install to begin with.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

All OS makers are living in glass houses, always. Hurling rocks is a bad idea. But then the Microsoft marketing team have made some absolutely laughable claims about IE8 recently, so they reap what they sow.

I'm a happy Linux user and my whole business runs Linux workstations. Sure, it's not perfect. Nothing is. But it works well and it costs me nothing.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

Oooh, my; dat's some strong koolaid you be drinking! I have built all our PCs in order not to have them crash all the time unless the OS it self decides to fail which occasionally it will. Price wise if you build a good PC the price is not that much less then a lower end MAC.

WE bought Macs due to us doing a lot of design work that windows is just a PITA to work with. Our Macs do run windows also for some applications I need mostly industry software Mac does not have. We have our PCs run Windows, Linux, and Solaris they all sever their purpose even Microsoft uses Linux servers.

My point is the each OS has its advantages and you should use the one that suites what you need to use best. Buying just for the sake of prices is just ridiculous, one would hope our clients choose us base on more then price.

If I was told I could only buy one type of computer it would be a hard decision to make unless Mac ported their OS for PC, but that will not happen due to an agreement between Mac and Microsoft after MS bailed Apple out a while ago.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

Let me guess,
You guys have a design studio.
Or else why bothering with computers that are more expensive and don't give you the bang for the money?

I know more than one sound engineer in Hollywood who switched to Windows for stability when running software with multiple plugins... cubase, protools, etc.
I can totally understand using a Mac but only in very precise lines of work. Design/Mastering etc... but like i said, even in those departments, Macs are bug-ridden. And it's software inherent... not hardware. So both OSes have software conflicts. What i know for a fact is that a PC will always be cheaper to fix.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

you know what's really annoying? Apple could focus their ads to show how Macs are more comfortable to use, i'm talking UI, UX, where they have a clear advantage on Windows.
I don't know why everyone keeps focusing on crashes that don't really happen so much anymore.
Win7 still has major UI flaws, keeping old dialog boxes from Win95... MacOSX is the best UI ever, that's where the work goes at Apple really.
So where are their marketing gurus? on vacation enjoying some bonuses?
It's ridiculous.....

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

Hahaha, reading these comments crack me up. Both Mac and Windows have their issues; it all depends on the user's preference. Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Google does a good job and eventually launches laptops and desktops, as I'm not entirely happy with either OS.

Elizabeth K. The kind that turn into the sort of Mac users that always excuse any problems with Macs as reasonable but who pounce on the slightest problem with Windows. The fact is Snow Leopard still has a host of issues, many of which are quite serious. Since I installed Snow Leopard, I can't run a virus scan without freezing up my Mac. My bluetooth headset doesn't work anymore, and it messes up other audio functions as well. I'm one of the luckier Mac users as other Mac users are experiencing much more severe headaches. Now I don't see how 10.6.2 is going to fix all of the reported issues. And it hasn't even come out yet. So when Apple adds claim that Macs are trouble free, they are being pompous and clearly preying on the gullible.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

As much as I hate to agree with stability, I switched to PC 5 years ago purely on the grounds of price per machine unit and haven't had any major problems using XP.

I have a dual boot XP & Vista Premium PC but use XP due to a number of issues I had with Vista, so I am tentatively looking to see what Windows 7 has to offer, but I do agree in part with the "get a mac" video that every new version of Windows has been touted as "the be all and end all of Windows without any of the problems of the previous version".

MAC OS X in all it's incarnations have been remarkably stable for many years and this current SNOW Leopard, is a MINOR update to LEOPARD, and all new versions of XP are new innovations and additions to an otherwise stable product which saw the user upgrading a familiar environment with an equally familiar environment with loads of new bells and whistles. XP to VISTA was a complete rethink of how you use your PC and in many cases a huge investment in upgrading memory, processors and graphics cards in order to get some of the functionality out of VISTA. When OS-X 10 came out it was running on a G3, they then brought out G4's etc. and now we have the INTEL machines, yet OS-X 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 (as far as I got upgrading) have all happily installed and run fine on both G3 and G4's without any upgrades.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

I can't agree you more
windows 7 is a new system
i think i prefer it

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

It can't really go to far if it's true. I wouldn't call that a minor problem.

I personally think they've gone a little too far with this one, but then I'm one of those people who don't see the need for all this rivalry between OS'. I actually use three different OS' - Mac for my laptop, Windows 7 on my desktop (Wasn't too painful to upgrade from XP - you just need to be somewhat organised with your backups) and Linux on my server. All three OS' are good in certain environments, and crap in others. There really doesn't need to be so much animosity between them - all apple is doing is stirring up trouble.
There are *far* better ways to advertise and increase your userbase without outwardly attacking, and potentially alienating their competitors.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

I think Apple is going too far here. I have two PC's with Windows, one with XP and Vista, and I'll be getting W7 for my Mac with VMWare Fusion 3 once that comes out Oct. 27. Yea sure Windows is good, it's the OS I use for my gaming, but it is so much easier to have problems with Windows than it is a Mac. For Windows it's as easy as clicking a button to get bugs, viruses, malware, and etc.. While the Mac OS with a security built in from the beginning while Windows OS had security built in after the OS was formed.

Re: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

Mac: I'm a Mac
PC: and I'm a PC
PC: Windows 7 just came out.
