Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Apple Announces iTunes 9

  • Ohad Eder Pressman · 3 months ago
iTunes 9 doesn't seem to be available yet, at least to some of us. The official iTunes web-page sends you to download version 8 point something, and 'Software Update' on the Mac doesn't offer it either.

Hopefully its just a few minutes away

so basically iTunes 9 turns it into "iTunesStore that just happens to play music too" instead of "music player that just happens to have a store built-in"??
  • Chris · 3 months ago
How about allowing me to install on XP64 bit?
  • guestyguest · 3 months ago
Please remember that this is just a shopping tool and file manager, not a sports team. Keep your fanboydom in perspective. Apple and MSFT just want your money.

I don't know how you can call yourself an admin 'superadmin', what you are is a spammer. Nobody gives a shite about your website, and any professional site owner would not spam a totaly unrelated article. Anyway rant over.

More's to the point, I'm looking forward to itunes 9, I'm hoping for a better, faster sync too, I have over 11000 songs and it can take forever to do simple syncs. Also I'm hoping it has something which allows you to share your songs on facebook etc, simlar to lastfm, although this feature could be abused by the music police in tracking people listening to leaked music.

All in all I think Apple have done a great job bringing itunes to PC & other platforms as well as their own, ipod beats Microsoft's Zune hands down, simply because it is a worldwide product, and not just kept within the US. Microsoft cannot even compare themselves to apple when their competing products are kept locked away in one country, while Apple reaches out internationaly!

Really smart to single out MSFT considering that Apple went after Sony, Nintendo, and a lot of other companies in that comparison presentation. It's APPLE, not a sports team. Who cares.

Finally, a better way to manage our apps. Hopefully it will be available soon
  • gwoodard · 3 months ago
Will it have the badly needed "watched folders" feature like every other media player has? Doubt it, I dont know what Apple's problem is in this regard.
  • Eric · 3 months ago
What do you mean by "watched folders"? Are these file system directories, dynamic playlists or something else?

Would be cool if iTunes integrates with FlyBy Music http://www.flybymusic.com so you could sync your iPod from a web browser. That would b awesome!

Wow, nice way to post spam and not look like it.

    Nice try.

Their servers must be overloaded this is what I get when I try to download iTunes 9

"our apologies but there was an error with your session (perhaps you were away from your computer for a while). Click here to return to the download page."
  • Ed B. · 3 months ago
Took about 20 attempts but, it's finally downloading.

W00t ...It is about time. The proof is in the pudding. I'll take a bite to see if I like. The way to a geeks heart is through there apps.
  • Gabriel Hernandez · 3 months ago
Downloading now, at blazing 14.4 modem speeds. Their servers must be getting pounded.

Anyone able to figure out how to connect it to Twitter etc... yet?
  • Chris Knox · 3 months ago
Yeah...it's a little disappointing actually...it's only available through the iTunes store...if you click on an album for example, and then the little arrow next to the "Buy" button, you will see an option to share on Twitter or Facebook...it then opens a browser window and auto-populates the status update with a link to that page in the iTunes store....
  • Adam Teece · 3 months ago
Awesome, thanks for pointing it out. That really is very sad that that's all it is. You'd think they would want to make it so it can tweet what you are listening to with a link for people to buy it or something.
  • Chris Knox · 3 months ago
I agree...even though I am still a bit of an Apple fanboy, lately it seems as though Apple keeps trying hard to get things right, but seems to miss the mark every time...it's little things like that....plus no native to-do app in the iPhone (copy & paste took them how long?)....seemingly ignoring the app store in this iTunes makeover despite explosive growth to 1.8 BILLION app downloads in less than a year...flawless Microsoft Exchange integration in Mac Mail with Snow Leopard yet their own MobileMe needs some major upgrading and there is still no way to send and receive calendar invites in the iPhone without Exchange....it's these things that make me scratch my head sometimes and wonder "How could they possibly have gotten these things wrong???"
  • Project-Dragon · 3 months ago
    Me neither.

    Help would be appreciated.
  • Adam Teece · 3 months ago
Yeah I haven't been able to find anything about it at all other than on the new features page. Nothing in the help file or anywhere that I have been able to find yet.
  • Chris Knox · 3 months ago
Little disappointed with no wishlist integration in the app store...the improvements on the music, tv and movie end are incredible! But they seemed to completely ignore the app store, which needs some much needed improvements as well! Would love to be able to add apps to a wishlist and would love the same pop-up preview options available in the rest of the iTunes store for apps as well!
