User can access socialthing through where he is being looking at (by clicking the small icon at the bottom).

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

Personally, I think it's an idea that has traction, but then I would say that, since I proposed the exact same idea a while ago, only my idea had Facebook Connect front and centre, as well as a group chat feature.

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

@Matt Galligan

I took a quick look, but don't have a lot of time. Saw you checking this thread out and wanted to make a suggestion. I like the bar concept applied to bookmarking in the respect that I don't have to go to a site to see bookmarks. For collaborative bookmarks to really be of use, I would like a product like the following. Say I create a Socialthing group group that I consult for. We're able to use it to submit bookmarks of whatever type to the group stream right from the bar. I submit a link to the stream, add comments, tags as well as comment on others submitted by other members, all from my bar. I am a consultant for private non-profits and social service organizations and the bar thing would be really loads better for my clients who aren't always up to spec where the internet is concerned. This solution allows them to as an augmentation of their own address bar, see daily links, comment/chat without needing to visit pages at Sqworl or Delicious unless I nest them in the link. The entire group could collaborate even adding bookmarks and being able to copy bookmarks from the stream to an individual "puddle" for future quick reference. I think an option to leave it at the top of the browser window right under the address bar would be great too. If there is something out there like this already I'm not aware of it. I could see such a thing of great use to teachers and students and businesses.

From what I have read, your site attempts to tie everything together in this bar. Allowing people to go to my Socialthing page and "follow" my bookmarking right from their Socialthing browser bar would helps loads and stop me from having clients to sign up all over the web. Me as the primary linker being able to toggle between groups or even super groups right from the bar would be awesome. Even retaining moderating/administration rights over groups that I create or co-moderate. Thanks. If you guys want to get really funky add the ability for me to embed a voice annotation, video or even related links nested all to the bookmark and I'd probably never visit my twitter again other than to notify of an addition or modification to bar.

Hey all, sorry inundating you with my wish list. Don't know much about the service but am really hoping for a much less logins and puddle jumps for my clients. I don't mind having to do it, its what they pay me for, I just don't like them subjected to it.

Also waiting on an invite code.

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

From what you say this bar is far more usable than friendconnect's, I went to the site you mention and it also seems less intrusive. If this is like the bar you get in facebook I will definitely use it in my site. Thanks for letting us know.

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

I think it's an additional clutter.

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

Waiting for the Invite code.

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

That sounds great. I hope it lives up to its potential. So far, I've been decently impressed. I'm sure future improvements will only lead to bigger and better.

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

This sounds pretty cool..I'd defintely want to give it a looksee

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

Stan, great writeup.

This is Matt, one of the Founders of (the original) Socialthing. One thing to note is that while we currently only support installation via the "bar", that will be changing. Our plan is to be able to peel away any feature into its own distinct widget. Hope that helps!

Re: AOL’s Socialthing for Websites Ties it All Together

AOL seems to be launching a come-back. Wonder if it will work.

Doesn't this offer more functionality than Facebook Connect, syncing to Twitter, MySpace, etc? Granted, it might not get legs, but it seems like a better product than Facebook Connect.
