While there are certainly many apps out there that can potentially save lives, there can be many more. I believe that there will be many more also. Im sure there will be an app soon whereby you will be able to talk to a doctor at any time or place for advice on something you may be suffering from or you are witnessing someone else suffer from. We believe that there will have to be more focus on the use of crowd-sourcing. This is the future of medical applications. Imagine being linked to a a number of medics who will suggest to you remedies for certain ailments, rather than trusting just the one.d

Something to keep in mind, safety wise, is how many buttons a lot of apps make you push to find whatever info you need. For those of us who <ahem> use their phones while driving (we all know we shouldn't), one touch apps, like Coffee Spot (http://www.aclevertwist.com... can save lives by finding your info with only the press of one button!

Man, someone just needs to make an iPhone twitter app that twitters heart rate information to your cardiologist.

Or perhaps some super cool app that lets you watch all the poor bastards in Africa who can't afford iPhones, as they wander around without the purpose that this awesome gadget brings to all of our otherwise meaningless lives. Maybe you could, like, click on their faces to make a donation to some charity run by bono or sting.

I think Apple and Steve Jobs should be awarded a nobel prize for the iPhone! It's like the best invention ever! Without it I don't think I could be the yuppy douche that I am. Oh boy is my attention short though, has anyone seen the palm pre?

You may not as the paramedic look at the phone of an unconscious patient, but I know first hand the police officer that comes on site does. We had an office cold calling phone numbers on a cell phone last year trying to find a contact person. I am sure every situation is different.

I agree that most medics don't look for medical info on phones, but it's still new. Ever since learning about these apps I have been telling other medics to check for them. It will just take a little education. I also never used to check the fridge for a vial of life, but do now.

While some of these apps may have good info, I doubt they'll save a life. If you think you're going to read how to do CPR while someone in front of you is in cardiac arrest, think again.

Also, as a paramedic, I've never seen someone look at or for a phone on an unconscious patient. At that point we're too busy doing other things.

Finally Airstrip OB isn't going to help someone in cardiac arrest. It is used to monitor a baby that is still in the womb. The top strip is contractions and the bottom is the fetal heart rate. All that app is for is so a lazy OB can stay home until the last possible minute.
