One kind of social networking that isn't as easy to see, so maybe you missed it, is what's going on behind the corporate firewall. At Sabre, we launched our community, SabreTown, which got 65% adoption in three months (out of 9,000 employees worldwide), because it's easy-to-use, not corporate, and we never mentioned that it was social networking (which would have turned non-believers off). It has a lot of the usual stuff: blogs, profiles, flicker-type stuff, plus a question and answer capability.

It's tied together by a relevance engine that collects everything you write, post, enter into your profile, ask or answer, flicker about, etc., so when you do ask a question, it's sent to the 15 most relevant people who can answer your question. Results since August 07 launch: 6,000 questions asked; average question gets nine answers; average question gets first answer within an hour 45% of the time, within 24 hours 90% of the time; hundreds of thousands of dollars saved by cutting down on lost time looking for information, finding in-house language translators rather than hiring out-of-house, finding a 1,500 word acronym glossary someone had been fashioning for years; and a re-connected community after several years of globalizing the workforce.

Read more about it at cubeless.com, where we are selling this capability to other organizations.

Re: 35+ Examples of Corporate Social Media in Action

This is a lovely case of social media marketing from Belgium.
