Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Apple Fires Back at Windows 7 in New Ads

They seem to forget that Snow Leopard had some major problems. #fail!
  • Cj_Taylor · 1 month ago
Yes Snow leopard has had some problems but I would rather take the very few problems that Apple has had with its OS over the innumerable amounts of problems Windows has had. So I'd say that Windows has had many more #fail moments than Mac OS. The few over the the many. What's your choice?

7 years of WinXP SP2... not one single crash or problem or reinstall. 1GB of RAM. Same PC running AMD as back then. 5 years of WinXP home on DELL laptop, not one single crash or reinstall...never had to add memory to it. I can testify that the only crashes i had to deal with as part of my job was related to faulty hardware (much easier to replace on PCs btw)
You're talking out of your ...
  • BH Media Marty · 1 month ago
As much as I hate to agree with stability, I switched to PC 5 years ago purely on the grounds of price per machine unit and haven't had any major problems using XP.

I have a dual boot XP & Vista Premium PC but use XP due to a number of issues I had with Vista, so I am tentatively looking to see what Windows 7 has to offer, but I do agree in part with the "get a mac" video that every new version of Windows has been touted as "the be all and end all of Windows without any of the problems of the previous version".

MAC OS X in all it's incarnations have been remarkably stable for many years and this current SNOW Leopard, is a MINOR update to LEOPARD, and all new versions of XP are new innovations and additions to an otherwise stable product which saw the user upgrading a familiar environment with an equally familiar environment with loads of new bells and whistles. XP to VISTA was a complete rethink of how you use your PC and in many cases a huge investment in upgrading memory, processors and graphics cards in order to get some of the functionality out of VISTA. When OS-X 10 came out it was running on a G3, they then brought out G4's etc. and now we have the INTEL machines, yet OS-X 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 (as far as I got upgrading) have all happily installed and run fine on both G3 and G4's without any upgrades.
  • andrewjtalcott · 1 month ago
totally agree with jonton, I'm not saying that PCs are better because that whole argument is stupid, but I have never had major issues with my PCs.
  • Cj_Taylor · 1 month ago
I'm not saying that PC's are the worst things ever. I have two PC's with Windows, one with XP and Vista, and I'll be getting W7 for my Mac with VMWare Fusion 3 once that comes out Oct. 27. Yea sure Windows is good, it's the OS I use for my gaming, but it is so much easier to have problems with Windows than it is a Mac. For Windows it's as easy as clicking a button to get bugs, viruses, malware, and etc.. While the Mac OS with a security built in from the beginning while Windows OS had security built in after the OS was formed.
  • Dave · 1 month ago
Someone seems to have forgotten that Snow Leopard had that problem where if you swtich from your user account to a guest account, then back to that user account, it resets the user account, losing all your files. I wouldn't call that a minor problem.

I personally think they've gone a little too far with this one, but then I'm one of those people who don't see the need for all this rivalry between OS'. I actually use three different OS' - Mac for my laptop, Windows 7 on my desktop (Wasn't too painful to upgrade from XP - you just need to be somewhat organised with your backups) and Linux on my server. All three OS' are good in certain environments, and crap in others. There really doesn't need to be so much animosity between them - all apple is doing is stirring up trouble.
There are *far* better ways to advertise and increase your userbase without outwardly attacking, and potentially alienating their competitors.
  • jonton26 · 1 month ago
you know what's really annoying? Apple could focus their ads to show how Macs are more comfortable to use, i'm talking UI, UX, where they have a clear advantage on Windows.
I don't know why everyone keeps focusing on crashes that don't really happen so much anymore.
Win7 still has major UI flaws, keeping old dialog boxes from Win95... MacOSX is the best UI ever, that's where the work goes at Apple really.
So where are their marketing gurus? on vacation enjoying some bonuses?
    It's ridiculous.....

Come on, of course everyone should have a Mac.

    1. They're easy to use - once you've learnt.
    2. They're cheaper - than machines which are more expensive...like other Macs
    3. You can put in any hardware you like when a bit breaks - as long as it's approved by Apple.
    4. You can synch your iPhone to it...as long as you didn't jail break it and then you could be responsible for crashing mobile (cell) phone towers.
    5. You can download iTunes on it and then play them on any machine you like...as long as Apple approve and it's within the 3 item limit.
    6. You can use it to buy more iTunes and then burn them to a disk to listen anywhere you like, anytime you like on any device you like...can't you?
    7. You can wack out the battery in your laptop and repla...oh, sorry, no.

Hmmm...think I should have another think about this.

I began doing desktop publishing on Windows 3.1 because our IT guy wouldn't let us get a Mac. Back then, the Mac ran circles around us. For years I listened to my contemporaries on their Macs tell me I needed a Mac. They're so easy. They always work. They're so much better. So I finally found a way to get one, and I went top of the line. It came with zero documentation or instruction. It was confusing, hard to work with and not worth the trouble. That was probably 8-10 years ago, so I'm sure it's a different story today. But the fanboy claims back then were no different than they are today. The only difference is that I can do absolutely anything (in the publishing/design realm) on my PC that others do on their Macs. If I was into video, that would be another story.
  • Chuck · 1 month ago
"If I was into video, that would be another story." Why? Because Final Cut Pro can't run in Windows? Adobe Premiere is just as good or better at everything Final Cut Pro can do. I don't get the FCP bias that exists in the video/design world. Adobe has just as good of a program and it works a lot better with After Effects and Photoshop.
  • LorenaBlog · 1 month ago
If mac is so good they wouldn't need to pick on Windows... they should focus on their product and stop being a hater... I don't like a hater company! These ads are getting a bit annoying... come on, come up with something new.. they're funny but don't work. =)

I disagree with your premise, Popularity is not implicitly linked with quality. Take one of the largest fast food chains globally, McDonalds, you could hardly call it the height of cuisine just because so many millions cram it down their gullet.

  • Dror Zaifman · 1 month ago
Instead of worrying about Microsoft, what Apple need to do is focus more on how they service their customers.

Apple tried to buy you with their service policies and how great they are but when it comes to the real issues I found that they don’t really care about the customer when it comes to servicing them.

Plus they never engage customers in social media when they have issues or concerns.

Apple should focus more on their customers to make sure they come back rather then worry about Microsoft.

Too bad Apple still sucks. Apple = fail. Apple is the ultimate epitome of smugness both on the Internet and real life. I have met Apple users in real life who were sipping coffee while doing sudoku puzzles while typing up a text on their iPhone whilst eating healthy and they just looked down on me because I was doing something generically untrendy. Screw them, I can't stand them. Thanks for reading.
  • ringo walton · 1 month ago
well screw you too!!!! you're like that child in school that always sat in a corner and talked to himself and flipped out when people talked to you...you think people are looking at you because you're paranoid and you might not be taking care of yourself like you should. I'm just like those people you described. I eat healthy, exercise, and I meditate everyday. Am I a bad guy because I know what's good for me? NO!!! At least I dont slouch around on the couch all day looking like the Goodyear blimp came into town. Geez...If you dont want people looking at you funny, don't give anyone the reason to.

think different? I am a designer. I PREFER a pc. why? 1 key to take a screen shot. Apple? 4 keys!! How about the fact that I can't turn off the rotate/scroll feature on the apple touch pad if i don't want it? I can turn those things off on my Dell. what about alt tabing through apps? windows i can alt tab though everything open. Apple? I can ONLY alt tab through the apps, but NOT all the open docs, or browser windows. So what if the operating system isn't as pretty. I really don't care. I prefer functionality over form. I think the PC is far more efficient. Then there is the rediculously sharp 90 degree edges on the Mac Book Pro "precision aluminum unibody enclosure" try resting you hands against that for 8+ hours a day. think anatomical? NOT. think comfort? NOT. and don't get me going about how often my photoshop crashes on my Mac...
  • couchsurfingori · 1 month ago
I do like the different hair-dos and outfits! Pretty lame that Mac didn't actually try to talk about any of its features, just to make a point that Windows has released many versions in the past, and not all of them are perfect at first. Who cares??? Mac's products have been a lot less "perfect" in the last few years as well. I think they would have had more credibility if they actually mentioned ANY features that don't work on W7.

I still find these ads to be lame. A PC can do so much more than a mac, and yet they still try to portray it as IBM (Business Machines) - you can get them more stylish, with more fancy lights and features, and at a better cost. Slow Leopard has some major problems. So far I hear most W7 users are pretty thrilled.
  • Josh Gunderson · 1 month ago
If anything these ads tell me that Apple is nervous about Win7. These don't seem funny or clever to me, let alone effective.
  • BFAChris · 1 month ago
It's obvious that Apple is worried and is thus trying to turn up the heat. Unfortunately they're doing it with a 3 year old commercial.

You can trust me, I've been using the RC version of windows 7 since the beta, and the beta since the release. It is pure awesome. If awesome were an OS, it would be Windows 7.

Lame advertising and sad old-fashioned typecasting. Didn't expect such stale and dumb advertising from Apple, guess both companies don't know how to treat a large advertising budget and create something worthwile. Disappointed....
  • fattony69 · 1 month ago
Mashable, there is another ad if you can find it with PC as a news reporter reporting in on Windows 7 going live and there is tons of people purchasing Mac because they say if they are going to move all their files, they might as well move it to mac. That one hits Microsoft even harder.
  • Ryan Lalonde · 1 month ago
I just upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate and I didn't lose any files or programs at all. You don't need to lose everything if you just do an upgrade and not a reinstall.
  • Jensen_G · 1 month ago
If you upgrade from Windows XP, you must do a clean install.
  • SyunFung · 1 month ago
However, if you use the "Easy Transfer Wizard" that is located in "\support\migwiz" on the Windows 7 DVD and have a spare hard drive, it will export everything onto the spare, so that when you utilise a "Clean Install", you can simply restore your data (including program preferences) from that spare hard drive. You will have to install the programs again first, however, but it's not really an issue if you wanted to use a clean install to begin with.

These ads are almost always effective. How could Apple go "too far"? There is no political correctness necessary here. Just the truth.

Hey its business and in advertising you downplay the competition to make you cut and i think that apple has made a great shot with this one
  • jonton26 · 1 month ago
These ads are a blatant distortion of every day reality. But how would you tell?
Millions of offices are running Windows systems around the world on a daily basis to run their businesses... funny how theyre not all complaining like Mac users... If Macs were so much better than why are they not used AT ALL in business environments where reliability and quality are top benchmarks?
Some people are trying to make us believe that 98% of computer users are either wrong or lying.
I say it again... cowboys vs indians... black vs white ... dems vs Republicans...
same old US simplistic dichotomies the rest of world is done caring for....
  • orangermac · 1 month ago
In business you don't get to choose what you want to the same degree a home user can. There are some conspiracy theories also that IT shops like PCs because of job security. Where I work, we have both Macs and PCs but 9 out of 10 times the problems we have to fix are because of Windows (and we have less PCs than Macs, by the way).
  • jonton26 · 1 month ago
    Let me guess,
You guys have a design studio.
Or else why bothering with computers that are more expensive and don't give you the bang for the money?

I know more than one sound engineer in Hollywood who switched to Windows for stability when running software with multiple plugins... cubase, protools, etc.
I can totally understand using a Mac but only in very precise lines of work. Design/Mastering etc... but like i said, even in those departments, Macs are bug-ridden. And it's software inherent... not hardware. So both OSes have software conflicts. What i know for a fact is that a PC will always be cheaper to fix.

And thanks again Microsoft for the copy of Ultimate!
  • Adam · 1 month ago
It's abundantly clear that you have no idea what the term "pc" means. If you did, you wouldn't have posted something as nonsensical as "I am running a pc ON my mac." Further, PCs are perfectly capable of a dual boot. That's two strikes. Care to try for a third?
  • BFAChris · 1 month ago
Windows Guy, it's actually very easy to run OSX on a PC. Sure it's even easier to run Windows on a mac, because unlike Apple, Microsoft makes an operating system that can run on a wide variety of hardware and doesn't try to lock it down to their own stuff. But you can easily get a copy of OSX that has the checks removed and run it on certain PC hardware. Unfortunately they didn't take the time to make OSX as extensible as Windows so it's very finnicky about what it runs on.
  • Windows Guy · 1 month ago
Come on, Adam, you know better. I'm a PC guy through and through, but I don't mind acknowledging Mac's strengths. You know that when he said he runs pc on his mac that he was really saying he can run Windows on his Mac. And I challenge you to run Mac's latest OS on your PC. If you want to argue, pick a real fight. Ask why should I want to run Apple's OS on my PC. Ask why "Name" needs to run Windows. As it is, you just made yourself and your cause look dumb.
  • rawd808 · 1 month ago
the reason my PC can't run mac is because mac locks down it's software so much. why would you want to run windows on a mac if mac does "everything and more"?
  • jonton26 · 1 month ago
    Yes they do.
1 piece of hardware can be running two different OSes no matter.
Its not really dependent on the OS, but on the hardware letting you multiboot. Now if you're talking about software based OS virtualization then you can forget me, that is not running an OS proper...and you will find limitations sooner or later.

Windows 7 was released on Oct 22 this year.... give it time for people to use it and you will hear the people with different preferences complaining... I have a Mac desktop and a PC laptop....... either or is fine with me..... but i am waiting for my windows & upgrade then i will give an opinion on it.
  • Pietert · 1 month ago
The final version released Oct 22 has been in beta (and widely used) for almost a year now. Small changes made in excluding some gadgets and the update procedure is all that have changed since then. So it's been weighed and proven good by a lot of users.
Ofcourse these are not your mom and pop cornershop users but it's been a revelation to see Windows 7 work like it does in comparison to the utter crap that was Vista.
Nobody is holding their breath though, anyone who knows Microsoft knows that the sales of new computers and laptops boost their sales. Windows 7 is not expected to boost sales significantly as was expected of previous releases of a new Windows OS. The market has changed, Microsoft stock price will pay for the old-fashioned expectations on sales, users however profit with a decent new OS since the shame that was Vista...
  • CanCan · 1 month ago
That's because it came out today, lol.
  • BFAChris · 1 month ago
Yeah, and there have been betas and release previews out for around a year, and the beta version of Windows 7 works better than the full release of Snow Leopard. Go figure.

I don't quite see what's wrong with the ad, ads are ads. Unless it's an ad trying to get people to commit hate crimes or abuse people, I could care less. As far as my opinion goes, Microsoft has really tried to ensure that migration is easy and the bugs (if any) are far and few. For starters, Win7 is written on the same kernel as Vista, so all of the drivers shouldn't have any problems switching over to a new OS. That was really the initial big problem that steered people away I think when Vista came out, because of the kernel change of going from 5.xx to 6.xx messed with a lot of programs created for the 5.xx kernel. Heck Win7 even has a mode to allow for compatibility for programs designed to run on XP, which I know has been a big driving point for a lot of business in Japan still running XP. All in all, it's certainly worth it. Especially since I only had to pay $30 for Professional since I'm a student!

Windows 7 market-share will out-do any other Operating System bought by consumers so far, so not sure what their trying to say. That Windows7 users are goofy business users and some how Windows7 is unstable?? With Microsoft pushing-out so many innovative projects what exactly is Apple providing it's users? Shiny gadgets that require warranty.. Yay!

Coke & Pepsi are still on it? Coke and Pepsi don't do ads like these. Do you remember the Pepsi taste test from the 70s? I do, but their ads have changed since then. Adam was saying that a joke isn't as funny the 1000th time around, and he believes Apple has exhausted this one. Eventually Apple needs to follow Coke and Pepsi's examples of continuing to explore new ad campaigns. That's what successful marketing is.

As factual as it is (I'm running Win7, and yes, PC was lying there), there was a shark jumped somewhere along the line by the Mac guy. This essentially gives the die-hard Mac fans something to laugh about while everybody else either cheers for Windows 7 or ignores the whole mess. Nobody's getting won over by these commercials this week.

Give it a week or two, the glow of 7 will fade, and maybe Mac guy can convince a few more to switch.

I will say, despite not fixing "all" the problems of Vista, 7 has fixed some major ones. Introduced new ones, though.

I've found absolutely no problem with Windows 7. I've wanted to switch to a Mac for years, but just can't afford it. It's not because of a bad job, it's because of the damn recession and I need to feed my kids. I honestly have p.rayed to God for a Macbook. All Apple seems to be doing is lowering the prices another $200. That doesn't change the fact that it's still too expensive. I can't afford a $999 computer. I got a cheap Toshiba laptop for $299. Apple needs to lower their prices even more. Hell, the college students only get $50 off Apple products. That's why no one in college you see will have a Macbook or Macbook Pro except a few people. The most I can do is buy a Powerbook G4 or Ibook G4 and enjoy that I at least have some macintosh computer, and those are still expensive online!

I don't think this ad is aggressive on Apple's side. I think these commercials are pretty much in line with their other series. Everything was efficient on Mac's end, from timing, consistency, humor, entertainment, and how they used certain facts. For example, Apple never out right says that Windows is full of broken promises, but laying it out for the consumers that we have heard all of this before from Window's end.
Brilliant as always Apple...(as I type from my MAC)

i dont think apple went far at all with this ad. They simply stating the truth. PC keeps making promises its going to be better than a mac, but the reality is that every time it updates its OS its 1 step behind apple.

A nice jab coming from apple indeed. At this moment we only hear "positive" reviews about Windows 7. This 2 are different beasts and you have to try both in order to gain a good insight which one is better.
Windows 7 is rocking the boat but Apple is doing its best to "turn it over". Know some good points about Windows 7 at Windows 7 and why should you get it?
  • Deborah · 1 month ago
Telling the truth is never going too far. And to those of you who keep saying "this is too far" why don't you buy a Mac next time and see the difference for yourself. Honestly, if Macs weren't so expensive, everyone would have one. Which would defeat the purpose I suppose, because spammers/hackers/viruses would all target Macs instead.

Jay Paulus, director of Windows Client Product Management, is quoted in an article by Ryan Kim on SFGate.com as saying that Apple will try to “convince people that Windows 7 is just more Vista”.

Wrong. What Apple will do, and all they need to do, is remind people that Windows 7 is still Windows.

funny that, i'm actually getting rid of my mac after two and a half years because i find it immensely frustrating that when something does go wrong on a mac there is no way to find out what happened myself and if something breaks (like my charger) it costs way too much money to have it fixed or replaced (a new charger costs 89 euros, the cable to connect my mac to my tv cost me 39 euros and if i'd gotten a new macbook i would've had to have gotten a new tv cable because they changed the plug for it), any of this will cost you about a third for a pc). my new pc has better specs than a macbook pro and is running at about 500 euros cheaper. that's a lot of money, that could buy me a second laptop or a netbook or two.

i haven't actually worked with vista and will be switching to windows 7 straight away but i've never had any problems with windows before. i only went for a mac last tim cause it was prettier. i feel like mac users suffer from battered wives syndrome, any time mac screws you over you tell everyone he's really good looking and didn't mean to.

everyone knows windows is evil but for me mac is pretty much the same. hence my switch to cheaper. especially since everyone else has stepped up their design game in the past few years.

I've been using Apple products since i was 5 years old, and now I'm 29 now. The first Apple Macintosh actually came out on my birthday. I see nothing wrong with Apple. YES..I've used Windows before, and after seeing alot of my friend's computers crash and burn from Malware and Viruses on those machines, I always told them to get a mac. Some of them did, and they still tell me its the best thing they've ever bought. I got my gf to buy a Macbook a few months ago, and i got her Snow Leopard the day it was released. She has used it flawlessly ever since. I think this entire "Crash, Erase, Fail Fail Fail" BS was started by some of you WinLOss Fanboys because you know that Mac OSX is way more stable than anything Microturd has ever put out. Heck, I once used Microskank Office for mac, and It totally sucks, so i switched to OpenOffice. I won't ever touch anything Microfart makes. And to be honest, Apple likes having new customers, but they have such a loyal following of people who have been using their products for years and years that they don't have to totally worry about having new customers every month. These loyal customers will buy anything and everything Mac!!! So you can go back to your house out in the Sticks(Out in the woods where all the Hillbillies live), and go fiddle with your cheap, piece of crap $300 netbooks and your second rate OS you like to call Winblows 7.858674536564656 or whatever its called and leave this discussion to people who know better :P

    Peace!!!

Too bad for Apple that VISTA's issues had NOTHING (at all) to do with the actual software and had EVERYTHING to do with the lack of processing power to run it (substandard chips on new machines, people trying to upgrade without enough horsepower, etc.). Windows 7 will NOT have these issues because every machine it's being sold on can handle it. And this time, Microsoft's not gonna let you upgrade if you can't handle it. Apple: "waaaaaaaaa less than 7% of the population uses my operating system waaaaaaaaa" - LOL!!! (that's a very kind estimate, BTW - most have them in the 5-6% range, actually)
  • marty · 1 month ago
One other important Vista problem was the lack of working drivers for everyone's peripherals. When XP took over, I saw scanners showing up at garage sales in droves because the scanner makers wouldn't put out new drivers for them, but most other equipment worked. Vista, however, had driver problems with everything for the first 9 months or so. I don't know if that's going to be a problem with 7.

Freaking hilarious, I think if Mac would just come down a little on price they might actually fair stronger against PCs. I know the Mac laptops are more stable for Serato scratch software than the PCS are. I used to only use MAC for designs way back in the 90's hated the PC lab at school but after getting into the workforce and finding only PC's in most workplaces I grew accustomed to PCs and my One concern Adobe software had finally created better versions for PC that rivaled the ones they originally released for macintosh. Once that happened to me the difference between Mac and PC was negligable. I personally preffer price and comparable features as the deciding factors in purchases. I've seen Macs crash in the school labs just as I have seen PCs crash. Both are ugly sites to see. These Days I run all PCs but I do plan on eventually getting a macbook notebookbecause my HP laptop is a sweet and fast little monster but it doesn't deal well with the Rane SL57 Mixer and crashes to blue screen ocassionally if I don't use a seperate serato box instead. Not something I can afford to happen during a live show so for now I use the box instead of the mixer. I have a fairly new studio XPS from Dell with the I7 pentium chip fast little bugger but I have been riddled with a few problems here and there. For one I can't load Itunes onto it for my life. It keeps trying to find a file that doesn't exist, sometimes wonder if mac does this on purpous. It's hard to tell what system is really beter without purchasing both computers and testing them for a year side by side. All I know is Mac might have more people switch if there weren't cross compatability problems with programs. I have already purchased the entiire Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium versionat a heafty 1200+ dollars and am not about to repurchase that again for a different platform. I still find the comercials hilarious especially when I think back to the release of windows 95... WHOOOw it was suopposed to be a big deal and all I kept thinking is, so windows is finally going to be more MAC-LIKE LOL but I guess it did make PCs a ton more user friendly cause before that they were actually quite horendous when it came to usability.

People posting about how Macs are "less trouble" than WinXP are obviously not talking from a point of neutrality. As a systems tech, ive had more people coming to me with OSX woes than WinXP - to either reinstall the OS, or add more RAM to their system. At home, i would rather own a WinXP for my family / home use than a Mac OSX anytime, simply for practicality, downloads of tools for fun or productivity...
It's funny how the majority of people on earth own WinXP, and are not complaining about it, or at least not as much as people who've NEVER used Windows!!!

Last thing of importance... Apple is being sued by Nokia over Copyright Infringement. Read about it... you'll see how EVERY mobile phone manufacturer paid Nokia hefty sums to use patented technology, except for Apple who simply use that technology without paying a dime to the engineers who've created it. You can expect Apple to lose big on this one, and we are talking blatant cheating of business rules... of course noone at Apple is available for comments.

So how long will we have to portray Apple as the good guy and MS as the bad guy? This is nothing more than hollywoodish Cowboy vs Indian caricature that will simply not last and which shows once again that americans are easy to manipulate.

Anyone able to answer for me if it's still not legal and still unsupported to build my own PC and install x86 Mac OS X on it? If so, Apple can shove its ads up its ass. I'd consider trying their OS against Windows 7 if they didn't do their best to try to lock me into their hardware and all the other constraints. I'm glad Microsoft has competition but just shake my head almost every time I see Apple come out with something new and then learning how it will actually work.

I don't have a Mac, or an iPhone, or an iPod. I'm one of those crazy people who prefers functionality over glossy aluminum (or whatever). The only exciting thing apple has come out with in the past number of years is this Mighty Mouse, I admit, which I assume is/will only be Mac only, so I'll have to wait for hackers to make it work on PCs then maybe give it a try.

It took Apple long enough to realize it needed to add x86 support and I assume it'll take just as long to realize it needs to open the OS to non Macs. If it did it tomorrow though, I'd consider going out and giving Leopard a try, no problem. Till then, Apple knows where to put it.

Here's where I'd wish Apple luck on the ads, but then I think... does anyone really want a world where Mac dominates and everyone is locked into their shit (more constrained than even just Microsoft's software EULA)? No thanks. Again, I like competition, but not competition for the worse.

Windoze and Windoze 7 IT people love the flaws of Windoz for one very special reason; job security. All that BS about businesses use it, and it's so great and all, is little more than a cover for the fact that if the Boss bought a Mac, the number of ways he would need an IT staff goes does dramatically. (Have you noticed how they've dropped the "dows" in Win 7. Trying to shake the "doze" complex, I guess. Do yourself a favor, Get A Mac. Just don't tell your IT people. They just go into a panic when they think about having one less computer in the office they'll have to actually touch.

Same Apple bull****, different day. How about you focus on making a decent operating system, and spend a little less time with these pointless ads. It's pretty pathetic when you continue to make advertisement after advertisement trashing the competition (mostly with lies I might add) without actually telling consumers WHY they should buy your overpriced computers instead. Grow up. Get over yourself, and how about you spend some of that money on R&D instead.

As a Mac Owner (I had to purchase one to develop iPhone Apps) these ads really make me hate Apple. Because almost everything they criticize Windows for Macs are guilty of as well. Snow Leopard broke several vital apps that I use including my FTP program. My Firefox browser crashes EVERY freaking day, OSX has the annoying security prompts whenever I download and open an application from the internet. My Mac has frozen on me several times. Snow Leopard is a "useless" "upgrade" - nothing more than a glorified patch. I haven't had nearly as many issues with my Win Vista machine.

The danger Apple runs into is they distort everything so much that I'm ready to dump my Macbook and go back to Windows. They are also setting the expectation that their S don't stink and they have a perfect, flawless machine which JUST ISN'T TRUE!! Just installed Win 7 last night and it seems fine - other than it took 7 freaking hours to install.

Windows needs to respond with a hidden camera style camera where they go into a Apple store and show the dozens of desperate people that are always standing around The Genius Bar clutching their broken MacBooks waiting and waiting and waiting and they show someone trying to make an appointment only to be told the next available time is a week from Thursday. I've never understood how it is that Apple continues to claim to be so trouble free when they break as much as the next piece of equipment and it's harder to get them fixed.

These ads serve more to make the apple faithful happy than they do to convince anyone to switch to a mac. When they first came out they were fantastic, but now they're just lame pot shots.

At my current company I switched to a mac when given the choice last year in an effort to learn the platform. I also updated my home laptop to windows 7 at the same time. My mac has had considerably more problems than my windows 7 laptop, and I see the office macs have just as many problems as any pc supposedly does.

Infact I wonder why would I go for windows 7 if my windows is running very smooth and perfect!.

As someone who was excited about new Windows operating systems and then being AMAZINGLY disappointed after each new release because of every bug, I find this commercial to be hilarious! Haven't tried Windows 7, but I was burned with initial releases of Windows 95, Windows ME, Windows XP and Windows Vista. I actually went and bought a Macbook Pro and I'm much happier.

And complaints about Snow Leopard? Wow. One release that wasn't perfect. Microsoft Windows wishes they could boast the same.

I love my Mac(s) and will never go back - but I hate this kind of advertising.

If something is THAT good, it shouldn't HAVE to talk down about the competition. It should just stand on its own merit. You never hear McDonalds talk down about BK - and if they started to, it'd come off pretty weak.

These ads have always bothered me. The music, the pretend friendship (how these two haven't beaten each other to a pulp is beyond me) - it's stupid. I much prefer the ads where Macs show their process. The care and attention to detail. The fact that the software and the hardware were literally MADE for one another. There's also the fact that no one ever switches from Mac to PC!

This passive-aggressive smear campaign is childish and trashy.

Mashable, seriously, "are the ads effective or have they gone too far" are not a complete set of choices. "Are the ads effective" is a yes/no question, and "have they gone too far" is a yes/no question, but they are not 1:1 corelated. I would say the ads are effective, yes, and have they gone too far, no. So does that make me a fanboy of one side or the other?

I hate internet "journalism". One day we'll be fed tweets and blogs and no one will even be able to spell the name of the president.

Out of them all 'Broken Promises' is nicely scripted and true to the campaign. The strength to the previous ads was that you didn't have to say too much for PC (Microsoft) to hang itself on it's own inadequacies. The other new ads seem to be trying to hard. Cheesy acting spewing No.1 for this and No.1 for that is something I would see Microsoft doing.

I'm sure the ads work on some people. The kind that turn into the sort of Mac users that always excuse any problems with Macs as reasonable but who pounce on the slightest problem with Windows. The fact is Snow Leopard still has a host of issues, many of which are quite serious. Since I installed Snow Leopard, I can't run a virus scan without freezing up my Mac. My bluetooth headset doesn't work anymore, and it messes up other audio functions as well. I'm one of the luckier Mac users as other Mac users are experiencing much more severe headaches. Now I don't see how 10.6.2 is going to fix all of the reported issues. And it hasn't even come out yet. So when Apple adds claim that Macs are trouble free, they are being pompous and clearly preying on the gullible.

WOW thanks for my morning laugh.
We own both Macs and PCs. I have built all our PCs in order not to have them crash all the time unless the OS it self decides to fail which occasionally it will. Price wise if you build a good PC the price is not that much less then a lower end MAC.

WE bought Macs due to us doing a lot of design work that windows is just a PITA to work with. Our Macs do run windows also for some applications I need mostly industry software Mac does not have. We have our PCs run Windows, Linux, and Solaris they all sever their purpose even Microsoft uses Linux servers.

My point is the each OS has its advantages and you should use the one that suites what you need to use best. Buying just for the sake of prices is just ridiculous, one would hope our clients choose us base on more then price.

If I was told I could only buy one type of computer it would be a hard decision to make unless Mac ported their OS for PC, but that will not happen due to an agreement between Mac and Microsoft after MS bailed Apple out a while ago.

Well, if you can't beat 'em, criticize!

All OS makers are living in glass houses, always. Hurling rocks is a bad idea. But then the Microsoft marketing team have made some absolutely laughable claims about IE8 recently, so they reap what they sow.

I'm a happy Linux user and my whole business runs Linux workstations. Sure, it's not perfect. Nothing is. But it works well and it costs me nothing.
